I bet it's a SNT. Wonder what their needs are. I bet they could use some DoJones!

Holy cow, that came out of nowhere. But I love it. Might not make us contenders, but we're definitely going to be much-improved over next year. I wonder if this involves the sign-and-trade that sends Terry to Boston? Possible that we send out Vince/Roddy to Memphis?

Front office put together a really nice off season after the Deron disappointment. Cuban got perfect deals from every target, just incredible. I actually think this roster can contend, call me crazy:
PG Collison/West(Re-sign?)/Beaubois
SG Mayo/Carter/Beaubois/Cunningham
SF Marion/Carter/Crowder
PF Nowitzki/Brand/Wright
C Kaman/Brand/Wright/James
A surprising amount of depth and talented youth. 50+ wins and a noise maker in the West is not out of the question at all. If Dirk comes in fit and can score efficiently after a fall off last year this team will be very fun to watch.

And we still keep cap flexibility for next year. Cuban is a genius.

Indeed I was a fool to be panicked early when the free agency period began.
I bow to the Dallas front office. I am not worthy.

Posters on insidehoops are saying 1-year deal... can't find a source though.
Caplan saying it's multiyear.

Caplan says it's a multiyear deal. It's gotta either be a 2yr deal with a player option or part of a sign and trade. Either that or we just got one hell of a bargain. Of the remaining free agents, he was my second choice behind only Courtney Lee. Huge signing.

Don't think it can be a SnT. Memphis doesn't have cash to sign him, I don't think.

Am told Mayo deal is multiyear, but not sure how long. Mavs had about $4M in cap space.

Woot!!!!
I'm actually pretty damn happy about the moves made within a week span, really good stuff. Since we will not see what this team will be like until things start, can't really say if they are contenders or not. But i really like the direction the team is going, the sky is the limit with good youth + veterans around Dirk.

I hope it is a S&T and the Mavs ship out Dojo or some other spare part.
Mavs got infinitely younger, more penetration, and athletic this offseason.

This is fantastic! I gave up on this possibility quite awhile ago. I really hope it is a multi-year contract. With the right coaching (and RC is the right coach) the ceiling for Mayo is through the stratosphere. Again, I really hope this is a multi-year contract.

Isn't Mayo friends with Dwight? I wonder if there's a hidden angle to this as well.....

Mayo's an average player. His PER numbers are nothing exciting but he fills a need and he could always grow up a little and blossom.

This. He's a starter and he's young. Not great but not bad to start with. Add the play with Dirk effect and we should have something.

His first 2 years were fantastic, he was on his way to be Kobe-lite, a very good player, with numerous all-star appearances. Then something went wrong, but the ability is there. I think the FO sold him on us with telling him how he would start, how he could be our second scoring option, (something that probably few other team could provide to him) and with a possible good playoff run, he could revitalize his value, and sign a big, long contract with somebody, as early as next summer. And that's probably not a bad option for him, his last 2 years were terrible. He needs to put himself back together again, and hopefully he'll do that, and in style.

To paraphrase "40-Year-Old Virgin," stop putting PER on a pedestal.
Maybe he's an average starting two guard, but he's much more than an average player. Willie Green and Anthony Morrow are average players. Mayo is a legitimate starting shooting guard, and honestly, that's a breath of fresh air.

For those of us who lean more towards Mavericks fan than NBA fan, can someone give a rundown of Mayo's game?

ok i ve been a mayo fan since he was in middle school. i will give you the rundown on everything mayo. ive seen him play the majority of his games. Elite shooter! in a starting role(with the red light and not looking over his shoulder) he will remind you of a young gilbert arenas or michael redd. a lot of people dont think of him (or those guys initally) as elite because they are not big leapers and make sportscenter(a la lebron james) every night. i believe in a starting consistent role on this team Mayo can average 20-5-5. Mayo is a special player and has been preparing for this role since high school(big moments are nothing to him have seen him hit plenty of clutch shot and is clutch free throw maker also). he is a hardworker(gym rat type) that has swag, toughness, and leadership ability. memphis coach did him a diservice that has lead people to believe he is a 6th man at best. he is a STARTER in this league you can book that. his defense is good he pressures the ball and has decent footwork. obviously he is only 6-4 but in my opinion that is big enough to guard a 6-6 guy you just have to be diciplined and hardworking(which he is). this year will be mayo's coming out party(hopefully all star) and the basketball world will take notice.

I don't think this necessarily seals the fate for Delonte in a bad way. I think you see Roddy play in his comfort zone as the 2 (off the bench). That still leaves a major need for a PG.

Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears reported on Sunday that the free agent Mayo had also drawn interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago Bulls and Phoenix Suns. The Suns had been expected to make a strong push after losing out on restricted free agent Eric Gordon, whose offer sheet was matched by the New Orleans Hornets.
The 24-year-old Mayo earned $5.6 million last season with the Memphis Grizzlies, and terms of the deal weren’t immediately disclosed. He averaged 12.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game last season with the Grizzlies.
The Mavericks have claimed forward Elton Brand off waivers and signed center Chris Kaman and now Mayo after losing out on their biggest free-agent target, Brooklyn Nets guard Deron Williams. They also lost guards Jason Terry to the Boston Celtics and Jason Kidd to the New York Knicks in free agency.

This is probably what they should have done in the first place. D-Will would have tied their hands such that they couldn't have done all these recent deals. That was my concern with Williams in the first place. He's nice and all...but is he worth like five other players?
