Rodriguez strikes out to end the Yankees season for the second year in a row.
Bring on the Tigers.

Can totally deal with that. Let's look at our nine games against the Tigers this year.
Game 1: Rangers 2, Tigers 0. Ogando bests Verlander. 'Nuff said.
Game 2: Tigers 5, Rangers 4. Darren O'Day gets the loss in walkoff fashion, Hamilton breaks his arm.
Game 3: Tigers 3, Rangers 2. Dave Bush gets the start for the Rangers, Darren Oliver gets the loss, again in walkoff fashion.
Game 4: Tigers 13, Rangers 7. Colby Lewis gets lit up at home.
Game 5: Tigers 8, Rangers 1. Tigers get 20 hits off of Harrison and Co, Porcello gives up one run.
Game 6: Rangers 7, Tigers 3. Ogando beats Coke.
Game 7: Tigers 6, Rangers 5. Adams gives up game-winning HR to Boesch.
Game 8: Tigers 5, Rangers 4. Fister kicks our asses.
Game 9: Rangers 5, Tigers 2. Ogando wins again.
What should we take from the season series? Not much. Holland didn't pitch at all, Wilson only once.
We're better than them. Verlander's pitching on Saturday, but who takes game 2 on Sunday? Porcello seems likely. Fister and Scherzer might be unavailable after tonight.
Game 1: Verlander v. Wilson
Game 2: Porcello v. Holland
Game 3: Lewis v. Scherzer
Game 4: Harrison v. Fister
We've got a good shot at winning every one of those games. Let's do this thing.

I suggest the Rangers motion to have all their home games played at Tropicana Field.

Booo...
Frankly, there is a case to be made for Detroit for sure. We don't hit well in their park, they have the best pitcher in baseball going twice, they have hit our pitchers well this year, plus we just seem to have this, I don't know, mental block or even slight fear in play - it's weird.
That said, who cares. A lot of that could be said about NY last year until we finally beat them. I say may the best team win and I think the best team is Texas.
We don't have the best pitcher and possibly don't even have the best all-around hitter - but we have a ton of depth and a very potent offense with pitchers that have proven a lot of people wrong this year.
Given the post season allows you to use a 4-man rotation, our bullpen is looking very good too with Ogando joining that group.
Give me Texas in 6.
Go Rangers!

Texas has the better team, but that's why you play the games.

I think we have the pure pitching advantage in 3/4ths of the rotation - and in the other game, it's not as far apart as people would think.
Post all-star break:
CJ Wilson, 7-4, 2.56 ERA, 91.1 IP, 74 H, 32 BB, 89 K
Justin Verlander, 12-1, 2.79 ERA, 100.0 IP, 73 H, 26 BB, 103 K

Roughly 9 less innings and 6 more walks. This is not the team you want to issue free passes to. That said, Detroit also plays in a pitcher's park vs. our hitter's park, but still, Verlander is a beast that I fully expect to put us in a 0-1 hole Saturday. I think we win the series, but if I was a betting man my money would be on Justin come game 1.
If we surprise Detroit and grab the 1-0 lead, this could be a very short series. Just comes down to which Wilson shows up, really.
Go CJ and go Rangers!

I finally win one. I went to a game in every series the last two seasons and lost each time. The weather made me earn this one. But I'm on the board!

Bullpen was lights-out. Cruz got his mojo back. Ogando is looking like an ace-turned-bullpen reliever. Feliz pitched 101. What a game! I hope the late ending doesnt affect the game today.

I am so very happy Neftali Feliz and Alexi Ogando will both be on our team for a very very long time.

I think it's safe to say that Nefti is past last season's chokiness.

Just now rewatching the game. Our bullpen was insanely good. Of the 15 batters faced after CJ left, only one ball left the infield. There was only about one well struck foul ball.
Det was 1-13 with a bunt single, a two out walk and 8 strikeouts. Beastly.

Ratings. They'd have to sacrifice ratings by putting it in primetime versus their regularly scheduled program.

early starts during the weekday = most fans are at work. pretty lame I agree! The weather isnt even bad today. I guess the players might be tired if forced to play today? They sure looked it last night, lots of yawns. I'm going to be stuck in rush hour traffic for the final innings ><

Thankfully I already had tomorrow off to watch the kiddos, but what an epic fail on MLB's part.
I have friends that are having to discount sell their Game 2 tickets because they'll be at work tomorrow. What a mess.

3:30 starts are just stupid. I can't imagine one good reason for them. It's not so that the kids can watch them. What bullsh. Can you imagine an NFL playoff game on a Monday at 3pm?

Well, in the case of tomorrow's game, it's because it's a make up, and they will no longer have an off day. They're now going to play four straight days, with a flight after the first one. So in that case I'm fine with the game being in the afternoon (the issue today was postponing it in the first place).
As for the other two games that start at 3:20...well it's idiotic. And if the Yankees or Red Sox were involved they'd be in prime time.
I don't blame the network, they're just looking out for the their bottom line. But MLB should care about something like this, and shouldn't even give networks this option when negotiating the tv rights. But they don't care.

If the networks don't think it is good prime-time programming, why the hell are they buying it?

They're buying the assumption that more often than not, either the Yankees or the Red Sox are going to be in the ALCS.

Tigers say they will not move Verlander up to Game 4 and he will start Game 5 as scheduled. Great news.

Man, Adam and Joey had some choice words for MLB and Fox. Just crazy how this played out tonight and crazy that we play 3 early games next week with Milwaukee/St. Louis not playing a single one. WTF?

Well its awfully easy to get tickets to this game. Two fell in my lap. Not sure if I want to deal with the hassle of going though. Does that make me a bad fan? ;/

Good start! Holland got into a little bit of trouble, but got out of it. Then Hambone and Beltre got clutch hits.

Holland is walking just a tad too many batters for my taste. I'm a bit nervous!
