Who do you want to play in the first round?
Which of the following teams would you want to play in the first round of the playoffs and why?
Phoenix won't be making the playoffs unless a miracle happens for them, but considering that they may have been in this position even with Amar'e, highly unlikely.

I think that it will be impossible to take Portland.
Maybe we will end 7th or 6th taking Spurs or Rockets...and we could have some chances with Spurs

I would prefer a first round bye, we have bad luck in the first round but seem to do pretty well in the 2nd round. (yes I know there's no byes)

I'd take the Lakers in Round 1 because JJB is the Kobe stopper

Let's see, the Order I don't want the Mavs to have to face them
Los Angeles Lakers
New Orleans Hornets
Denver Nuggets
San Antonio Spurs
Utah Jazz
Houston Rockets
Portland Trailblazers
I like Dallas's chances really up to the Spurs, and they have a chance (albeit small) against them. Denver has Dallas' number, LA is too good and too balanced, NO is too balanced, and Dallas has no way to stop CP3.
On too who wins it all..........
Best for the business world if LBJ gets his this year, so that is my pick to win it all. Makes interest extremely high in the NBA determining where LBJ will go, and where all these players be in '10.

I wanted to say that it's impossible to match up Portland because they are 6th and we 8th now.
So I think that to match up Portland, one of us have to reach 3th or 4th spot but it's very difficult to happens...
I don't think that Portland could reach 3th or 4th and I think that we could reach 7th or 6th spot..so we can't match up Portland

The likelihood that it will be the Lakers is high enough that any discussion otherwise is probably not the best use of our time.

Portland is the only team that we could reasonably "expect" to beat in a playoff series, even though there are certainly no easy opponents.
I would be neither hopeless nor optimistic if we had to go against Denver, Houston, or San Antonio, yet I wouldn't be surprised at all if we didn't get it done against them. We would have to be very good.
And I truly hope that we won't see the Lakers, Hornets, or Jazz in the first round.

Yeah 1-1.5 games seperating like 5 different seeds.. we're definitely locked in the 8th seed with 18ish games to go.

I want the Lakers in the First round. If we have to face them later on anyway, then why not in the first round when we will have a little more energy.
But I see us moving to the 4th or 5th spot and not facing LA, I think its gonna be Houston

If the Mavs face the Lakers and actually beat them I think you've added about 2 or 3 more years to this teams playoff run. I still think this team is being haunted by the Golden State Warriors debacle. All of those post season where we underachieved would be thrown out the window beating the Lakers. That being said, even without Bynum that's going to be hell to get done.

There are 1.5 games separating the 3rd seed from the 8th (4 games between 2nd and 8th) with 17 games left to play in the season - none of the playoff spots are set in stone aside from LA sitting at #1...

The Mavs at least play the Spurs tooth and nail almost regardless of the situation... And the Spurs have never really had a good answer for Dirk.

I agree completely. Portland would be perfect, the Spurs are not impossible to beat. Same with Houston. Denver is difficult and the other three are almost impossible. We can't stop Kobe, we can't stop Paul and the Jazz have their homecourt whistles. We can't be sure to have homecourt-advantage against the Jazz. Well, even if, it's not guaranteed to win every home game against them and finally they are a good team.

San Antonio just began incorporating Gooden into the rotation, and don't forget Ginobili will probably be back soon and playing his normal minutes by the postseason. I think they would be just as bad as the Lakers/Jazz/New Orleans

I know this isn't really the question, but I want to play Portland in the second round. Portland seems to have LA's number, and I'd love if they could knock them out in the first round, and then we could take Portland next.

Man, I just want KIDDIRK to beat the crap out of the Lakers. This is the year, I know it. Like coach RC said, never underestimate greatness.
A little bit more of fine tuning over the next weeks, get Josh back into the mix and we are ready for crunch time.
Go MAVS!

I disagree with this. I'd say the likelihood that it's the Lakers is less than 50%. The Mavs are half a game out of the 6th spot and 1.5 games out of the 3rd spot. They could easily fall anywhere in between.

I swear to GOD a 3-4-5 seed is right there for the taking.
It'll just require the Mavs to beat the teams they're supposed to beat, and even steal a few games on the road against teams they're not supposed to beat.
Games like tonight, if we have any plans of getting a higher seed, cannot be lost.
Just gotta show some of the consistency we've been lacking all year.

L.A. Lakers 52 13 0.800 -
San Antonio 43 21 0.672 8½
Houston 42 24 0.636 10½
Utah 41 24 0.631 11
New Orleans 40 23 0.635 11
Portland 40 24 0.625 11½
Denver 41 25 0.621 11½
Dallas 40 25 0.615 12
Seems silly to say we're locked into 8th. Also 5 of the last 6 games of the season is played at home. I predict we finish 51-31. We'd have to go 11-6 from here out for that to happen. Usually 51 wins is not an 8th seed but how crazy the West has been the last few years its possible. The 3rd and 4th last games of the season are back to backs against New Orleans, that should be interesting.

Yes, but there are 4 teams between us and the 4th spot. This means that we should win always and all the teams ahead of us shouldn't win!
I hope to happen but do you think really possible?

We have 4 tough road games left. The other 13 games I consider winable.
If we go 13-4, we will have homecourt. You heard it right here first.
