Playoffs GDT: Lakers @ Mavs, Game 3, 5/6/2011, 8:30pm Central (ESPN)
The NBA "experts" still refuse to believe that the Mavs have played any part in this onslaught, but soon they will learn differently.
Tonight, the Mavs place their foot firmly on the Lakers' throat, and begin to crush the life out of the champs.

Why is every single video on ESPN talking about the lakers? It's like the lakers lost all by themselves.
I just hope Stern doesn't make this series go longer. After the foul call discrepancy in the finals against the Heat and the crazy Gasol trade I know anything can happen. In '09 when the Rockets played the Lakers in the finals, Kobe elbowed and knee'd Shane Battier when he was down and they let it go. ESPN said that Kobe was helping him up. BS!

I'm seeing Mavericks -2 at the betting sites. Isn't HCA advantage worth a good 3 points at least in the eyes of the line makers? Does this tell us they actually favor the Lakers here and expect them to bounce back?

I think Broussard and Rose will be picking them even if we win tonight. I think non-Dallas win really really really have a hard time trusting us.

Generally, yes. I'd imagine if this game were being played a neutral site, even down 0-2, the Lakers would be favored by about 2 points.

I'm getting up at 7AM to watch this game (I live on the other side of the world)... I'm super pumped to see the Mavs methodically play up to the energy and desperation of the Lakers.
I strongly strongly feel like the Mavs will pull this out.
Dirk, Terry, Kidd, Chandler, Marion, Haywood, Barea, Peja, Stevenson

Now, we need a decisive double-digit win here, break their spirit and make them hope that this year's playoff stops soon to get them out of their misery. We need to be focused and determined from the beginning and no easing up until the win is ours. Chandler needs to stay out of foul trouble, that's the key, if the outside shots don't fall, go inside, again and again. Take advantage of Artest's absence, abuse Barnes every way you can. Pull Stevenson as soon as he gets too trigger happy, same goes for Barea, as soon as his layups are blocked more than once. Dirk needs to attack Gasol and make him really work on defense, he's the key to their success and he's the one who has the most to proof. Don't allow Odom to get hot from 3-point land and make Kobe work really hard for his points.

Win tonight and you've got an insurmountable stranglehold on the series. Lose this game and my feeling is 'see you in game seven.'

This.
This the most important game of the year for the Mavs IMO...if the Mavs loose this game the momentum will shift back to the Lakers. Mavs must at the very least split these home games
Go for the kill tonight, b/c the Lakers won't win 4 in a row.

No team in NBA history had ever come back from a 3-0 hole. Can we push the Lake show to the brink?
Mavs, with a healthy dose of Barea, destroy the Lakers from inside out. And I'm taking about penetrating the paint, not Bynum's comments.

I said this in the Artest thread, but it looks like (for now) that Brown will be starting SG and Kobe still start at SF. Which means Marion on Kobe. Goooooood.

In this case you can think of starting Roddy or Brewer over Stevenson in my eyes.

Why would Dallas change its rotation? Stevenson isn't hurting the Mavs, and he's only playing about 11 mpg.

And remember, it's not Avery Johnson coaching the Mavs.

Yep, that's why I was perfectly fine with Stevenson starting in Game 2 after a pretty bad first game. Luckily, he went 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and justified being on the court for his usual 10-14 minutes. As much as I enjoyed Brewer's contributions in the first game, I don't want to make unnecessary changes and put our chemistry at risk. If Stevenson has an off game, get him off the court, just like in Game 1. If not, never change a winning team.

Mavs winning streak continues and they go up 3-0.
Dirk continues being Dirk by scoring 33 pts and grabbing 12 boards
TC goes 10 an 17.
Matrix scores 19 and grabs 7.
Mavs win the rebounding battle for the first time in the series 48-41.
The strangest occurrence in the game was when Kobe Bryant, apparently suffering from hallucinations related to sleep deprivation (he is reportedly fretting over the two game losing streak at the Staples Center), began to see bugs crawling on his skin under his uniform. Bryant was taken to a nearby Dallas hospital after the game for observation. It was later revealed that the bugs were really a symptom of Shawn Marion's defense.
Mavs 97
Lakers 96
"Experts" still pick Lakers in 7.

Sure, if he's stinking up the joint (as he was in the 3rd quarter of Game 1), then make a substitution. But the team has a set and clear rotation (something that helps them perform better), and it should only be altered when it's absolutely necessary. In Game 1, Carlisle was looking for a spark, and he found it. In Game 2, Stevenson was doing just fine, and he stuck with him.
That's the way it should work.
