Hoops Metaphor

I'm too lazy to develop this idea, but....

Does anyone see a sports/politics metaphor between the relative states of:

1) The basketball fortunes of the Spur/Mavericks on the one hand;

as compared to

2) The basketball fortunes of the Knicks/Nets on the other?

relative to

A1) The political fortunes of the Republican party on the one hand;

as compared to

A2) The politcial fortunes of the Democratic party on the other?

how about:

the success of the texas teams is reflective of their ability to suppress individual priorities and therefore they forge a united effort to reach the common goal, while the NY teams fail to sacrifice their individual goals and to unite their efforts into a single purpose.

the republican party has united themselves behind their standard bearer like the tx teams have united themselves behind their goal of a title, while the democrat party has not united behind a single person or goal, remaining splintered and consequently less effective in communicating their message and reaching their ultimate goal.
