Pink Floyd reurns!!!!!!!
Holy Crap!
For those of you that are fans of the Floyd, Roger Waters is joining back up for the Live 8 concert on July 2. All of the original members will be there.
They haven't played together since '81.
Here's to hoping they tour after that.

Of course I meant "returns" on the topic heading.
Also, here's a link.

RE: Pink Floyd reurns!!!!!!!
Syd Barrett won't be there, and so it won't really be a true reunion. Barrett was the best and most gifted of the founding members. Their stuff was never the same after they fired him.

If by never the same, you mean went from good psychedelica to some of the most beautiful prog-rock ever made, I agree, their stuff was never the same. It was better.

I have no problem with Syd, Astronomy Domine is pretty kick ass, but that dude flaked out from drugs and supposedly went way looney. It's not like they didn't like the guy and fired him...he just left mentally and physically. Stopped showing up to the gigs. So they brought Gilmour in incase Barrett was a no-show. Wish You Were Here was about missing Syd. Wishing he was there along for the ride. I'm sure you know all this. And I'm also sure you know Floyd would NEVER have been as bad-assed if Syd remained as their front man. Waters with his in depth poetry, and Gilmour with his amazing guitar and smokey voice is what made this band. Barrett was just an old friend with an idea.
Roger tried bringing in "all-stars" to replace David when he went solo. But the sound was never the same.
David kept the band and had a similar sound, but never had the insightful and misty lyrics (or Roger's slightly psychotic voice). A shell of the former Floyd.
Together again. It's like the Beatles reuniting. Hopefully it won't be for just one show.

though i respect pink floyd and think they're a great band, no bands reunion can EVER be compared to what it would be like if the Beatles could reunite.

Yeah, you're probably right, but for me it goes like this:
1a) Beatles
1b) Pink Floyd
3) Led Zeppelin
4) Stones
5) The Doors

So, did anyone watch Pink Floyd at Live 8? I though it was pretty awesome. David Gilmore is God!

RE: Pink Floyd reurns!!!!!!!
I absolutely loved it. I was emotionally overwhelmed by how good the performance ended up being. Gilmour was freaking amazing. His voice sounded perfect, and he nailed his solos. It was almost spiritual how much I got into it.
And then MTV decided to cut away to two lame ass announcers during the middle of one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, and then cut away before the performance was over. F*** MTV. Luckily I got to watch it on AOL music.

RE: Pink Floyd reurns!!!!!!!
Would it be callous for me to admit that when I first read the thread title I thought that somehow the members of Pink Floyd had died AGAIN?
