7-3: Mavs withstand Pistons, continue winning ways at Auburn Hills
Hard fought game but the Mavs find a way to win despite tough shooting.
Really missed Damp tonight, who was a late scratch due to illness right before the game.

Detroit is a solid team. Any win against them is a good win.

Thanks Ben Gordon. With a normal shooting night from Ben Gordon their 3 guard lineup would have piled up 75 points...
Boobie was the only spark. Ah and the late huge nuts from our beloved Dirk.
I loved also how we blew again at least 5-6 layups. And the Pistons beating in a wild style the shotclock 5-6 times....

Jennings is going to tear us a new one tomorrow.

So how many points will Jennings score? 30? 35?

Beaubois was great in limited minutes. While he obviously didn't seem in sync with the team on many offensive sets, he had some brilliant one on one plays and was very effective in the open court.
Clutch play by Dirk down the stretch, again (except for the airball...). Weird lineups all night, including late in the first with Barea-Terry-Ross-Hump-Gooden, and our endgame lineup of Barea-Terry-Kidd-Nowitzki-Gooden.
Hump and Gooden continue to disappoint majorly with their p&r defense and offensive awareness, but both had some nice individual moments.
For all the complaining, I think Barea was very solid tonight. He knew what to do with the ball everytime he touched it down the stretch and made some very good decisions (setting up Dirk for a wide open jumper and then setting up Terry for a baseline 3 on back to back possessions). He had a stupid foul at the end, but so did Terry, and hey, even Dirk through up an airball in the last minute. Good game for JJ.

We'll probably put JJ on Jennings. And then they all get to talk about his 65 point performance.

he's been averaging 25 against most teams. He went up against a D-less Warriors teams that chose to make it a shoot em up and benefitted by scoring 55. I've followed him all season. I say he puts up a decent 25-29pts. As for who's guarding him, I see the R&R crew stepping up to him. (roddy and ross) that is. Here's some logic, He put up 55ts for them to only win by 4 pts?? We've never had much success in milwaukee, but I will take our chances, providing marion isn't injured as someone else suggested

7-3 baby!!.....close win by and Mavs and I'm very happy Terry hit his free throws to seal the game, I hope the Mavs aren't tired for the Bucks games because this new Bucks team is no walk in the park, I think Roddy might see the most time on Jennings because he did a good job guarding him in summer leauge and I know it's summer leauge but Roddy made Jennings work for everything....anyway Dirk was clutch as hell and Gooden showed up.

I'd like to point out that Roddy was guarding Gordon for a bunch of those misses.

I'm not sure, but one way to turn Marion into the whiner of old is to play the Midget over the Matrix.

And why not play Singleton? He plays great D and hustles around the goal on both ends.

Well I would be whining too if Bynum is lighting Barea up and I'm on the bench.
Rick needs to cut all this cute shit and play his best players to finish games. Its getting old.

We really could have used Singleton and a little more Beaubois. The guy is still young but he's showing a lot of maturity. He gets discouraged fast and needs to work through that, but when he's on the guy is easily on par with JJB. He really impressed me with his movement off the ball and defense. Hitting all 6 of his shots and handing out 4 assists and grabbing 2 steals doesnt hurt either.
I cant help thinking that he needs to be the playmaker more though. He has shown some rookie mistakes but has amazingly innate skills dribbling and has shown passing and playmaking skills that many 5-10 year players dont have.

He could have had 7 assists or so if a certain Maverick had finished on some of his nice dimes. Oddly enough, that Maverick was German, so no reason for concern.

What has surprised me the most about Beaubois is that he can shoot. For someone who was lauded for his physical abilities and quickness moreso than his basketball ability, he's really done more than I ever thought he would shooting the ball. Most athletic freaks tend to be projects who need to be taught how to shoot, but Roddy is an athletic freak who can beat you from the outside as well.
In light of the Brandon Jennings outbursts and our next game...would it shock you that if Beaubois played for a crappy team like Milwakee, that he could be averaging 20-25 a game in the early goings? On this team, there just isn't enough shots for Roddy to put up gaudy stats like that, at least Carlisle seems to believe that. But if he could have 25-30 shots a game...he'd be putting up some solid numbers, I feel sure.

Marc Stein said the mavs brass believes Roddy could be a ROY candidate if he was on a lottery team. It's hard to argue with that. He's good. The mavs need to play him because they're not winning a championship with JJB playing 25 mpg.

Every time Carlisle feels the urge to play Kidd and JJB at the same time, he should slap himself on the hand and put in Roddy.
JJB as a backup PG is a decent player...weak on defense, but able to be dynamic on offense, able to score and create pretty equally. JJB as a SG? He becomes a terrible defender and seems to try to jack up as many jumpers as physically possible before getting replaced. Roddy would be a much better choice as a SG when Carlisle wants to go small. And remember, often Kidd will let Roddy take hte reigns and go plant himself in the corner for as a three ball threat.

Millauwkee isn't a crappy team. Bogut is extremely underatted. It's not like Jennings is just getting burn on a scrub team. Mill beat Denver.

This team would be horrific if they could shoot more than 43%. Roddy B. should gain minutes after this game.

He had a good offensive game. But on BOTH ends on the floor?
Do you mean on offense the first half and then on offense the second half?

Two good games in a row for Gooden.
And yeah, no excuse not to play Roddy anymore.

He had a huge steal in crunch time.

I don't hate on JJB... at least not like others. I like his game, the only thing that bugs me about him is his inconsistency.

He makes costly mistakes too, Chum. It would be nice if you would ever admit he made one.
I remember this one time really getting pissed at JJ during the Hornets game, and it wasn't when he missed the free throws. During overtime, the Mavs were already down four, and he dribbled the ball ahead of his teammates past half-court. He stepped inside the arc and took a rushed 20-foot jumpshot with four defenders under the rim ready to get the rebound. The Hornets quickly pushed the ball to the other side for a wide open three. Boom. Game over.
Of course, this is wonderful Nellie-ball so I'm sure you appreciated the "hustle", but it was terrible basketball.
He had done stuff like this before and he's done it since; I'm just pulling that example because I remember it so well. He has his ups, but he certainly has his downs too.

All the Roddy nuthugging really needs to stop. The kid showed flashes but he also showed he completely is not ready to run an offense or work within this offensive system beyond a broken play guy that needs to dominate the ball. There is a certain value to having guys not break plays and play the game the coach wants you to. JJB was our second best player down the stretch tonight, made some key plays, and did a great job running the offense.
And yes, I concede there are times when Barea makes me want to pull my hair out, and Roddy has been tantalizing in limited minutes. But this is a veteran team running an installed offense, and Barea has value because he knows the system.

Match the coach to the response:
1) Avery
2) Nellie
3) Pop
A) tell him he gets to start then yank him when his fancy passes to another, then have a blow up with the owner
B) micromanage every moment on the court, then have a blow up with the owner
C) let him mature on-court and under pressure during the season, then win a bunch of championships
