Presidential Trivia
Over the years, I have accumulated several books on trivia related to our presidents.
So I thought it might be fun to test the Presidential IQ of dallas-mavs.com members.
Here we go:
How many US Presidents played college football and can you name them (bonus points for the college they played for!)? Hint: They were all Republicans!

Cool thread. I don't know any other footballers, but I have another trivia question:
Who is the only President to be a grandson of another President?

Gerald Ford- Michigan is correct.
I will give you one other. Richard Nixon played the line for Whittier College. Two more to go.

My guess would be Benjamin Harrison, maybe the grandson of William Henry Harrison?

That is correct. I didn't ask the question, but that's a pretty easy one.
As for the other presidents to play college football (Nixon and Ford already named), JFK played for Harvard, Eisenhower played for West Point, and Ronald Reagan played for tiny Eureka College in Illinois. However, they weren't all Republicans.
Who was the only president not to receive his party's renomination for the following election?

I was not aware that Kennedy played for Harvard. A little research reveals he did play on the junior varsity team. Kind of surprising considering his physical ailments.
Reagan and Eisenhower are right on the money.

Which US President also served as president of a union?

Correct! Ronald Reagan was president of the Screen Actor's Guild.
We're on a roll.
Which US President became stuck in the White House bathtub and had to be helped out of it by his staff?

It depends what you mean by 'assassinated' - killed or attempted murder?
Murdered while in office: Abraham Lincoln, James Garfield, William McKinley, John F. Kennedy
As for those attempted, I'll give it a shot, but I'll probably miss some:
Andrew Jackson was shot at and beat the guy with his cane in... 1834?
For some reason Theodore Roosevelt comes to mind, but I have no idea when it would have happened and don't remember the incident, but it seems to stick.
Some guy charged Truman in '48 or so and got life. I think he killed a guard.
Ford was shot at (not near enough, though... ), I'm sure of.
And obviously, Reagan in '81.
There are probably others.
Who was the only president never to marry (for numerous reasons - homosexuality being a possible one!)?

Which president was a college cheerleader on an all male squad? (not that this necessarily implies that he is an in-the-closet flamer, tho it's probably the case)

I think I heard that about W, but I thought it was a joke? So I'm going with George W. Bush.

It was one of those not so well known Presidents... either Hayes or Buchanan... I will guess James Buchanan (is he related to Pat?).

Taft is correct. In fact, the new tub was so large that four regular size men could fit in it! Pretty embarrasing.

I meant actually killed. Although actually injured would've been interesting as well.
as far as attempts... I think almost all of them have had attempts made on their lives. However most attempts are fairly lame-brained and weak, and hard to keep track of.

as to your question, I believe Garfield got married while in office, and if memory serves me it was at least partially to deflect innuendo that he was gay. (sounds alot tlike the Troy Aikman scenario, no?) Garfield married a chick who was like 19 or something, and someone that he was briefly legal guardian to (after her folks died) and he was executor of her folk's estate. not sure how well any of this would go over today!

Buchanan is correct. He spent most of his adulthood living with William Rufus King.

OK, how about this:
Three presidents have won the Nobel prize. Can you name them?

Jimmy Carter won it just a few years ago. I don't remember for what.
Teddy Roosevelt won it for managing the treaty for the Russo-Jap War.
I'm not sure of the last one, but my guess would be Wilson for the League of Nations.
Who was the youngest president to serve?

You're good! Correct on all three counts.
Your question might be a bit tricky. My memory is that T.R. was the youngest to serve (took over when McKinley was assassinated), but I believe JFK was the youngest to be elected.

The answer is Tyler and the number is fifteen. An interesting trivia tidbit is that he ran out of ideas for names so he had two sets of "John" and two sets of something else (I forget). So, while Tyler was prolific, he was not very creative.

I thought it WAS kinda "creative" for George Foreman to name all of his childred "George", on the other hand.
(creative, but still whacky)

Who was the only president to be elected as a member of the US Senate after he left the White House?

There were many (the last being Clinton). You might want to edit and clarify this question.

"Who was the only president to be elected as a member of the US Senate after he left the White House?"
Clinton? :-)

Great answer, but not the one I was looking for. Here's a hint: The former president joined the Senate and he sat next to several of his colleagues who voted for his impeachment!

jackson?
I think a real early guy, maybe an adams, went from the white house to the house, but not necessarily the senate as I recall.

^^ - JQ Adams went to the house.
Andrew Johnson's the only other president to be impeached I think. Must be him.

Ironically, the only reason I knew JQ Adams went to the house after being president was the movie "Amistad".
