Brand to Dallas
Per Woj.
https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/
"The Dallas Mavericks have successfully claimed Elton Brand off amnesty waivers, a league source tells Y! Sports."

Very happy about this. Was worried when Hornets were reported as winners by some early tweets.

And this is why, as I posted in the other thread, you should never listen to twitter NBA rumors that start anywhere outside of the Stein/Woj/Spears/newspaper/Hoopsworld class of reporters.

I don't know much about the place but they do have Larry Coon blogging there. He's answered a few of my salary cap questions in the past. I have a hard time seeing Coon working for a place with no rep, but who knows.

Ah..just curious. I used to write for them back when I was big time into the NBA... I know a few people landed big time gigs from the hoopsworld springboard.. But, I knew the CBA pretty damn well back then and watched close to 200 NBA games a year.

Was just going to post that. Damn you, Doc Holliday! I didn't want to be Billy Bob Thorton in this equation.
And to the news..... yeah!

Why did I have to doubt this front office so soon? Why?
Honestly though obviously this team isn't exactly a world beater as currently constructed but I am very impressed by these recent moves. Praying the Mavericks can snag Courtney Lee or a nice shooter somehow.

Yup. That's far better than I dared hope.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with their remaining cap space.

Mavs are sandbagging on Scola. They want Scola. I don't know if they seriously wanted Brand with that bid.

There is no reason the Mavs would rather have Scola than Brand. Brand is a elite post defender, the better rebounder (scola really regressed there this year), and unlike Scola can play some 5 effectively. Not to meantion Brand is a 1 year deal while Scola will need to be north of 10 mill for 3 years.

Wow, very nice. Deron Williams might be regretting his decision to stay with the Nets sooner rather than later.
A front court of Dirk, Kaman, and Brand is going to be very different from all previous Dirk-era iterations of the Mavs. Should be interesting. I'm already looking forward to the season starting.

I was just talking to a friend about that - Deron chose Joe Johnson over the smartest front office in the league... Idiot.

Yeah, tanking and lucking out on drafting Tim Duncan was a brilliant move... Or were you referring to their acquisition of Richard Jefferson a couple years back? But, yeah, I like how they've gotten better this offseason by doing absolutely nothing.
(sorry, but the Mavs get to be the smartest front office for a day...)

Well hey, I said it right when the season ended that a solid plan B could be just as good (I mentioned Dragic/Kaman so I at least got it half right). It's nice not having 17 million tied up with one player. The center position is now good for over 20 ppg. Who woulda thunk?

Not so much - he's too busy playing basketball for a chunk of the year, then the rest of the time he's a millionaire who can live wherever he wants... He chose money over winning and that's how it is (unless adding Joe Johnson to a team that won 33% of its games last season is going to put them over the top?)

I don't mean the city Brooklyn. I mean the Brooklyn area and the stadium. He's the franchise player of a new basketball team in Brooklyn. Its intriguing. In reality all they are is the New Jersey Nets with Joe Johnson. But with Russian, new stadium and new city? He chose that over coming home.

He chose a team that was willing to spend whatever it took over one that was ( and will again next offseason ) stripping down. IMO he made the right decision for himself.

Judging from his comments I would say the opposite, which makes Deron's logic even more weird. He referenced how Dallas would fit his kids life style more than brooklyn.

uh...????
I'm pleased with our moves, but that's a wild, wild, statement.
We're still not going to contend for home court in the first round with this squad- we're still in 6-8 in the West territory at best, even if we nab Scola as well.
