Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
I love dirk but Brand is the guy we need, someone who score in the lowpost, rebound like crazy and block and therefore play great defense.Dirk is great but he can't play a lick of D,a big reason why Denver came back to win the other night. With Brand we would really have that inside, outside game...that could lead us to a title
or if we don't trade dirk for him then try
jamison,walker,fortson,best for brand and filler

He is on a very young team, they need time..Maggette and Q will be stars but still young..they have been re-building..including had injury problems
don't blame Brand that they have not made the playoffs
20,12 and 2 blocks a game...is great

maybe we should trade the entire team for Brand - or we could simply throw this thread into the trades board and forget it ever existed...

RE: Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
None of that is doable cause of cap issues. All the Mavs are all paid more than Brand, and no amount of "filler" will balance such a trade. And the Clipps owner aint taking on a pile of salary no matter what you offer.
Look elsewhere.

Once again, Brand is a good player on a bad team. Can he be this good in Dallas? Can you work out the salaries while you're at that? Dirk= $11,000,000. Jamison, Walker, Fortson, Best = $31,000,000. Brand =$10,000,000. You pointed out why dallas does this trade. Why do the Clippers do this trade? What makes you think the Clippers would want to take on a player with a salary higher than any of their own players? Why do you think the Clippers are still 5 games away from .500? Why can't they ever make the playoffs? How about we trade for shareef abdur-rahim then?

Believe it or not, Brand may be the only player not named Shaq/Duncan/Garnett/J.O'neal that I would TRADE WALKER for.
Yes, you heard right.
Elton Brand would give us that Big-Time post-up MONSTER down low that we need to play the halfcourt properly. I'd hate to see Toine go but I am not blind to see that Elton will help this Mavs team TREMENDOUSLY.
Oh and on a completely unrelated note :

RE:Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
Dirk is the most "untouchable" player on this team. He is a freak of nature. Have you noticed how many other teams have tried to find the next Dirk (i.e. Gasol, Darko, etc.)? Don't get me wrong Brand is a nice player - almost an All-Star. But, there are only 2 or 3 players in the entire league that I consider trading Dirk for - and even then I'm not sure I pull the trigger.

No, actually you can't post whatever the hell you want at least not for very long. We have rules and standards on this board. aexchange, myself, and the other mods are responsible for enforcing them. All members are responsible for adhering to these rules and standards. This thread correctly belongs in the Trade and Draft forum.

Bigdaddy must be a clippers fan. If Dirk goes, Nash will follow and you know where Kobe is headed? I'll go to the clippers as fan and wish the mavs good luck in trying to make the playoffs again .... in 2010.

RE:Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
Setting the salary issue aside for arguments sake, Brand can NEVER be better than Nowitzki.
Why you ask?
I love Elton Brand. I would love for his post-up game and interior defense to be on a Maverick stat sheet, but would I want it to replace with Dirk Nowtitzki's 3-pointers, defensive rebounding, shoot-over-almost-any-defender-18' jumpshots? That would be an emphatic hell no.
Basically, it boils down to this, can Elton Brand ever be a 7-footer that shoots 3-pointers consistently? Nope.
Can Dirk learn to post-up and play better defense? Some may argue the latter point, but I think he has only begun to utilize his post-up moves and is improving every year.
TRADE DECLINED.

Ok heres what settles the argument for me. While brand is a great player he is not a clutch one. With 2 minutes to go who would u rahter have to bring u back in it. Dirk or Brand.
Exactly

Though I agree with your bottomline point (that is Dirk being preferrable to Elton), I'm not sure Duke fans would agree that Elton Brand wasn't clutch. And, though I don't have the facts to backup it up, I'm sure Clipper fans would be able to find games in which Brand made the last shot in games.
All in all, I know what you're trying to say, which is Dirk is better than Brand.

As much as I hate to say it, I believe this trade would make us a true contenders cause it gives us Defense inside.
This team will never win the big one until Our best player can play D.

RE:Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
I disagree Adam. I have heard that point made here before, but I believe if Dirk were surrounded by above average defenders, then Dirk wouldn't have to be the primary defensive threat for the Mavs to be successful.
The example I would use would be when Bradley has shown some above average play this year, Bradley was the primary defensive threat, and Dirk could exert more effort on the offensive-side. Case in point when he scored 43 in Seattle. So, if we can get a big man who can play more reliable defense than Bradley (by that I mean consistently), then the Mavs player (that being Dirk) doesn't have to be the best defender either.

RE: Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
If you had to make a list of the most 'untouchable' players in the league, I wouldn't think that Dirk would be much lower than 5th or 6th.
Dirk for Brand? I don't think some of you realize just how badly losing Dirk would affect this team especially on the offense. Even when the ball isn't running through Dirk, he is the key to making this team click on the offensive end.
As for Defense, well yeah, Brand would be an obvious upgrade. However, you put Brand in with this teams porous perimeter defense at times, and it would just be a matter of games before people were b!tching about his defense down low.

Trade Nash and Jamison for Brand. Nash is my favorite player but, he would be good trade bait. They want a point guard and he is a free agent during off-season. So we can bring him back for next season and cut Jamison salary

just my opinion
there are 3 untouchable guys in the league- garnett, duncan and shaq..jermaine is slowly getting there with the way he's been playing defense..he's the reason indiana is a threat to the west(yes, more than artest)
everyone else can be moved for the right price

Losing Nash would be just as disasterous for the offense as losing Dirk would. And there would be no possibilty of signing Nash next year if he is traded. There are no possible trades for Brand that would be worth it for the Mavs.

This is my first reply, remark or anything so, Im happy to be here. But it looks like you guys started this website in 99'. Dirk was drafted in 98'. So we wouldnt be having this discussion on this website if it wasnt for the 7 foot superstar. Keep the big 3 (Dirty Dirk, Nasty Nash, n' Filthy Fin) and do whatever to the rest. Trade and Dirk should never be in the same sentence. Clippers would go all the way if this trade goes down.

RE: Lets try and trade dirk for Elton Brand..
I totally agree with Samoan. You can't separate the success of the last few years from Dirk. And he is much more than just a great player. He is a symbol of the new mavs. I guess about 500 of the members in this forum are dirk fans and will be strongly opposed to trading dirk. Brand maybe better in various aspects of the game but he is not compared to duncan and KG or Larry Bird. If Dirk goes, all the fun of watching the mavs will go as well. The run and gun. The 3-pointers. The Nash and Dirk story. And eventually the succes as well.

Elton Brand is a cool guy, and he's a baller, but dont trade away Dirk. He is the team and how many three point shooting 7 footers are there, ummm i dunno, 1!!! but theres a lot of low post scorers and i would like to see dallas send bad shooting antoine walker to get one.

Cuban would laugh this deal off the table if it were offered to him.....
Brand is a special player...a wonderful player......a great player with a all-star laced career ahead of him
Dirk is the only guy Larry actually compared to himself.... and that is that.

Dirk is my favorie player but I wouldn't necessarily say trading him is out of the question... but I wouldn't trade Dirk for Elton Brand. Isn't Brand almost 30? Not to mention smaller? He is a great inside player for his size but if we wanted to play a inside slower tempo game I think Dirk could be just as good right now if not better.
We should put together a list of players we might trade Dirk for... so far I can only think of 1.. 2 tops... Duncan and if he can continue to finally be clutch like he has to this point in the season -- KG. Other than that I wouldn't trade Dirk for anyone else.
