Mavs make a move on trade day: Stackhouse Activated
http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archi...mavericks.html
February 19, 2009
Big news out of the Mavericks

Eddie Sefko E-mail News tips
No, it's not a trade, but there appears to be a decent chance Jerry Stackhouse will be active for Friday's game in Houston.
President Donnie Nelson said during his post-trade-deadline press briefing that Stackhouse would "be back tomorrow, which will be real important for us.''
That doesn't necessarily mean Stackhouse is ready to play. But if he's active, I'm guessing he'll get a few minutes against the Rockets.
He's definitely on the road trip. That much is certain.
Meanwhile, the trade deadline passed without the Mavericks making a deal. But it wasn't for lack of trying. Nelson said they were active with "lots and lots and lots'' of conversations up until the final minutes before the 2 p.m. deadline.
"We like our boys in blue,'' he said after all the talk produced no action.

in stack's defense, EVERYONE looked awful at the start of the year. Maybe he's got a little gas in the tank, but I was NOT expecting to see Stack play another game in a Mav's jersey.

Everyone knew that line was coming.
But hey, at least it's over.
I'm wondering what the future holds for this team. At the beginning of the season, I was pretty optimistic. After we saw that mess early on, I thought the team was done. Right now, I'm in the middle.
I really wanted to add a little more talent and scoring. It didn't have to be a homerun for me, but I thought adding a guy who can get you 10-15 points would make this team scary.
But guess what? We really might have gotten him. If he can stay healthy, which isn't a great proposition, I know, Jerry Stackhouse can help this team. He finished the season strong last year before getting banged up at just the wrong time. If he can come back and help, this team gets scarier...
Antoine Wright is starting to play a lot better too. That helps.
I still think the key is Josh. We may look back at Darrell Armstrong being the best addition of this season because of the apparent impact he's had on Josh.
So all is not lost. I don't think the Mavs should be favored to come out of the West or anything, but I don't think the Mavs have to be scared of anyone in the West either.

Josh and Antoin's play of late give me hope. There's no reason this team can't host a playoff series.

Well if he survived the deadline, we knew he's going to an active participant from here on out. Hopefully he brings something to the table.

I'm not overly optimistic, just because Stack was so not good for most of the start of the season, but hey, if he can get that corner three to round into form and give the team even 12 aggressive minutes off the bench per game, his return will be a welcome one.

You know what, I'm happy with the trade deadline. The mavs are 30-14 since abandoning the Princeton offense, and are playing better than they have all season. They have topped 110 points 5 times in the last 9 games after topping it 5 times in their first 44 (thanks Fish!)... and it's been almost 10 games since the last time we got blown out! We just need to hold down the fort while Jet is gone, and I think we'll be fine. Not elite, but good enough to be a top 5 team in the west.
I'm fine with the mavs standing pat, and having Stack as an asset that is worth even more in July (7.25 mil v. 7 mil now) and having a little more flexibility to swing a move possibly centered around Jason Kidd's expiring contract.

Less minutes for Green who should be playing and developing but is stuck on the end of the freeking bench.

Agree with this except for the Lakers. That is a team we shuld fear da funk outta. Everyone in the West should.
But oh well, as Dirk said, we'll go to war with what WE GOT.

There will be no moves around Jason Kidd's expiring contract, because it expires this year and the trade deadline has passed.
Question is, how much money does he want to stick around? I think 3 years for around the MLE is probably reasonable for both sides (not using the MLE, of course, because we have his Bird rights).

Agreed. The Lakers are clearly the class of the West. But I don't think the Mavs have any reason to fear them any more than a team like San Antonio ought to fear them.

Stack Attack from 35. Antonie "ShimmyShake" Walker hasn't got anything on the great Stack-Attack. Jerry will be back flying thru the air dunking on the Big Shaqtus and putting his Ron Artestest Defensive Skillz on Obie One Ka Kobe.

Sounds like someone realized the backlash he could expect if he said "we like our team"

Stack can produce a great volume of low-percentage shots...I don't expect much more than that though.

I'd rather try and give him a really rich one year deal. But he'll want 3. And i'll bet he asks for more than the mid-level range. I'd be surprised if we got him for less than 8.5 per. He was recently a superstar and these guys always think they're worth more than they are(see Gordon, Ben). Kidd's a shrewd operator. Can't wait for the "Kidd to the Lakers" rumors his agent spreads around to jack up his price. Shit, if we gave Diop the full mid-level. Kidd could be in line for 3 yrs. 36 mil. Our FO is a joke. Frat boy central.

I'd rather not see Stack out there. I think he hurts the team more then helps it.

Green can't get "less minutes" because of the return of Stack because he isn't getting any minutes...
Although...

Green, by the way, remains hopeful that he can still have an impact on the Mavericks this season. He recently worked out with coach Rick Carlisle and came away with some cautious optimism.
"He said to be ready, that he's going to call my number again,'' Green said. "I'm just waiting on that opportunity. I still have confidence in myself that I can do this. I'm not going to let any situation take my confidence away.''

hopeflully his legs are strong enough to keep goin to the basket and getting the fouls
his only play shld be to just go to the damn basket and get a damn foul ... no matter we are winnging or loosing the game
so playoff time we have stack to gather the fouls frmo the other team

A few things:
1. Let's hope Stack never sings at another Mavs game. He isn't good.
2. Stack is basketball satan.
3. I usually don't wish for an injury to any player, but I'm already hoping for a Stack blown ACL.
4. No funeral.
