Nets Fs Martin, Williams undergo surgery
June 20, 2002

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New Jersey Nets forwards Kenyon Martin and Aaron Williams both underwent successful surgeries on Thursday.

Martin, the first overall pick in the 2000 draft, had bone chips removed from his right wrist. He will be in a cast for five weeks before being able to begin rehabilitation.

Martin was a key component in helping the Nets reach the NBA Finals for the first time in club history. The 6-9 Martin averaged a team-high 14.9 points to go along with 5.3 rebounds per contest in 73 regular-season games. He upped those averages to 16.9 points and 5.8 rebounds in 20 posteason contests.

A key player off the bench, Williams underwent arthroscopic surgery on both knees. This past season, Williams averaged 7.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 82 games. He averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in the postseason.
