Actually the Pagans have that honor, but Hitler was the first to nationalize it...

The quote above was from Winston Churchill, although, for some odd reason, it has been linked to Orwell. The irony being that it directly contradicts Orwell's overall assessment of hierarchy and violence. But a fine example of Newspeak, nonetheless.

I hope everyone can take a second to think and realize how important and significant the death of Osama Bin Laden is. This is f*cking HUGE. One can say without hyperbole that this dramatically effects the political climate of the entire world. This completely changes the terms US-foreign relations regarding the "War On Terror." Events that have this kind of far-reaching and long-term political ramifications only happen once or twice per generation. This is the beginning of the end of an era. This is earth-shattering. I just hope everyone appreciates this moment in history for what it is.

This is so historic people will remember where they were when they heard the news.
The child in me can't help but think of a line from the opening theme to the old G.I. Joe cartoon when I think of the brave men who pulled this off.
"He never gives up he'll stay until the fights won."

It feels like there should be a whole thread devoted to what should have happened to him instead of a mere bullet but I think it would get very filthy and 4-Chan within the first post.

Doesn't make a difference in the end - he's dead. Dead is dead, done.
The Boogey Man is no more...

Hard to complain about the increment of justice when it took almost a decade to administer - you can't suddenly question "how much?" when yesterday you were wondering "if ever..."

Somber and bittersweet. The cost, the lives, the soldiers, the civilians...the pure senselessness of the past decade.
Pleased with the news, justice is done. However, somber and sad as I reflect on the past decade.
Major praise to President Obama, President Bush and all those who have served and continues to serve. This is NOT a moment to be political, but rather a moment to unite as Americans.
Although a substantial victory in the fight on terror, there is still much much much more to do. Freedom must be defended and thanks to the countless Men and Women of our Armed Forces, she indeed will be defended to her utmost.
Tonight, I am pleased to hear that one of our enemies is gone, but again, I am reminded of the cost and I am saddened and I grieve the price that has been paid as a result of our enemies.

The Morning Musers pointed out some interesting things concerning Obama and Bin Laden. They thought it was a very bad move by Obama when he repeatedly used the term "I" instead of "we" or "us" when discussing the killing of Bin Laden. And yeah, that was coming from two flaming liberals. (Gordo and Craig Miller)

He was in a million dollar swank mansion which happened to be sitting next door to Pakistan's equivalent of West Point.

Three blocks from a police station, and with no cable or internet hookups.

In what sounds like an extremely conspicuous house (razor wire around it, no windows visible from surrounding area, 8x as big as other houses in the area).
It seems likely (practically certain?!) that some heavy hitting elements of Pakistani intelligence were harboring Bin Laden while taking billions and billions of $ from us ostensibly to find Bin Laden...pretty nice work if you can get it.
