PGT: Throwback Jerseys, Throwback D-Will
23 points (7-13/4-7/5-5), 8 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals. I haven't seen a Mavs PG with a stat line like that since Kidd.
Also, Deron is 35-35 from the FT line this season... Gonna need another squirrel.

Zaza with another double-double (15/12).

Can't overstate how much I love this team. The team effort on D and the boards. The no "star" approach to passing and playing unselfishly. Love it.

Man, even Dirk looks good on defense right now -- he had 3 blocks and a steal tonight.

Deron and Zaza were great. Can't say enough about Zaza. JJ looked more spry tonight.
Dirk a quietly effortless good game. Such an easy team to root for. Can't wait for the next game at OKC

I can't believe I'm excited about JaVale McGee, I can't wait to see what he brings to the team.

Me too man. Is he back Sunday?
All we need from him is 10-20 solid minutes a night, when he's back to good health.

Who cares about Javale McGee? ZaZa just dropped 15 and 12 on Godbert

Because a healthy focused McGee completes the puzzle. We have looked good but our only needs right now are a good rim defender and key players getting fully healthy.
Plus, Zaza will eventually need some rest...right now he is the most important player on the team.

I love how we are playing right now but I still have to wonder why Mejri is on the team. Rick said he is over playing Zaza so why not give our 7'1 29yo shotblocking 3rd stringer a look? I could understand if he was 22 but I think Rick should give him a look in stretches to see if he can at least spell Zaza a few minutes.
I thought last night would have been a good time to give him a look against Gobert...especially when we had a comfortable lead.

I can see where you can give JaVale 10 minutes a game - giving Zaza Dirk's treatment. Anything over that is going to be circumstantial. I don't want to see Powell getting under 20 minutes because this kid may have a nice future in Mavs' uniform.
Also, perhaps we should wait and see what JaVale is actually able to give before people get hyped over him. And I'm not talking about giving turnovers and Shaqtin'-A-Fool performances.

I think McGee is going to affect Dirk's minutes more than Zaza's or Powell's, since he would allow Powell to play more at the 4, giving Dirk much-needed rest as the season grinds on.

Zaza is such a smart center. The team is really intelligent... Could use a little more athleticism and perhaps a guard that could come off the bench and hit the three.

Dirks averaging 29 minutes a game. That might go down a minute or two, but no more than that.

I was thinking more of when Dirk takes entire games off than a per-game basis... And of course, McGee would also keep Zaza from logging really heavy minutes in those situations as well.

This!!!
I'd also add matchups and level of opponent. Dirk and Zaza don't always require heavy minutes but almost have to now due to limited available frontcourt players.
A useful rotation player at the 5 would help keep those two fresh for really tough matchups when we will need them the most.

I agree, but if Rick comes to trust McGee, then Dirk probably takes a couple more games off than he would otherwise.

3rd in west Dallas Mavericks with a record of 9 /4 only half a game behind spurs in 2 spot.
8 th in the west Los Angeles Clippers barely scraping .500 and Houston Rockets in tenth spot with the same record as Minnesota Timberwolves! hahahaha! life is great right now.

Last season, games 8 through 13... Had a 10-3 record at this point too (yeah, I was just a shocked when I looked it up - that's how much the Rondo trade killed this team!)
Still, the eye test tells me we're a better all-around squad because our defense was horrible last year, whereas we're pretty decent on that end of the floor this season.

About the game, I think that D-Will is used to now as he's able to find Dirk most of the time. If his health holds it together then he might actually return to his all-star caliber status IMO. I'm loving right now the close-out moments with Felton and D-Will connection.
Not sure what's going on with Barea though. Sloppy performances all around after his new contract. Hopefully he picks up eventually. Right now he seems the odd man out when it comes to trades.

I thought Barea played a pretty good game last night -- seems like he shook off the funk a bit, shot better than he has all year... Hope he's turning a corner.

I'd consider it more about winning more games when Dirk is off, than giving Dirk off more games (which would be good too).
I want to see Powell getting more minutes at the 4 (and in general). Dirk isn't the only person in the way of that. Right now, Powell plays a lot of five when Zaza is on the bench, McGee could help with that. Other times CharlieV/Evans are taking up time at the 4. I wouldn't mind CharlieV's minutes going down.
Hopefully McGee can be what the Mavs need in terms of shot blocking/athleticism. If so, he'll be a weapon different than what we currently have that could save us some games.
Though, it's obviously a wait and see on whether this guy is has it in him to be a difference maker, or if he'll just be a bonehead.

I think he can too..DWill's issues were part injury and a big part mental. Not necessarily mental pressure like a lot of folks say because of the spotlight that was on him. I think it is moreso about enjoying the game of basketball and who he is playing with. In DWill's pre/post game interviews, he has mentioned how much more fun he has been having with this squad. If this keeps up, and they all continue to build positive chemistry on a personal and game level, I think it will be what unleashes DWill's ol' killer instinct/confidence/aggressiveness.

I think JJ is a bit lost right now and trying to find his new role. My guess is that Felton is better at JJ's old role than JJ right now so JJ will need to find his niche on this team.
He probably is the odd man out but other than maybe Miami I don't see much trade value in him if any.
Barea and Felton have basically switched roles from last season.
Personally I think Felton will evolve more into a JET role as things settle and Barea will become more situational.

Yeah Felton has been a surpringly pesky defender too, gives him the edge over JJ. Not that hes a world beater but he's been decent. JJs defense, for a few of these games, hit a new low. Guys going by him at will but he seems to have stabilized some on that end too.
JJ is still a valuable player and will have his moments for this team. He'll turn it around. He was good last night. Aggressive but not forcing things- except a shot or two and that terrible bounce pass on the break. RC promptly replaced him with Felton immediately after

The way I see it in comparison to 2011:
DWill - JKidd (Floor General)
Felton - JET (Mr. Clutch off bench)
Barea - Barea (Spark Plug)
Matthews - Stevenson (on Steroids)
Harris - A bonus

Agree. We need Powell to spend time at 4 to limit Dirks minutes. It's good to have a young guy with Powell's skills to back up Dirk.
