2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread
Damion James in is a beast! That didn't really fit anywhere else so I figured I'd start a thread.
Very entertaining game in Austin today and James' 23 point second half performance was the definition of carrying a team.
OT I hate the college basketball rule that counts a tech as a personal foul. That influenced the game as Byron Davis fouled out in overtime on a tech. They only give you five as it is...stupid rule.
In other news Jordan Crawford, the kid that dunked on Lebron, looks like he could turn into a pretty good player. Hit some amazing shots to hold off Dayton today.

Great performance by Damion tonight and the Horns move on to 17-0. Fantastic stuff for us down here.

I saw Damion James one time before his freshman year at the Global Games. Always thought the dude was going to be a major player.

That must have been the one year i missed the Global Games because I don't remember seeing him there.
I do remember thinking his freshman season that while he had some ability he didn't look like a high school All American. Of course It's hard to shine playing next to Durant and Augustin. He's make noticeable improvement every year since then. I think he went from a probable second rounder last year to a top 20 prospect.

Yeah, he was there the same year Durant was there (so right before both of their freshman seasons). James wasn't an overwhelming talent at the time, but I just loved the way he played.

Suck it, Ricky. I know we didn't get your approval to beat your asses in Austin, but we don't care.

That's 4 in a row, Ricky. Eat it, you pathetic, spineless chump. You just can't stand to see us cross your line, you entitled, arrogant sack of crap.
Also, Damion James didn't get the memo that screaming all the time doesn't actually keep your team from sucking.

EDIT: Also, Section 116, row JJ, seat 19. Houston, ho!

That's certainly open to debate. But still, I'm rooting for the Bears the rest of the way.

I love that St. Mary's team. I got them going to the Sweet 16 in my bracket. Georgetown screwed me though.

I'm unashamed of my alma mater for the first time since that idiot Chuck Reedy replaced the greatness of Grant Teaff.

I know about loyalty, but the Chuck Reedy days really soured me....that whole thing that happened with the basketball program a few years coming on the tail of a decade of futility in football. Maybe I've always been loyal, just preferred to keep my loyalty in the closet.

Bears looking a lot less intimidated by the bright lights today than they did v. mighty Sam Houston in round 1.

Nice season by Baylor. I hope Butler wins it all. That'd be awesome/hilarious.

Duke leads by 10 points with 4 minutes left in the game. Butler plays stifling D to make a furious comeback. A layup by Shelvin Mack with 5 seconds left pulls Butler to within a point. The crowd is going wild on one end and is silent on the other. Butler needs something magical to happen. Jon Scheyer runs around for a few seconds trying to get the inbounds pass, knowing that Butler will try to foul him immediately should he receive the pass. Unfortunately for Duke, Scheyer can't get open and Kyle Singler becomes the second option. Singler is able to get open for a split second, but that's all he needs. Brian Zoubek passes in to Singler. BUT OH NO, the pass is low and Singler can't get his hands on it cleanly. The ball ricochets off his knee and directly to Gordon Hayward, who frantically kisses the ball off the glass for a one point lead with just two seconds remaining. Duke has no timeouts remaining, as they used their final one to keep a possession alive about a minute earlier. Boy do they wish they had that timeout now. Coach K is yelling instructions from his tiny mouth by the sidelines, waving to the left, to the right, backwards, forwards! Zoubek stalls as he picks the ball up out of bounds under the basket. His pass catches Nolan Smith in stride as he streaks towards half court. One second on the clock! Smith hurls a desperation heave from 50 feet that sails wide of the basket by about 10 feet. BUTLER WINS. The TV cameras zoom around the crowd to pick up the celebration and depression. They find Christian Laettner, who has his hand over his face. The cameras zoom back to the court, where they focus on Scheyer, pulling an Adam Morrison at mid court. They zoom to Coach K's face as he watches another coach half his age jump into a pile of players not much younger than he. Singler tries to comfort Scheyer, but he waves off his teammate as he rolls around on the court, sobbing and banging his fists on the hard surface, not caring if he hurts his hands. Finally Scheyer sits upright, with his face buried in his knees. Matt Howard approaches him to offer a routine "good game." Scheyer gives a slight nod before resuming his hysterical calls to a God that frowned upon him and his teammates on this Monday night. Why God, why? Why does my career have to end like this? It was OUR time! What happened?
BUTLER HAPPENED
Butler 60
Duke 59

I can't bear to see Duke win a championship. I'm hoping that Butler manages to rip Duke's hearts out tonight.
