Mavs/Lakers Postgame Thread...suck it fakers
No Damp and No Butler...no problem
We have a rejuvenated Jason Kidd.
We have a very good center.
We have Dirk.
Did you see how happy Dirk was in the post game interview...he is so pumped! And that gets me pumped!

Looks like we finally got ourselves A REAL consistent big man who we can actually rely on night in and out. And most important stat of the night:
Barea - 4:59
Barea with less than 5 minutes = a win for the Mavs

The more I see of Haywood...the more I realize this guy is a way better basketball player than Damp.
How great is it to have a center that getting 3+ blocks isn't an insane rarity?

I love Haywood's game. I love the fact we don't have to be reliant on Dampier anymore. That's the biggest gift that could've came in that Wiz trade. Sure we could've used a 2 guard but Haywood was the real piece we needed to compete in this league. Especially with our sometimes suspect perimeter defense. But even Stevenson seems to look to be an upgrade on that front. I just appreciate the consistency from Haywood. There's no question that Dampier can play. The question is will he play tonight. Will he play the next game. Its just too inconsistent and it seems to be more about the want to play.

Its no slam on Damp...but Damp is a poor offensive player, and Haywood is actually good.

Well, yes, and he went 3-4 at the line tonight. That is a huge upgrade over Damp. Those few points he gets at the line will win you several games.

now in the proper place for discussion:
Haywood is 3,5% better than Damp for the season, but their FT career numbers are about the same. That's anything but a huge upgrade.
That being said, I love Haywood too.

Co-signed.
Edit: You can add Kidd with 14/13/7... and fantastic defense by Marion and Stevenson on Kobe. And Haywood is really dominating the paint.

When Jet is on a good streak...he is so explosive.
We HAVE to get Damp back...Eddie out there is just a failure waiting to happen. He tries hard, but will just get so badly punked.

not that it will come to play in seeding...but it always good to beat LA.
this game is by far the most important of the year between these two teams...its all about what the Mavs can do after the trade.
How amazing is it that we got rid of Josh Howard's pot haze and got back 3 important players?!

Just think of all the wasted time we've gone through with waiting out Josh
If you don't trust JJ or Roddy, continue the crafty shifting and play Jet at the point...now you have a defensive counter that gives you extra minutes (Stevenson). He can cover up the potential lack of defense you get with Jet and could be a remote threat from range. I think Stevenson showed he can give you some minutes and you can possibly save Kidd from having to play some many minutes.
This can definitely be a massive momentum builder for the Mavs, but they gotta know the banner isn't in the mail, they've got work to do.

Huge win for our beloved Mavs!
Everyone did their part. From Dirk and JET shooting well, Kidd orchestrating, Haywood keeping himself out of foul trouble while playing good offense/defense, Shawn and Stevenson were great too!!! Total team effort.
I love this team.

How are you feeling now about their chances?
Just thought I'd give a little poke right there.
I'm really interested to see Damp and Haywood together. That position is going to be as solid as it's ever been. I'm not really sure how Damp will work when they weave their bigs in the paint, the lateral movement with Damp has me concerned a bit.
Props to Stevenson and Marion doing work on Kobe...they made things very difficult.

How about Brendan Haywood with his 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks?
The fact that we don't have to double their bigs anymore is absolutely pivotal.
The defense tonight was brilliant. Stevenson is simply going to carve a spot for himself on this team. He provides a ton of hustle, really nice size and good defense on the perimeter.
This is a game where you can really sense the Mavs could give this Lakers team a problem. All of a sudden the Mavs look like a pretty big, physical team. God... how much did that trade rock? And we didn't even have Caron Butler tonight!
There's a reason to wear a large smile right now in Dallas. We beat the Lakers, and we beat them with a healthy squad. That's a huge statement game for us.

Pleasantly surprised with Stevenson's defense. I think his conditioning isn't up to par yet but if can make layups from time to time and defend the opposition's scoring wing players, he'll be a useful asset in the playoffs. To think that nobody thought he was anything more than filler in the trade. On the nights when Marion/Butler are in foul trouble, he'll definitely be useful on the defensive end.

11/9/5 is huge from Haywood. Outplayed Bynum who had 10/10/5 (TO).

The thing that really stands out to me with Haywood vs Damp is how mobile Haywood is compared to Damp. Haywood's all arms too.
Regardless, Damp is going to be a STRONG backup, and I love where our center rotation will be come playoffs

Twitter @ EarlKSneed: Do Lakers fan travel or are they all transplanted into every city? Ain't that the truth?
Imagine once Damp comes back...Happy bday to Roddy! Congrats to Carroll on your second kid and what an amazing win!

I hated the fact that there were so many lakers fans the last game we played them. They even booed Damp when he was shooting free throws. And as we left after the game, they were loud and bragging about how great they are. I wish I could have been there to see them leave tonight.

Haywood somehow stayed out of foul trouble till the beginning of the 4th quarter and then had the opportunity to play hard nose defense...that was huge.
All those Wizards fans kept saying that he has low bb IQ...after watching him playing for our franchise, i have to say: " Dear Wizards fans, I don´t think so"

How absolutely GREAT was that. Having a guy who understands that he has to be on the court at the end of games and that getting quick silly fouls hurts the team. GREATNESS!!! I was so impressed. Sure Bynum made it tough on us early but the 4th qtr is WINNING TIME. And that's when you have to be around.
Gosh...I'm gushing...0 fouls until the fourth and then bynum didn't get squat!!!!
All I can say is Let's Go...
