The OFFICIAL 2010 Dallas Cowboys Dumping Ground
This news doesn't belong in the head coach thread, so I made a new thread for everything else Cowboys-related:
Quote:
Tony Romo is candidate for IR
link
The Cowboys are on the verge of making a roster move and it could involved any numbers of players, including quarterback Tony Romo.
This potential move is a result of the injuries along the defensive line. Marcus Spears (calf), Sean Lissemore (ankle) and Jason Hatcher (groin) are out for an undetermined length of time, and the Cowboys need to find some depth at this position.
As it stands now, Jay Ratliff, Igor Olshansky, Stephen Bowen and Josh Brent are the only healthy defensive linemen. Brent, Ratliff and Bowen can play both line positions, but it wore Ratliff and Brent down in Sunday's loss at Green Bay.
The Cowboys are looking at lineman Jeremy Clark to add depth. He was with the Arizona Cardinals but released before the start of the regular season.
If the Cowboys add Clark or anybody else to the active roster, someone has to either get cut or placed on injured reserve. Though he wouldn't want it to happen, Romo is a candidate for IR because he's out until late December with a broken collarbone.
Putting Romo on the IR, instead of hoping for his return late in the season, would send a message that the Cowboys are saying the season is over, though it is already evident with the firing of Wade Phillips.
What might happen is the Cowboys cut an underachieving young player such as Leon Williams or Brandon Williams.

It's a complete joke that he's not already on IR.

It's amazing how much better the defense looks this week compared to last week.
Jon Kitna has an arm, eh?

Great blocking on the Felix run. Strange to see such a thing out of this offensive line.

Especially, after Jenkins gets injured with Newman already out. McCann's like, "I got this, don't worry about the secondary."

Indeed he was. They went light at corner with the final 53, putting only three on the team. He may have been the fifth corner at any rate. Great to see him contributing now. Local boy done good!

Skins DJ pissed off on the air. Makes you think that one loss was worse than the Cowboys' entire season.

As much as I hate the Skins, I think all of us can somewhat relate.
That being said, lol@theredskins.

Hard to say because either team has a tendency to choke under pressure, but I'd go with the Eagles.
They look scary-good right now.

Hm, s.i. has the Eagles by 10 and my picking team has ~10 EAG - 2 NYG. I went with the Giants, but i am all but sure.
The prob is, i have to defend my 3rd spot against 11 or 12 US-guys...

Are any of you scared that the Cowboys will do just well enough to keep Jerry from getting a new coach? I like to call it "pulling a JJB".

I think that's already the case. Even if they lose every game left this season, I think there's about a 90% chance that Garret will be the coach next year.

I'm not scared of that happening, because I like what I'm seeing from Red Tuna. He is my preferred option, for now.

I'm conflicted when it comes to Garrett. I get kinda the same impression of him that I had of Avery Johnson when he took over for the Mavs. I have no doubt that he can motivate guys assert his authority. I am however not confident in his game-planning or game-management skills.

The next couple of weeks will be Garrett's real test. He has done a pretty good job these first two weeks. Granted the first win was almost all NY losing the game rather than Dallas winning it, but this one wasn't. This was a good game and a solid victory. Sure, it was Detroit, but as Dallas has proven week in and week out - any good team can be beat by inferior competition due to the dumb.
I still stand by my feelings though - winning x games is DUMB if x doesn't equal 9. They still have a chance to get a top 5 pick if Kitna comes back down to earth, but the top spot is likely impossible with 3 wins now. I see it quite difficult for Carolina to reach that mark. Eh well, my luck is we win 8 or so games, miss the playoffs, have an average draft that could have been spectacular BUT get the good news of keeping Garrett.
Win.

I know exactly how you feel. The good news is the rest of the schedule is pretty merciless.
New Orleans
Indianapolis
Philadelphia
Washington
Arizona
Philadelphia
I can't imagine the Cowboys getting to 8 wins with that schedule. I'd say 5, MAYBE 6.

I think you are missing part of the picture here with your all or nothing attitude. In order to lose out, this team would have had to continue to suck royally. That's really not a good thing because it means you have a ton of holes that likely need filling. Look at what's happened these past two weeks. We've had a revelation in a guy like Bryan McCann. Sean Lee has finally started to live up to his draft status. Orlando Scandrick has gotten over his horrendous start and begun to look like he did back as a promising rookie. Dez continues to look more and more like a blossoming superstar. Kitna looks like a guy that you are comfortable with as a backup next year despite turning 39 years old. I saw some decent play out of guys like Hatcher and Church as well.
These are all revelations that likely wouldn't be happening if we continued to get blown out on our way to a number one pick. If we keep winning, it's because we've had lesser-known guys actually step up and show a little something. If some of these players continue to prove that they have a little something, I'm going to be much happier than I would if we revert to the days of getting blown out. Also, let's not kid ourselves here. You can hit in a big way on a pick in the 11-15 range. Just ask DeMarcus Ware.

