Wonder if there's any backlash from teams around the league against the Mavs after what went down in the Denver series and Cubes supposedly calling Kenyon Martin the n word. Could be effecting teams from wanting to deal with us? If so Cubes needs to sell the team.
I just really am curious if some of this is the fact that teams hate us. We'll see how it plays out though.

You need to check your facts before rumors start spreading - NOBODY ever accused Mark Cuban of using that word... George Karl said some Mavs fans in the stands were saying it (which doesn't make a lot of sense, considering those people paid their hard-earned cash to watch black athletes play for the Mavs too...)
The only thing Cuban ever called Martin was a "thug"...

Rumors out there of Houston allegedly offering McGrady, Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry for Amare and Leandro Barbosa.
With a healthy Ming that would be a tough front line of Artest, Amare, Ming.

Jesus! If that happens, I'm freaking out. I thought this summer that the Mavs would be one of the few making deals and we'd be the favorites, clearly not the case.
Orlando, Boston, Houston, San Antonio, Lakers, Denver, Maybe Portland to contend with? That's F**king scary. Excuse my French.

This rumor is by PETER VESCEY, so it must be taken with a huge grain of salt.

They still need that scorer though. I mean that's a scary lineup and it very well could contend for a title but that 2 guard is needed. They went through too many scoring droughts last season and maybe they overcome them with the dominance of Artest, Amare and Yao but I don't think they can be too confident in their perimeter offense. Maybe Von Wafer can continue to develop into this player.

I don't think he's spreading the rumor lol. That is how some fans think around the league for whatever reason. Not sure what the players think but I imagine they weren't too pleased by what went down in the Denver series. I think its a legit concern Mavswillhaverings brings up.

If it's not spreading a rumor, then it's definitely perpetuating one (a completely unsubstantiated one at that...)
And I don't think there's a single owner in the league who wouldn't do business with Cuban if it could benefit them - these guys didn't become millionaires/billionaires by allowing personal grudges to affect their business decisions...

I say we trade the number 24 for Benga, the number 56 and the future 2nd round pick for Josh Powell...sign Marquis with the MLE...turn back time so Devin never left...and bring Keith Van Horn back from Morman-ville. BOOM! Title Contention

You might add Chandler to that list, even though he's less interesting than the other three due to injury issues that even the supposedly oft-injured Kaman can't possibly compete with.
We need a center probably more than anything else. Apparently, there are some good ones availabe, e.g. Kaman, Camby, and Chandler. These are optimal circumstances to realize a trade, especially with the trade chips we have.
After all, this organization constantly states that they want to win a championship. In order to achieve that goal, you not only need a good team. You need a good front office, too - one that can pull off these very trades.
Talking trades is not enough. You need to be able to get them done. Just look at San Antonio.

I think the dumbest move Avery made was getting rid of Marquis and not playing him enough when he was here. Let's be honest. Our backcourt of Harris/Howard/Quis meshed perfectly together and they all loved each other. Not only that...in 2005/2006 they were all roughly 22-23 years old. That backcourt could've played together for another 5-8 years.
It's too bad Cajun Avery Johnson couldn't put up with Quis' thug attitude.

The Warriors and New Jersey Nets are talking about a deal which would send Vince Carter to the Warriors. The Warriors have offered 6th man Corey Maggette as the centerpiece in the deal along with swapping first round picks this year. The hold up at this point seems to be who else the Warriors would send to the Net along with the Nets wanting the Warriors to take back Keyon Dooling as well.
More to come...
|
Don't know why the Nets make this move, lose ticket sales.....but if this is the case, we can beat this offer.

The thing is, even if we can, I still have no faith that we'd get him. We "Coulda" beat San Antonio's offer for RJ. And we "Coulda" beat the Cav's offer for Shaq. But for Vince we can, but will we?

Why are all these trade rumors so one-sided?
(maybe because they were all generated by writers trying to sell their local newspapers?)

Kaman and Camby are still out there, though nothing solid has been reported up to now. I love how Nelson comes out and says there is a lot of talking, but, maybe nothing gets done now.....definitely agree if we don't get Kaman nor Camby, it's a bust and Nelson must be fired. Okafor I can see as costing a bit more and willing to give Nelson a pass on that one. I mean with Stack's chip in hand, only a moron can blow it.

If Nelson blows it, you have the definition of a moron. Obviously, he's taking (well, probably also Mark) the term "offseason" too literally...

During the regular season last year Dallas' starting center had a PER of 15.7, and their starting SG had a PER of 8.6. In the playoffs, Dallas' starting center was one of 5 players with a positive on-court +/-, and one of 6 players with a positive net +/-, whereas Dallas' starting SG and primary backup at the SG position tied for the worst on-court +/-, and worst and second-worst net +/- among players who played in at least 1/5th of the team's minutes.
Center is not this team's primary need. A starting wing is this team's primary need.
I wouldn't count on seeing Chandler in Dallas. I think he'd be an upgrade compared to Damp, but not a big enough upgrade to justify (in the mind of the front office) the extra 12 million he's due to be paid in 2010/2011.

If Golden State gets Amare for Biedrins AND Carter....look out. We couldn't handle their offense before. How would we slow them down then? There lineup then would be a borderline offensive juggernaut. (But they wouldn't be able to defend a damn thing)

Getting good on the VC front:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4287197
Quote:
Sources: Nets, Magic in serious talks
By Chad Ford
ESPN.com
Updated: June 25, 2009, 3:56 PM ET
The New Jersey Nets are in serious talks with the Magic about a deal that will send Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, two league sources told ESPN.com.
The talks have reached a point that a deal could be done by the end of the day Thursday, according to sources.
The trade would give the Magic even more star power on their quest to win an NBA championship. The addition of Carter to a lineup that already consists of All-Star players Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Jameer Nelson would make them the favorites to win the Eastern Conference title next year.
As for the Nets, the move is a cost-cutting measure. Both Alston and Battie are in the last year of their contracts, and trading for them would shave $16.5 million off New Jersey's roster in the summer of 2010 and put the Nets well below the salary cap.
The deal, if completed, would also give the Nets a young, promising shooting guard in Lee.
Chad Ford covers the NBA and NBA draft for ESPN Insider.
|
...then again a Kings staffer Jerry Reynolds was quote as saying Ford is a tool for agents....is NJ trying to drive up the VC price tag?

Magic take a loan of the league and steal Carter, nice

Makes sense, seems NJ believes Shaq to Cleveland doesn't give them anything. The Brooklyn deal is still being re-worked to lower costs, but it seems it's on the move....so seems Ratner maybe willing to sacrifice ticket sales now for a bigger payoff down the road. You knock out VC's salary, their looking at possibly 2 max free agents to add long with Lopez and Harris.

I swear if the Mavs bring back the exact same team as last year (excluding whoever they draft) I'm not watching a f'n second of Mavs basketball this upcoming season. There's no point when seemingly every single team is getting better and our team which is a #6-#7 seed at best is standing still. How the hell can Shaq be your backup backup plan but at the same time you pull off no moves that are better than that? WTF? Good players are going to other teams like crazy and we're not even hearing rumors about us being in negotiations with ANYBODY. Instead we move backwards in the draft what are we the defending f'n NBA champions? Orlando got to the NBA finals and they're making a move right now and we're doing SHIT. I am seriously more pissed off than I've ever been at the F.O. and that's saying alot.

Wow on the Orlando thing. Although that'd be adding 3.5 million to Orlando's payroll, which is sort of surprising. That'd be an outstanding acquisition for them if they're willing to pony up the dough, and are able to re-sign Turk. Probably about as good a deal for the Nets as they can hope to make, too.
