With no available NBA jobs close to home, Toni Kukoc appears resigned to staying there for this season and beyond.

"It looks like I'm done," Kukoc told The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel after playing in a charity golf tournament. "There are teams that want me, but I don't want to go far from home."

Kukoc, who lives in Highland Park, Ill., only wanted to play for the Bucks or the Bulls. He played for Milwaukee the past four seasons.

"My choice was either Chicago or Milwaukee," he told the newspaper. "Milwaukee is going with a young team and Chicago is in need of a big guy, so that's it."

The 38-year-old Kukoc said that he won't miss basketball if this indeed is the end of his career.

"I think it's time for me to move away from basketball. It was a huge part of my life and gave me pretty much everything I desired but there comes a time when you just can't take it anymore.

"I can still play 10, 15, 20 minutes, maybe, but I don't need it anymore. I always felt like I needed to play basketball. Right now, it's not my most desirable thing anymore. I'd rather play golf," he told the newspaper.

The Bulls drafted Kukoc in the second round in 1990. With Chicago, the Croatia native won the Sixth Man Award in 1996 and NBA titles from 1996-98.

Kukoc also has played for Philadelphia and Atlanta. He averaged 4.9 points per game last season for Milwaukee in 65 games and averaged 11.6 ppg over his 13-year career.

I bet we'll see KVH make the same decision for about the same reasons... He said he'd retire if Denver or Phoenix don't sign him - which they probably won't, based on need (although, I think he'd fit in well at the end of the Suns bench...)

I think you're right about KVH, Underdog.


It really sounds like Kukoc doesn't want to come back, even if he had been offered something. He's been terrible for awhile now, it's time to retire.

Terrible? Old and broken-down maybe, but don't you think calling him "terrible" is a little harsh?

Old & broken down is acceptable as a human being (epecially when your prime has topped most other humans)... BUT, it's about worthless to any team in the NBA...

In the last 3 years he hasn't scored more than 8.5 points a game. That's not very good for a guy that was averaging 18 in 99-00. He also hasn't played more than 65 games in a season since 97-98, excluding 03-04.

Maybe terrible is slightly harsh, but he hasn't been very good the last 3 years or so.

how many minutes was he playing the past few seasons vs. back in 99'and 00 ??
