Michael Finley has always been one of my favorite players even before I moved to Dallas years ago. He's the kind of pro-athlete who doesn't behave like a pro-athlete i.e. thrash-talking, big ego and bling-bling show-off and that's why I like him so much.
For people who think that Michael has no desire or the intensity to win a championship is just ridiculous. Just because he doesn't show the game-face scowl or much emotions during games doesn't mean he has no heart to win.
I believe I'll always have a soft spot for Michael. There's nobody I want to see hoisting the NBA championship trophy in Dallas more than Michael Finley. Maybe I like him so much because he's been here since the lean years.
If you think Finley is useless... consider this: Is he the first option in the Mavs game plan? I don't think so. Michael is the 3rd option at best behind Dirk and Steve. How many teams have the luxury of having a player like Michael as a 3rd. option? But herein lies the problem IMO... for a 3rd. option Michael tries to do to much and often tries to create his own shot but he lacks speed in dribbling and have to resort to fade-aways.
Michael is a good shooter and rebounder for a guard and I believe he could do much more for the team if he takes on the role of the spot-up open shooter and hustle player on the boards. In other words... the role player.
I'd feel sad to see Finley getting traded but I liken this scenario as what the Cowboys are facing this year... to keep Emmit Smith or not. Many people want Emmit to stay and retire as a Cowboy but how is the franchise suppose to rebuild and improve if Emmit insists to play somemore?
Choosing between loyalty and victory is such a beyotch. What do you think?
