PGT: Mavs defense > Grizz legs
Haywood, Roddy, Matrix and JET with some big plays down the stretch.
Dirk with a 23/10 double-double.
West with an efficient 14 points on 6-7 shooting.
Mahinmi with 10 big boards in 24 minutes.
No Kidd.
Mavs with the win.

Marion completely neutralized Rudy tonight. The lack of legs for the Grizz really showed up on the boards. Solid and much-needed win.

Every Mav had a positive plus/minus except for Odom, who was -11.

Dirk really needed a breather with 38 minutes logged, so we definitely could have done worse than Odom's 5 points, 5 boards, 1 steal and no TO's in 19 minutes (although a couple of those minutes were with Dirk on the court...)

Watching Jet on the postgame show. I'm going to be sad when that dude isn't a maverick anymore.

Odom missed a layup right at the rim, air balled a free throw, and missed 2 big defensive rotations.

Mavs won this game and certainly there are games mavs lost because of fatigue so they will take it but I don't think the 4rth quarter was much more than a fatigued and exhuasted Memphis team the Mavs took advantage of.

Roddy was really good tonight. Got into the lane, played really nice defense, even risked some contact. Good stuff.
Jet also played inside the three point line tonight.
Lamar.....

Bullets:
Game:- #Mavs beat #Grizzlies 106.77 to 95.53 PP100. One of the rare games since ASG in which they held opp to <100 PP100 (5th time)
- #Mavs outrebound an opp (52.94%) for only the second time in last 8, ORB% also better after a cruel stretch.
- Lately the percentage of assisted FGs is down. In last 8, #Mavs AST% was <50% five times, only four times before that all season.
- #Grizzlies FTM per FGA was only 9.64% (2nd worst this season at home for opps). #Mavs do a good job avoiding fouls in last 5 at home
- #Mavs only attempt 16.86 3FGA P100, fewest value at home all season.
- The second half was special: At +33.34 PP100 it was the best effort for a 2H at home this season (80.95 Def).
- #Mavs grab 61.91 Rebounds P100 in 2H, score 33.33 PP100 in Transition, third best value at home this season.
- #Grizzlies attempt 33 shots from within 10 feet, shoot 18-for-50 otherwise. #Mavs go 8-for-13 on long 2FG (>16 feet)
Lineups:- Starting unit was a +40.10 PP100 tonight on 89.09 Def, outscored #Grizzlies 29-20. Bench units: +4.69, took avg shot from 10.45 feet
- Best unit was Roddy-Terry-Marion-Dirk-Ian at +47.25, individual +/- to @swish41 (+78.55). Not loved: Odom, Terry, West, Ian
- #Mavs backcourts: Terry/West -30.78 on 107.73 Def - Terrois: +22.26 on 91.45 Def, shot 57.58%, held #Grizzlies to 37.84%
- C-Watch: /w Wood +14.74 on 95.79 Def, 48.78% TRB - Ian: +4.57 on 95.98 Def and 57.89% TRB, also only 45.70 PP100 in Paint for #Grizzlies
Players:- Dirk leads PER (28.8), WS48 (0.387), West WP48 (0.427). Marion with a great game, everyone else except Carter solid.
- Best rebounder was @ianmahinmi (27.0%), Roddy 31.3% AST%, West 100% TS%. All of Shawn's, Roddy's, Odom's points came in the paint
- It was actually Ian's best rebounding performance (>20 min played) this season

Stat of the night: Terry's lone three-pointer tied him with Peja for 5th on the NBA career list...

Really pleased the team didn't take that much threes, winning formula.
JET also was great, hopefully his behind-the-back fastbreak assist will appear in the NBA Top10 of the night.

Griffin got the top 2 spots on lock, unless they show both for number 1.

FYI, it's not just your threads.
As to the game, another big, important win after a frustrating stumble. The team really took control down the stretch. Booby did a terrific job as a closer tonight. One thing I noticed, and that I was very glad to see, beyond the all-court focus that Booby displayed, was the fact that JET deferred to him as the team's point guard during that critical late phase of the game. I don't always see him show Booby that kind of trust when they share the court, but he did tonight, Booby responded by doing his part - which, to be fair, he hasn't always done - and the team reaped the benefits.
Keep those wins coming.

