Josh Green
Spencer Dinwiddie

Josh Green has been really impressive. If he can continue to improve his shooting he is perfect. His energy, his effort, REBOUNDS (killing it this game), dude is all over the place.
Bertrans gave us some SOLID effort this game even when his 3 wasn't falling.
Spencer the New Don Widdie. He is absolutely on a tear as of late.
I remember being so mad we traded KP. Bertrans and SD have made me believers.

Dinwiddie is giving the production that THJ should've been giving as 6th man

Even with the refs blowing this one thus far... We have to be proud. Our boys are playing without our best players. I haven't seen many teams like this come back from a huge deficit. We are a few plays away from some magic.

WTF was that call!?!?!?!!?!? That should have been out of bounds on Holmes. That was in no way a foul on Spencer.

OK I don't like complaining about the refs but that was a clear travel on Fox too. What is happening?

What a game! Dude this team is the real deal. They play hard for Kidd! We are truly witnessing something amazing with this squad. We are a center away from beating nearly unbeatable.

They are just different ever since KP was traded. Most confident I’ve felt going into the playoffs since 2011 and the Monta Ellis season

I would agree!
Looked at the box score and our man Josh Green had 6 D Rebs and 6 Off Rebounds. Had a better rebounding game than I remember KP having lol. This team is trending the right direction at the absolute perfect time.

Great Mavs win! Good contribution from Josh Green. And Dinwiddie has been doing good as well. DFS has been stepping it up these last few games.

Dinwiddie continues to impress me because of his willingness to drive the ball late in games.
That is the biggest difference I'm seeing because they had so many guys who would just settle for 3's and ignore driving to the rim late in close games.
They finally have someone who consistently attacks the rim

Late? He drove damn near every possession. I almost wanted him to take more jumpers, but I'm sure glad he didn't.
He seems to have a high iq. Drive the ball until the cows come home. And then drive some more. Love it.

SD seems to be the exact aggressive combo guard we were looking for. I was so wrong about him.

out of his 11 FG's made
Seven! 7 were straight up just layups. Only one was out of a post up where he made a nice drop step. The rest was driving to the hoop.
that doesn't even include the drives that ended in FT's where he made 12-13.
2 were floaters inside the paint
2 were 3pointers.
On another note, Bertans actually had some decent defensive plays including a nice block. I was more impressed by him aggressively attacking a close out and driving to the rim (he missed the layup), grabbing a rebound and leading the break with a nice pass to Green for the dunk, and a nice pass on a kickout to Green for a 3ptr.

How many times in years past have we screamed at players like THJ in the same situations jack up a 3 even if a lane was wide open for a layup?
The injury to THJ created a domino effect because it forced the Mavs to give more minutes to Green, allowed Bullock to play a more comfortable role and then led to the trade of Dinwiddie because they wanted to replace THJ's offense.
IMO all 3 of those players contribute so much more than THJ which is why his resigning was a big mistake. BTW if memory serves me right, they could have taken a chance on Dinwiddie last summer for less money than THJ is getting.

"I do what I do and I don't do what I'm not supposed to do," Dinwiddie said. "That goes one through 15. Everybody here follows that type of mentality because we understand to win basketball games not just in the regular season but to win in the playoffs, you need that."
This is the absolute polar opposite of how Rick coached. Love it.

While this is an obvious yes at this point, just remember it took the Mavs years before figuring out that they needed to get Luka another high caliber ball handler. There was nary a Mavs fan that wasn't trolling the FO to get Luka some damn help in that dept.
Mavs might not have had to trade KP had they just gone after Dinwiddie or Derozan this past summer instead of keeping THJ.
I view KP as the fallout of that contract as much as anything. Maybe you still move on from KP eventually anyway, but the Mavs desperately need that shot blocking.
Good news is I do think they can get some sort of shot blocker this summer. We shall see.

Hopefully they can replace the void at C with Myles Turner this offseason.
I think if they can somehow find a way to move THJ and land Turner they might be in business next year as a true contender.
Seems like he was their original target before both him and THJ each got injured.

You gave good news, but I'll give the best news. We don't have the same FO or coach. I think they'll be a little more aggressive in pursuit of additional help.
On Dinwiddie, I'm not so sure we could have swung a deal. I'm curious the moves that the Mavs would have had to make. Seems like we could match the two 2nd rounders and get close to the $11.5M trade exception (can't recall how big ours was at the time), but they also traded another 2nd rounder and their 1st round pick to San Antonio (Chandler Hutchinson) which would have meant departing with Josh Green, arguably fine at the time but might be blessing in disguise if he continues to improve. They also appear to have rerouted the 1st rounder they got from the Lakers in the Westbrook deal to the Pacers. It's a long and confusing transaction, but I am not saying the Mavs could not have figured something out, it would have been very difficult.
Edit: I also think cap issues would have restricted Mavs moves, resigning THJ or renouncing rights, either way.
