Popeye Jones Charged with DWI

DALLAS - Dallas Mavericks assistant coach and former player Ronald "Popeye" Jones was arrested on a drunken-driving charge over the weekend.

Richardson police say motorists reported a sport-utility vehicle being driven erratically Sunday night. Officers arrested Jones at about 9:30 p.m. at 100 S. Greenville Ave.

Spokesman Jonathan Wakefield said Jones declined a breath test, but officers believed he was drunk.

There was a minor struggle when police tried to arrest him and he was taken to the ground, causing minor facial cuts.

Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated. Wakefield said Monday he won't be charged with resisting arrest.

He was released from police custody at about 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, in an e-mail to The Associated Press, declined to say whether Jones faces any discipline.
