Default Baylor @ Texas - 10/14/06

vs.

Baylor (3-3) at No. 6 Texas (5-1), 7:00 pm EDT - TBS

AUSTIN, Texas (Ticker) - Texas will be hard-pressed to top its 2005 performance against Baylor.

The sixth-ranked Longhorns look to post their ninth straight victory over the Bears when they meet in a Big 12 Conference contest on Saturday.

Last year, Texas went into Waco and crushed Baylor, 62-0. The Longhorns, who collected 645 yards on the rout, have outscored the Bears by 392-58 in their eight meetings under coach Mack Brown.

Texas (5-1, 2-0 Big 12 South) is coming off a 28-10 victory over Oklahoma in their annual "Red River Rivalry" matchup in Dallas.

Redshirt freshman Colt McCoy had a mature performance, throwing a pair of third-quarter touchdowns as the Longhorns overcame a 10-7 halftime deficit.

Texas has won 24 consecutive Big 12 home games and is 20-0 in home games against intrastate opponents under Brown.

The only other team in the division undefeated in league play, Baylor (3-3, 2-0 South) is coming off a 34-31 triple-overtime triumph at winless Colorado.

After Ryan Havens gave Baylor the lead with a 22-yard field goal, freshman linebacker Joe Pawelek ended the contest with an interception in the end zone to give the Bears consecutive Big 12 wins for the first time since the formation of the league in 1996.

The Bears have forced a national-best 19 turnovers this season and have recorded 48 takeaways since the start of last season, also tops in the country.

Doc is sorry, but not as bad as the Bears.

Do you really think it will be that close ?

I have a really odd feeling about this game.

I think Texas might just upset the Bears. I know...hard to believe, but I can't shake this feeling.

I think that's quite a bit of respect that they're only getting 27.5 points!

You must've forgotten...

Since installing their new (Leach's) spread attack, the bears are dangerous to the tune of 23 points a game.

Sick 'ugh Bears.

they arent going to beat UT or even keep it that close but the bears are a better team than most of you think/give them credit for.

BTW, Doc I Baylor has a couple more recruits coming from my HS this year. They had 4 signed originally I personally only expect 1 or 2 to ever get to baylor but if this keeps up im gonna end up being about as big a baylor fan as I am a UT fan. If you want a personal write up on them PM me and I will let you know, I have known them all since we were kids and still play touch football with them during holidays and the summer.

Always enjoy reading about the kids coming to God's Country.

Think about this game. Baylor is a lot better than you all think as 5-0 stated. Texas beat Iowa State 37-14. We beat Iowa State last year and as many of you know I hate comparisons like this, but Texas beat OU last week 28-10 and we took OU into double overtime.

Now, the horns 62-0 game last year was brutal. It was over just after kickoff. Our team that week was awful. Parks at QB was disastrous. For those who have not heard, Parks was convertedt o TE where he has played very well. Unfortunately, Parks was booted from the team today for breaking team rules (no idea don't ask).

Considering that Baylor is at the brink of playing at the level of a midlevel team I think the game will be much closer than you think. No upset predictions here, but I would b surprised if we didn't cover the spread. CJ Wilson is one of the top defensive backs on earth and Sepulveda should flip the field several times.

Honestly...what worries most is Texas' running game. We simply are not good against the run and I predict a long day there. That said, this is a very much improved team. Baylor loses big but covers the spread.

Doc's shoe in stone cold lock for the week:

Texas - 38
Baylor -17

I think cap is closer at 43-13, doc.

in which case, hardly a game/mercy killing that needs a thread.

We all know my UT homerism. I think I would have taken that if I was you too. This has a 38-14/17 feel to me. BTW to all the other UT fans that are so sure of beating the line I must tell you of a saying, "if you think there is any absolute lock against the Vegas linemakers, bet it all but bet the other way" It was something my dad told me when I was little. Those guys make a living predicting this stuff and more often than not they are darn close. I will NEVER bet on anyone -31. The coach just doesnt have an incentive to win by that much.

My buddy works here on campus and he has been spouting off all week. The line opened at -29 and with as much noise as he was talking, I said "then you won't mind giving me a couple of points then?" and he goes off on last years 62-0 game. I pressed him and he says I'll give you two points for 500.

Deal.

Easy money......plus, he owes me about 150 right now so even if I lose it isn't that bad.

This is an odd game...
I'm a big time UT homer, but I love watching Bell play for Baylor. He's a heck of a QB. Plus, I've liked the Baylor program since the Ray Berry days. So, I hate to see Baylor get hammered..but, I know that anything less than a hammering will cost UT a few votes in the polls.

So, I hope UT wins by about 20 but Bell and the Bears make a decent game of it.

There's 3 QB's that I really enjoy watching... Kolb, Daniels, and Bell....of course of Houston, Missouri, and Baylor.. All of those guys are pretty damn impressive. Daniels and the Missou Tigers lost their first game today largely because of horrific coaching and fumbles...but, he's only a Soph.

Odd game indeed.... 56 yard rushing touchdown which brings Baylor in + rushing yardage for the first time.... Now at +26.
