RE: Cowboys to have a 1PM Press conference to announce a signing....
Well in case it wasn't obvious to every one, I am certain this is for Testaverde. A NY paper announced today that Vinny was in Dallas and could sign by the end of the day.
Looks like they were right.
I think this is a good thing no matter how it turns out at the start of the season. It has been reported that Pennington got alot of value learning from Testaverde, so I think both Carter and Henson could do the same.
I wonder if it will be Hutch or Romo getting the axe. I predict that Hutch will be dealt or cut and Romo will go to the practice squad.

Vinny Testicleslessverde in town. Oh boy.
Romo is a practice squad guy. Jones was saying he might keep four qb's. I seriously doubt that.

RE:Cowboys to have a 1PM Press conference to announce a signing....
Cowboys to sign Testaverde
Announcement to come today at 1 p.m.
11:48 AM CDT on Thursday, June 3, 2004
By JEAN-JACQUES TAYLOR / The Dallas Morning News
IRVING – The Cowboys have called at 1 p.m. news conference to announce the signing of 40-year-old free-agent quarterback Vinny Testaverde, two sources confirmed.
Testaverde was released by the Jets on Wednesday.
Testaverde told the New York Daily News he relishes playing again for Cowboys coach Bill Parcells, calling it the "No. 1 reason" why he was interested Dallas. Parcells signed Testaverde to play for the Jets in 1998.
"He's a great coach," said Testaverde, who will turn 41 on Nov. 13. "As somebody put it, he's the Vince Lombardi of today."
When the Cowboys begin their first veteran minicamp of the off-season Saturday, Quincy Carter will be the starter.
Owner Jerry Jones has also said Carter will enter training camp as the starter and is expected to be the starter when the season begins in September.
If Testaverde starts for Dallas this season, he will be among the oldest starting quarterbacks in league history.
Doug Flutie started five games for the Chargers last season at age 41. Hall of Famer Johnny Unitas started for the Chargers at age 40 after a legendary career with the Baltimore Colts. Warren Moon, the longtime Oilers quarterback, is the only 40-year-old to complete a full season as a starter, accomplishing that feat with Seattle in 1997.
George Blanda is the star of the NFL quarterback geriatric set. In 1970, at 43, Blanda led Oakland to four wins and a tie with last-second touchdown passes or field goals. He threw his last NFL pass for Oakland in 1975 at age 48.
Testaverde, a 17-year veteran, entered last season as Chad Pennington's backup, but injuries forced him into the starting lineup.
Although he participated in only 21 plays in the preseason, Testaverde completed 123 of 198 passes for 1,385 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Jets went 2-5 with him as a starter.
Signing Testaverde seems to make sense for both him and the Cowboys.
He played three seasons under Parcells and he has worked with offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, so he should be familiar with the Cowboys' offense. He also has a good relationship with receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
Testaverde led the Jets and Parcells to the AFC Championship Game in 1998, when he passed for 3,256 yards with 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

They pass on Kerry Collins but take on Testaverde? Can't see Vinny making any difference as a player. Maybe as a QB coach, but not as a player.
Testaverde's signing shouldn't merit a press conference. Maybe a one-line classified ad notice in the Dallas Observer or something.

I think I understand what the Cowboys are finally trying to do. The plan this season it to let Quincy start and hopefully build up some sort of running game and offensive line. Next year is Henson's if he's ready. The Cowboys passed up on Kerry Collins and Jeff Garcia. This shows me that they are pretty stuck on Quincy being the starter this year.

Parcells has told Vinny that he'll have the chance to compete for the starting job and you have to believe him. The competition will be good for Quincy and Vinny.
I'm estatic about this signing because it should put an end to the "let's play Henson this year" talk. No way he should see the field until 2005 at the earliest.

I knew this was coming, as well it should have. A veteran QB to teach Quincy and Henson the tricks of the game, I like this idea....

If they really wanted competition they could have brought in Collins. Testedverde's career has been up and down at best.
I was glad to hear that this qb competiion will be a free for all. No preferences according to Parcells.

Well the reason Collins wasn't picked up is that Collins career isn't over. He wants to start for atleast 5 more years. That isn't going to happen here in Dallas.
