Suggested new divisions and playoff format
NORTHWEST
Golden State - Oakland Minnesota - Minneapolis Portland Seattle Sacramento SOUTHWEST L.A. Clippers L.A. Lakers Denver Phoenix Utah - Salt Lake City NORTHCENTRAL Chicago Cleveland Detroit Indiana - Indianapolis Milwaukee SOUTHCENTRAL Dallas Houston Memphis New Orleans San Antonio NORTHEAST Boston New Jersey New York Philadelphia Toronto SOUTHEAST Atlanta Charlotte Miami Orlando Washington 8 games vs each division foe for 32 games. 2 games vs each 25 non-division foe for 50 games. All playoff teams are lumped together for one 16 team playoff bracket. Each division winner is guaranteed one of the top 6 seeds (best record gets #1 seed, etc). Next 10 best teams are seeded 7-16. |

Yoda says, "Around the NBA; this thread belongs."
But as to the merits, I don't see the point. Reduce travel costs? Not really a concern in the modern NBA.

Dooby, it makes the playoffs similar to the NCAA. It negates the "strongest conference."