Just finished watching the tape delay game. A couple of thoughts on the cowboys..
- This is a much tougher team now then they were before. The 4th and 1s and the short yardages were really good stuff.
- Really unfortunate for Roy Williams to lose the team the game like that, and unfortunately it's all on him.
- Beuhler sucks.
- Wade Phillips defensive team kinda sucks.
- Strange to never try and get the ball to dez. I thing garrett out-smarted himself, but hell how can I bitch, he was one roy williams brain fart from winning this one.
Jerry won't find a better head coach imo, and getting a new dude who somehow gets a team to play tougher is a good.

Why does Buehler suck? He nailed two field goals, had several touchbacks, and missed a 60 yard field goal wide left. I wish he would have hit it, but it was a ridiculous situation, and there's no excuse for the Cowboys not even being able to eke out a few extra yards there.

Beuhler may suck but its not because he couldn't hit a 60 yarder. I thought it was insane to even put him out there. I was for sure we were going for it. He had enough leg for it though. But 60 yards is a bit much to ask for ANY kicker in the league.

Same here. When we went down 17-0 I wrote the game off. The story on the Cowboys is you come out of the gate and hit them in the mouth and they're curl up like a baby and take it. We had the lead this game in closing minutes. This is not a Wade Phillips led team and for whatever reason this team is responding to Garrett. And if it comes down to Garrett or guys like John Fox or John Gruden, etc.? Why shouldn't Garrett get he job? I'm for him as well. I've seen enough to know that he gives this team a new swagger. This team believes in him. We actually resemble a real football team out there.

Because he's so dang inconsistent.. You never know what you are going to get from him out there. He had a good game yesterday...but I'm talking more about his body of work.

This was the most impressive performance from Garrett yet, and this from a guy that didn't (doesn't) want him as the HC. Hell of a job to get down 20-3 and still lead the team back from it. We should have won this game if not for the Roy mistake, but it is hard to fault a guy for trying to make a play. Plus this loss helps us more than a win would have (if truly looking at the bigger picture). It also helps us see how Garrett will respond to some serious adversity and a very tough loss.
I must admit, he is impressing me by how he has the guys playing. If Kitna doesn't throw that pick on our 2nd drive NO doesn't get that huge lead to begin with and this might have been a much better game for the good guys. Despite it all, they were ready to play with the deficit and that was nice to see after the memory of the GB game.
I assumed we would lose this game (and the Indy game for that matter) but we had way more fight in us than I expected. Again, that is from a coach that demands more and credit is due to Jason. I am not won over, and don't see that happening unless this is what is seen from the rest of the year, but still, I can give credit when credit is due.

I agree Dan...It would have been easy (and they have) just layed down but they didn't. That goal line where they punched it in after three straight running plays actually impressed me as well. They had clawed back into and were going to win this thing.. Huge testament imo...
I have to disagree about the roy mistake however, it'a all on him and it was a horribly stupid play that directly did cost them the game.
He did NOT have to make a play once he was caught, if he'd just fell down they would have won it. It was something a rookie or a dumb-in-the-head player does. I have to put him in that second category I guess and I haven't been a fan who has dumped on Roy a bunch. Really there isn't anything other than a collossal screwup by Roy on that one.
It was good to see him completely take responsibility for it after the game as he should.

I don't understand why they were exclusively working the sidelines on the last drive when they had two timeouts. Finishing a game in that situation with two unspent timeouts is pretty terrible.

Yeah, that was definitely puzzling to me, as well. There were at least three consecutive plays on that last drive where the Saints brought a safety or corner on a blitz from the edge. A skinny post or hitch-and-go would have put a corner or safety in man coverage on Miles, Dez, or Roy. I like those match-ups.
The tempo of that possession was also absolutely terrible. Kitna kept moving receivers across the formation play after play, consuming at least 30 seconds in the process... and all with timeouts left. That's just awful clock management. Unless, of course, you are playing to tie. And if you are, that is highly questionable to me.
I also found the decision to punt the ball instead of kicking a field goal pretty dubious. Buehler had already connected on a 53-yard field goal, so why not give it a shot? They only netted 19 yards of field position with that ridiculous punt attempt. The coaches clearly don't trust Buehler, so why is he on the roster? If you're going to draft a kicker, at least make sure that he is accurate enough to trust in a time of need. If he isn't, you've just shown that we can add yet one more player to the list of what is, quite possibly, the worst draft in Cowboys history.
I really like what I am seeing from Garrett, but, like I stated before, the roster decisions made by this organization have brought about this lost season. The lack of depth in the secondary, combined with poor execution, was very evident on the Saints' final scoring drive. Newman was hurt, but gave a huge cushion. Yet he was still absolutely toasted on a simple go route. There wasn't even a pump-fake or double move involved. He just waited too long to start his backpedal, even though he had help underneath. His sole responsibility on that play was not letting the receiver get past him. I understand that he is playing hurt, but he shouldn't even be on the field. There should be two or three quality players available to replace him.
It seems like every gamble Jerry made in the preseason, wishing and hoping that his old line and thin secondary would hold up, praying his kicker would do something he has never done in his life, has bitten him right in the ass.