I guess it's one of those wins where you can thrash it with whatever you like.

Your threads are pretty terrible.
Great win for the Mav's tonight. Roddy looks more comfortable when we have a nice lead heading late into the 4th. Still not sure about him when things are close towards the end.

Not sure I see where you're coming from. It's not like Booby inherited a lead. Mavs were down when he checked in, and his play was a significant part of why they were able to take control and not let go.

You forgot to mention the inexcuseable missed defensive rebound that resulted in an and-1. Seriously, Odom just let the guy right in front of him for the offensive rebound.

I'll be so glad when the Mavs dump him in the offseason...I'm not felling sorry for Odom anymore because look what Roddy went threw, Roddy had to lay his father to rest and then Roddy came back and played his a** off...then you have Odom who's still upset about not being a Laker when he asked to be traded, I said a few week ago that Mavs fans will NEVER see the real Odom and where not.

Great stuff again. On days where I can't watch most of the game, this is the first thing I look for to most accurately recap what happened.
I have a strange, unrelated stat request that it would be awesome if you could help me with - can I get the Mav's offensive efficiency # for the season with the 5 worst games and the 5 best games removed? I'd like to see whether this 23d ranked offensive efficiency stays where it is once we eliminate a little bit of the noisier games.

Notebook: Mavericks 95, Grizzlies 85
Posted Wednesday April 4, 2012 11:54PM
By Dave Ivey, for NBA.com
THE FACTS: Memphis controlled the game through three quarters, but fatigue caught up to the Grizzlies in the fourth quarter Wednesday and so did the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas to a 95-85 victory with 23 points and 10 rebounds, snapping a three-game winning streak by a Memphis squad playing the final game of a back-to-back-to-back and its fifth game in six nights.
Shawn Marion added 16 points, Jason Terry tallied 15 and Delonte West had 14 for the Mavs (31-24), who had dropped their last three meetings with the Grizzlies (30-23). The teams clash again Saturday in Memphis to decide the season series. O.J. Mayo paced Memphis with 17 points, courtesy of his 4-for-5 shooting from downtown.
QUOTABLE: "We kept staying ahead, staying ahead, and then right at the end we kind of let go of the rope a little bit. They got the lead and sustained their run. They got a little more aggressive offensively and kept attacking the basket, and we just didn't have enough to hold the finger in the dike."
-- Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins.
THE STAT: It was a rare rally for Dallas. This is just the third time the Mavericks have won a game this season when trailing after three quarters (3-20). Memphis led 68-66 entering the fourth. The defending champs were 18-22 in that situation last season.
TURNING POINT: Dallas used a 21-4 run from the 9:39 mark of the fourth quarter through the 3:01 mark to flip a 73-68 deficit into an 89-77 advantage. The Grizzlies' only points in that stretch came on a layup by Mayo and one free throw each from Marc Gasol and Mayo. They were 1-for-12 during the cold snap.
QUOTABLE II: "I think we ran out of gas."
-- Memphis guard Mike Conley.
QUOTABLE III: "Our motto is 'don't even worry about it,' so if something goes wrong out on the floor or somebody is out of the lineup, we just tell ourselves don't even worry about it, just keep playing. That's what has been keeping us in these games and keeping us positive."
-- Terry.
HOT: Starting for the injured Jason Kidd (right groin strain), West finished 6-for-7 and knocked down both of his 3-point attempts in his highest-scoring game since Jan. 30 at Phoenix (25 points).
NOT: The Grizzlies scored just 34 points in the second half on 30 percent shooting (12-for-40). After intermission, Rudy Gay was 0-for-5, Gasol was 1-for-6 and Conley was 1-for-6.
GOOD MOVE: Terry picked of a sloppy pass by Gay and drove to the basket before dishing it behind his back to a trailing Marion for an easy layup and an 85-77 lead.
BAD MOVE: Shortly after missing a wide-open finger roll, things got even more embarrassing for Mavericks forward Lamar Odom when he touched nothing but air on a free-throw misfire with 56.9 seconds left in the third quarter.
FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Gasol shot just 3-for-13, but still had a nice night for fantasy owners with 10 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four blocked shots. ... Backup center Ian Mahinmi matched his season high with 10 boards for the Mavericks.
NOTABLE: Terry's 3-pointer with 4:59 left in the game was the 1,760th of his career, matching Peja Stojakovic for fifth place in NBA history. ... The Mavericks improved to 5-19 when trailing by 10 or more points this year. They were down 46-36 in the second quarter. ... Memphis guard Tony Allen went to the locker room midway through the fourth quarter with an apparent bloody nose. ... Mayo has led the Grizzlies in scoring in four straight games, the longest streak of his career.
UP NEXT: For the Mavericks, Friday vs. Portland, Saturday @ Memphis, Tuesday vs. Sacramento. For the Grizzlies, Friday @ Miami, Saturday vs. Dallas, Monday vs. L.A. Clippers.

