J-Ho is out for tonight:
Quote:
Howard out indefinitely
Josh Howard is going back on the inactive list indefinitely, coach Rick Carlisle said after the Mavericks' shootaround this morning.
The Mavericks made the decision to give Howard more time to recover from his off-season left ankle surgery after he had difficulty in the second of back-to-back games earlier this week.
Howard did not re-injure the ankle. But he was limping on it during the second half of the San Antonio game Wednesday and was taken out for the rest of the game. After the game, he called it a speed bump.
Howard missed the first five games of the season, returned Saturday against Toronto and played solidly in two games before having trouble at San Antonio.
"We're going to shut Josh down again for a while, just to make sure he gets some more time to rehab and strengthen it,'' Carlisle said. "He hasn't had any setbacks or anything like that. We just feel it's the best thing. There's no definite time period.''
--Eddie Sefko

Without Jefferson and Love, we should be able to get an extensive look at Jawai and Hollins as T-wolves tonight.
This could be the perfect game to get Gooden going, and/or to get Humph some meaningful minutes. Either way, I expect a rebounding advantage for the Mavs of at least +15 tonight. And if the Mavs feel like staging one more impressive coming-from-far-behind victory, before they break the bad habit of falling behind big, this could also be the perfect game to target the 30-point mark.
But I would prefer them to step on the 'wolves throats early and empty that arena by halftime. That would mean more rest for our stars and for my fellow overseas-mavs-fans and me.
Go Mavs!

Good move by the FO with Howard. I figured they'd be nuts to try and play him tonight. Keep him out a month if you have to.

Howard did say that his ankle was sore after the Raptors game. You know, the only game when he consistently took the ball to the hole?

I want to see two things tonight:
1) I want us to come out of the gate hard and strong. Sure it's a pack of pups with its Alpha dog MIA, but by halftime I want there to be no question who is going to win this thing.
2) I'd really like to see Roddy get some meaningful burn tonight. Not just garbage stuff, but some actual minutes. Of course, this becomes a lot easier if we accomplish number 1.

Agreed, it's all or nothing at this point. When most of the players took the summer to stay in reasonable shape. Josh was under the knife and getting well. They tried a speed up on the rehab, it didn't work. Go back at regular pace and hopefully see you by XMas.

Um... doesn't accomplishing #1 mean MORE garbage time?

An entire quarter or two of garbage time (as opposed to 2-4 minutes) should do the trick...

I am slowly getting tired of seeing JJB. Maybe some Rod tonight. Then after that I'll turn on the game..

Anyone who plays a quarter or two in the NBA is playing meaningful minutes - this isn't the NFL where an entire quarter can be considered garbage time... I just want to see the Mavs blow out the Wolves in the first half - call the second half what you will, but that much time on the court would definitely benefit Roddy...

Yeah Roddy definitely needs to see some floor time. He looked about on par with Jennings in the summer league, if not better, but Jennings is having some early success so far. The only difference up to this point is Jennings has been given significant minutes while Roddy hasn't gotten anything.
Also, everytime Roddy is in the game he looks like he can beat just about anyone who's guarding him. Almost makes it look a little too easy so then he pulls himself back to try to get others involved. Carlisle just needs to let the young man have the green light on driving the lane and as the other team begins to clamp down on him harder it'll open up more natural opportunities for him to get others involved instead of trying to force it.

I guess what I mean is I want to see him with some real players; ours and theirs. I know we aren't going to put him on the court in a close game, but if we can build up a healthy enough lead early on, maybe we can see him play against their starters and with our starters, even if just for a bit.
What I mean by garbage time is 2 minutes at the end of the game when he is playing with Matt Carroll and meanwhile Dirk, Kidd, and the rest are already halfway to the locker room.

Oh great here we go.
The main reason I wish Josh wasn't out is because people become ridiculous.

Let me rephrase. I'm so sick of the injury prone part of Josh Howard... which is 99% of Josh Howard.

we dont need howard tonight vs the pups without jefferson... much better to get him healthy then to drag his injury out.
He has needed this surgery for a long time. once it is fully healed he should be less injury prone. There is/was a reason for all his ankle trouble... that has been removed.. but obviously it takes time to heal.

Kidd's passing has been pretty shoddy lately. He isn't making crisp passes it seems like.

Agreed. Roddy is good, but it's too early to run the offense through him.
