2016 NBA Offseason Thread
Figured I'd christen this bad boy with the following rumor:
Per the Vertical, Hawks and Sixers are discussing a trade centered around swapping Jeff Teague for Nerlens Noel.
Maybe I'm overrating Nerlens, but I think even Teague/1st is a pretty mediocre return for him.

@WojVerticalNBA: Atlanta is sending guard Jeff Teague to Indiana as part of a three-way deal, league sources tell @TheVertical.
@WojVerticalNBA: Three-way deal with Atlanta, Indiana and Utah, with George Hill going to the Jazz, league sources tell @TheVertical.
@WojVerticalNBA: Sources: Utah is sending the No. 12 pick in Thursday's Draft to Atlanta as part of deal that sends George Hill to Utah, Teague to Indy.
@WojVerticalNBA: Indiana has plans to work on signing Teague to a contract extension, league sources tell @TheVertical.

Wow... Atlanta went from potentially getting Nerlens Noel to getting the #12 pick. That seems like a steep drop to me. I wonder what the Hawks were asking for from the Sixers that made them back out?
Also, for Indy I really feel like they would have been better off trading Monta, since George Hill can share a backcourt with almost anyone. Must have come down to value... Monta's has got to be about as low as its ever been right now.
You gotta figure this means Ellis is going to the bench, right?

Sixers probably wanted a pick for Nerlens as well. And it doesn't surprise me because Teague's value is low after last season. And first round draft picks cost a lot these days since they're excellent value if the player pans out.

@KCJHoop: The Bulls are sending Derrick Rose, Justin Holiday and a 2017 2nd-round pick for Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon, per source.
@FisolaNYDN: By dealing Robin Lopez, look for Knicks to possibly pursue Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol or Dwight Howard in free agency.

Ian Begley: The Knicks are looking to upgrade their backcourt this offseason. But if they have any interest in a center, one of the top bigs on the market would be open to signing with them. The Knicks are one of several teams Dwight Howard would consider in free agency, league sources say. Howard told friends earlier in the season that he was interested in playing for the Knicks; that interest remains as Howard approaches free agency, per league sources. It’s unclear, though, if Phil Jackson and the Knicks would have any interest in Howard.

@BillSimmons: Not sure if they can get the 3rd pieces, but a Knicks team starring Carmelo, DRose and Dwight would be the Knickiest thing in a while.

Even if it's a weak class, THIS is the year to get into the first round, with how much of a bargain first-rounders are relative to the increasing cap.

I think the Bulls got pretty good value for Rose in that trade considering his bottom of the barrel value.

Definitely. The triangle offense didn't suit Lopez at allll. The Knicks never drove the basketball or ran pick and rolls significantly limiting his value. To get a 28 year-old starting center who grabs offensive boards and defends the rim well is an absolute coup for the washed up Rose.

W.T.F? Derrick Rose? In the name of Truck Robinson, Bernard King, Antonio McDyess, Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, what is Jackson thinking?
I think Derrick Rose may be a nail in Phil Jackson's coffin with the NYKs.

Must spead rep. Mainly for Truck Robinson! reference. My Grandma and me used to watch meaningless Knicks games every night in the Truck Robinson, Louis Orr, Michael Ray Richardson era. Agree with this post Jack Kerr and the one above that said getting R.Lopez is a coup. His contract is going to look mighty nice after FA. Also, Jerian Grant is a nice flyer. Rose is done.

There's no reason for us not be be interested in both Beverly and McDaniels. Both are on great contracts. It just depends what Houston is looking for in return... I suspect they're shooting for what would essentially be salary dumps as they ramp up their pursuit of Durant.

@WojVerticalNBA: Brooklyn has traded forward Thad Young to the Indiana Pacers for the 20th pick and a future 2nd rounder, league sources tell @TheVertical.
@ZachLowe_NBA: I'm not sure what the overall vision is for the Pacers, but two prime years of Young (player option in Year 3) is good value for No. 20.
@ZachLowe_NBA: Hunch is Indy has moved on from Mahinmi, will immediately transition to Turner as starting C. Defense will be interesting w/ Teague/Monta.

@WojVerticalNBA: Oklahoma City has traded Serge Ibaka to the Orlando Magic, league sources told @TheVertical.
@WojVerticalNBA: Orlando will send Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and rights to Sabonis to the Thunder, sources said.
@ESPNStatsInfo: The Thunder reportedly agree to trade Serge Ibaka to the Magic. Ibaka's ability as a shot blocker has declined:
15-16: 1.9
14-15: 2.4
13-14: 2.7
12-13: 3.0
11-12: 3.7

Obama needs to be unleashed as a small-ball center. I hope whoever trades for him (if anyone) does it with that in mind.

I'm guessing you meant Ibaka, because Obama is too short to play center... And too old... And too busy.

OMG absolute steal for the Thunder.
Westbrook
Oladipo
Durant
Ilyasova
Adams/ Kanter
is potent. Oladipo (wing defensive stopper) is extremely valuable in today's NBA.

Wow, Thunder fleeced the Magic in that trade. Just shows what having a great team means in terms of doing trades.
