The Jae Crowder appreciation thread
I think it is way past time for this. He is already one of my three favorite players on the team (behind marion and dirk), love his game from Marquette, his twitter CAPS LOCK, his summer league play, and being a Kenneth Faried look a like. This guy is tough as nails, defends all over the floor at a high level and plays with non stop energy.

Good pic. Great thread.
I think he will end the season as a 15mpg guy playing in most games. Bold prediction but I like his game a lot.

Let's open appreciation threads in Ferbruary. Way too early, way too early...too much hype.
Right now only Dirk and Marion deserve such a thread. The rest has to prove it on the court in a MAVS uni 1st. It is almost disrespectful towards our "real MAV heroes".

I keep getting my rookies confused. He's the Ron Artest-like player, right? Jared Cunningham was the higher pick though, so we should expect even more from him?

He's more athletic than Ron I think, but less offensive game than Ron had in his prime. Cunningham is more the longterm pick with a high ceiling that isn't ready to play right now, Crowder should be better this year.

Thanks for the clarification! I'll keep my eye on both players this season.

It's pretty surprising to see this kind of scoring outburst from him. Hopefully they'll play him 10-15 minutes a game right away. He produced so far when he got the chance.

7 three point attempts? Does this guy have an offensive game beyond long range jumpshots and uncontrolled straight-line drives?

He does have a pull up jumper. He's got most of the tools, it's just a matter of consistency. They love him

Sure they love him and he has a great chance to get some backup SF minutes from Carter, specially if the new guys like Collison/Mayo/Kaman/Brand deliver solid scoring...BUT Danthay Jones is this typical "forgotten trade throw in" like Stevenson. I wouldnt be surprised if Jones grabs more minutes than everyone expect....

I love the defensive intensity. I just hope he can do a little more than be a jump-shooter offensively. He showed some promise finishing after contact on a layup, and maintaining control running-back style while burying his head on a drive on a separate play. If he can work in one or two post moves, sorta like Marion's little flip hook or an up and under, he can add tremendously to his game.
I don't see him being able to create his own jumpshot, and while it's good he can hit the three to keep the defense honest, i'd like to see a little more offensive dynamism from our 1-2-3 positions. As is, though, I think he's definitely our most ready rookie.

If he can knock down open 3s at a good rate, rebound, and be a really good defender that is great value for a early second rounder. His handle definitely needs some work, and he is going to have to be quick to work in the post at his size.

In last night's game, Jae already surpassed everything that Dojo has done in 2 years for us.

Yep. Also, before we even drafted him, Jae had already surpassed everything Odom did for us last season.

Dude is built like a tank. I like him and the other rooks. Although Cunningham was a little out of control.

Crowder doesn't mind the rookie hazing
DALLAS -- NBA rookies are often hazed by their veteran teammates. But the rookies know it's all in fun and games, and no one is trying to do them any bodily harm.
Take the case of Dallas Mavericks rookie Jae Crowder. He was all smiles Tuesday when he said: "When we took the overseas trip (Oct. 3-10 to Germany and Spain), I was the rookie that had to get all the chicken.
"(Some) $250 worth of chicken for the whole team.''
And that's not all that rookies Jared Cunningham, Bernard James and Crowder have to encounter.
"We come in early, just have to do little stuff -- get the towels ready for the older guys,'' Crowder said. "We don’t have to wear any backpacks right now, but we have to come in a little earlier than
normal and get the stuff ready for the older guys.
"Oh yeah, after practice and when we’re on the road (the rookies have to) get the wet jerseys and stuff and take them to the cleaners. Little stuff like that, but it's all fun and games. We have to respect those older guys.''

10pts, 6reb, 5 steals, 3 blocks
not a bad way to follow up for 20pts, 5reb, 2stl, 2ast

Crowder is a freakin' beast. One of the steals of the draft, hope every team that passed on him will be spewing.

Crowder seems to be in a really good spot for him. He's about the only small forward besides marion on the team.

And he really had quick hands tonight. He got beat at least twice on offensive rebounds and stripped the ball from the rebounder. I also like the way he isn't running around like a chicken with his head cut off.
One sequence they were trying to come back so the agememnon and dojo were jacking up crap. Crowder had the ball on the wing and could have taken a low-percentage shot with the clock winding down. Instead he took a little dribble and dished it off to sarge for a dunk.
Not much, not spectacular but even when all those around him had devolved into chuck the ball up as soon as you get it mode, he was playing basketball. Nicely done.

Crowder will get those minutes behind Marion if he plays like this regularly.

The Crow will be a rotation player by the end of the year. And I bet he will be play more minutes than DoJo/Dantay/Cunningham/James combined.
The Spurs always get praised with their draft picks. Crowder will be our Kawhli Leonard (sp?).

The better Crowder plays, the more likely we are to see Carter (or possibly Marion) traded before the deadline... This kid is for real.