I still just think it's ridiculously amazing that 3 of the (now) top 5 three-pointer shooters all time were on the Mavs' championship team. Very fitting, too, considering how they won some of those playoff games.

Great win. Roddy (and everyone for that matter) with a much needed big game. Mahinmi has been quietly solid in the last ten games minus one of the Houston games and against the Clips.

a quote by Marion last night....
"We've all got legacies we want to leave behind," said Marion, a four-time All-Star with the Phoenix Suns who has accepted being a role player in Dallas. "I've got one (championship), and I'm still aiming for one. There's a piece of my legacy that I don't have yet. I want it. Everybody wants to be a champion. I've been there. I wouldn't mind being a two-time champion."

Man, I love this guy. I'm going to be genuinely hurt if we amnesty Marion in the future. Yes, I know it's a business but it's hard for me to accept the fact that we might have to lose such a hardworking, great player like Shawn Marion.

Halfway through the first half, I was ready to admit that the Cuban experiment of releasing starters from a championship team was a bust, but when the Mavs focus and play defense, they can play with anybody...or can they?
For now, the jury is still out. I'd say the vote is 4 to 4 with four jurors still undecided. We do know that inside the chest of Dirk, Jet, Kidd and Marion lurks the heart of a champion. The verdict on the help will determine the final result. Its crunch time. If the Mavs of the 2nd half show up every night, we will be fine. If that bunch that laid down in front of the Clippers comes back...well, we'd better get DWill, or this season and next will be rememberd as Tony Cube's big, dumb gamble.

Yep, you have to appreciate Marion's professionalism.. Kinda wish Terry would learn a bit from the guy.

Tied for 5th actually makes 3 of 6.

Kinda weird thing about Marion I noticed last night during the national anthem. Haywood has always been a on again, off again placing his hand over heart during the national anthem. Yi started doing it but now kinda does it halfway, about at his side.
Last night was the first time I haven't seen Marion do it. Just an observation.

Not necessarily. There are some big upgrades to have even if Deron doesn't come here, and Cuban will field a better team next year, than this year's squad, no matter what, you can be sure about that.
If we would have Chandler on a 4 year contract, and Butler on a 3 year contract, the most probable outcome is that we're in cap hell for the next 4 years, without a real chance to win a championship, with an aging Butler, and with a center that may, or may not able to stay healthy.
As far as i'm concerned, it was the smarter, more rewarding decision, even if we don't get Deron. You guys have to realize, we weren't anything like the 90's Bulls, or the three-peat Lakers, it was a perfect storm, and chances for a repeat were always going to be slim.

Thank J.
That's pretty disgusting. Thank goodness the defense has been solid.

Here's a troubling stat:
With both teams rested (not on a B2B), Mavs rank 22nd in league in terms of Differential per 100 (-3.02), 27nd on Offense (99.64). Record is 10-14 (4-6 vs. West Playoff). That's the worst ranking among all current playoff teams. ATL ranks 20th, Memphis 18th, Denver 15th.
