Dallas Mavericks Award Watch
We have some candidates..
MVP (Dirk)
6th Man (JET)
COY (Carlsile)
One man who is not getting enough respect IMO is Marion for DPOY. If Artest gets any pub about it, so should Marion. The dude (and now along with Haywood) has flipped the table for us and solved our wingman defensive woes almost single-handedly.
Thoughts on odds of winning, probable finishes and what'll take to get for our guys to win their respective awards?

Ummm.. haven't we had an MVP, COY and 6th man in the past few years?
I think Dirk will get 3rd, Jet will get 2nd or 3rd, Rick might win it if we break off 15 games in a row. I don't think Marion has a chance just because his defense doesn't get any national, ESPN attention anymore. Dwight will probably get it again.

And unless Marion gets on some top blocks/steals videos, he won't even be considered.

JET is probably the only realistic candidate we've got.
Other than Dirk...and well...this is LBJ's world.

Lebron has MVP locked up, as he should. Dirk and Durant should come right after.
Jet has a shot for sixth man, if he can finish the year strong.

How many more 15/15/15 games do you think Kidd would need before he's a candidate for most improved player?

There's only one "award" I'm worried about and that'll happen after we get 16 victories after April 14th

Just my opinion, but I don't like the idea of giving an MVP award to someone whose team is outside the top four in the conference.

Good point, but some people didn't even have okc making the playoffs this year. KD has led a young team to a good record. Plus that 25+ point stretch was incredible.
But like I said, the MVP is Lebron.

i don't think they'll give 6th man to jet, just because he got it last year and they'll want to let someone new have it.

RC is not going to get any COY consideration.
Scott Brooks, Scott Skiles, Sloan. One of those three will win it.

I agree. JT would have to be playing head and shoulders above any other candidate to have a shot...
But if the Mavs keep rolling and JT is a huge part of it, don't overlook the chance that it could be a sexy choice.

Statistically I'd say Crawford deserves it. Odom deserves top 3 too.
Jet will probably end up 2nd in 6th Man.
Dirk should be 2nd-4th in MVP voting. Though I can see him ending up as low as 6th or 7th.

Ticky tack fouls protecting superstars changed this a lot. So did the introduction of Zone defense, which produces more long shots rather than having a player drive into the teeth of the defense.

no awards for any Mavs... and none deserving.
COY- Skiles
MVP- LeBron
6th MAn- Crawford or Odom
And IMO Westbrook is the MVP of the THUNDER. I know that sounds crazy. But I think Durant just puts up numbers. Everytime we've played them, or I've seen them on TV, Westbrook is that teams motor. I know he's the PG, but I think he's the heart too. I see Durant as a Melo, not a LeBron, Kobe, Wade... He's a scorer... the other guys bring that extra something.

I won't disagree that Westbrook is the motor, similar to how Kidd is the motor for our team. What could be comparable is Durant's importance to the Thunder, in comparison to Dirk's importance to us.
Jason Kidd v Russell Westbrook
Dirk v KD
comparisons can be made.

Dirk will be no where near the MVP this year no matter how he plays, he ruined his MVP rep when he lost to GS in the 1st round. 1. Prince James, 2. Kevin Durant, 3. Carmelo Anthony, 4. Dirk . Nash and Howard get in as HM.
I don't know if JET is eligible for the 6th man award because he's started quite a few games for us but if he is he should be the winner or at least a close second.
Coach of the year might be Sloan, OKC Coach, some random eastern conference coach with a team that seeds 5-8, or Carlisle.

I Think the awards will go something like this...
Dirk will win the MVP ... of the Finals!!!
While the team will win the NBA Championship Award!!!
all the other awards are meaningless!!!

Agreed on Westbrook, scary comparison to Kidd, the defense, the ability to get up and down, run the offense. Listened to a radio show, forgot the commentator, but he said that what Westbrook and Durant have is comparable to what KG and Marbury had. But given each of their personality, they can do damage for years to come.
Yep, Melo was all dreadlocks before Billups came into town, now the league is trying to slide him up alongside Lebron and Wade.

Scott Brooks definitely should win COY if the Thunder make the playoffs. Cmon they are 36-23 in the WESTERN Conference with like the youngest roster in the league. They were 23-59 last year. Their leader, Durant is 21 years old.

Scott Brooks >> Phil Jackson
No respect from me until the Zen master quits riding Kobe's and Jordan's coattails.

Jackson has taken strategies and motivational tactics and used the same crap he's been using since the CBA days. Has Jackson done more with the Lakers than expected....not really, Skiles definitely has. Skiles COY.
