The mind boggles at the movies that people spend money on in the theater.
I assume you love the popcorn or something.

Capitalism: A Love Story.
Pretty interesting stuff in there. I'll probably watch it again sometime this weekend.

Paranormal Activity was pretty scary. This has been the only horror movie where i was genuinely nervous and scared. This and the exorcist.
I'm one of those people who doesn't believe in this kind of crap but it did a good job.

A Serious Man was very good. Prob my fav Coen Bros film since O Brother.
Zombieland was decent. Not as good as some made it out to be though.

Ok, so i just want to say, when a movie gets popular, especially via word-of-mouth, i get it. I can understand what people see in a movie. With that being said, there wasn't 1 scene in Paranormal Activity that scared me. I saw most if not all of that coming, but i still enjoyed it.

Just got Fight Club for Blu-Ray. The movie gets more bad ass every single time I see it.
Also, bought Bruno and was kind of disappointed. IMO, can't hold a candle to Borat.

Terminator Salvation is pure garbage. Glad I didn't waste 10 bucks in the movie theater.

Is it incredibly overrated?

Avatar - not overrated if you are a sci fi geek. It is phenominal, imo.. Yes, there are cheesy lines but that doesn't distract from the awesomeness on the screen. If you liked the new Star Trek then it's that on steroids. Will write more later.

Loved Avatar.
Dances with Wolves scifi/fantasy version is spot on.
Worth it in IMAX.

Do you have that large 1080p blue ray rip? If that thing plays in that WD player you were posting about I might have to spring for one of those.

Yes, it is. I frankly wasn't really even that impressed with the 3D. I love Sci Fi but that story was seen-it-before crap. I didn't have high expectations of it, either. I just don't think combining Ferngully with Dances With Wolves is appealing. The effects were cool but wasted around garbage of a screenplay. I honest to god closed my eyes with boredom about three times during it. Plus, almost the exact same movie came out early summer called Battle For Terra. Maybe that is crappy timing for Cameron, but I guess I just can't be fully enamored by mindless effects.

Maybe I'm just not into big budget action films anymore but for the amount of money they spent on that movie, bleh.
And I also don't really like Sam Worthington. He just can't act to save his life. I guess we're stuck with him though because he is also in Clash Of The Titans (which I'll admit looks pretty sweet).
I do like Sci Fi though and am not some cynic. I loved District 9 and thought Star Trek was at least decent (esp compared to Avatar). Terminator and Avatar though? Thumbs down.

How did you like district 9 but complain about the week screen play in avatar. District 9 was flat out an awful movie. It had one of the worst screen plays in recent memory and it didnt have the special effects that avatar did to fall back on. And clash of the titans does look awesome.

I loved District 9. That being said, Avatar blows it out of the water. I can't wait to get it on blu-ray. By the way, I didn't see the 3d version.

Prestige was Nolan as well.
But i agree, great movie, and Yuma and Equilibirum were solid.

D9 was nominated for a Golden Globe for best screenplay.
Isn't the Oscars doing 10 movies for best picture this year? Absolutely wouldn't shock me to see D9 get a nomination there. I know Avatar will, but it would be awesome to see a couple of underdogs get in like D9.

I seriously thought it was one of the 20 worst movies ive ever watched from begining to end. The plot(what little bit of a plot there was) made no sense, the dialog was awful, and the special effects were poor. Im sorry but there was no redeeming value of that film. I know it only cost 30 million to make but it still sucked.
Seriously someone wanna explain(spoiler if you havent seen it) how one guy who doesnt even understand the technology could be so powerful with it yet the entirety of the alien race with all of those weapons could be so easily herded into refugee camps? Ive heard the theory that they were supposed to be "special" aliens but if that were the case then they should have invested 10 minutes of the 2 hours of absolutely nothing going on to explain that. In that case why the hell was the alien who left there? None of it made any sense. Im not talking about science issues or suspension of disbelief issues, the whole storyline was just stupid. Take any group in a refugee camp and give them weaponry WAYYYYYYY more advanced than anyone else on the planet has and see how long they stay in a refugee camp.
Also the "vast majority" loved the wrestler and I wasnt a fan of it either though for completely different reasons.

I seriously want someone to tell me something good about d9 other than that it was cheap.
