Big Man options thread
I couldn't really come up with a place for this, so let's have a thread about big man options.
Art Garcia just tweeted the following:
Quote:
ArtGarcia_NBA Big-man option: Former Maverick & TCU great Kurt Thomas likely to be bought out in Chicago.
|
I'm highly interested.

KT's pretty damn old, but still solid. I'd take him.

I think he's slipped a bit lately, but can't be real choosy right now.
I'd be worried about him going to Denver though.

Shouldn't this be in the trade and draft board?

He's the very definition of stop gap. Which is fine if nothing else works out.
With KT you have the benefit of having a player that could still have a role even when Damp gets back, as a mobile center and third string PF.

If Thomas is available, I'd bite...the thing that sucks is people are definitely impressed with the Mavs trade but is it enough to "woo" the potential guys with options?

Of the names that have been floated as possible buyouts Z's my first choice by a pretty wide margin. Drew next. After that they're pretty much just big bodies as far as I'm concerned. If you can't get Z but Drew gets bought out you probably need to bring in Jake on a 10-day or something.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd actually like to have Gooden back.

I'd like to see someone with some time on their hands do research for a thread called "Veteran Backup PG Options."
As it pertains to this thread.. eh. Ilgauskas and Kurt Thomas are the only names that pique my interest.

Does Drew getting traded to the Clippers change anything as far as when he could resign with the Mavs? Are both the Wiz and Mavs blocked from resigning him within 30 days, or is it just the team that traded him most recently (the Wiz)?

Are they finished working on the Prime Wilt Clone yet?
But all seriousness aside, there are conflicting reports about Gooden. But the latest on Hoopshype is that the Clips are releasing him.

Hope I'm wrong but I don't see Big Z coming here.

I'm just going to give him all the options."

I think it comes down to 3 big men.
Big Z, Gooden, Thomas.
And I'd say us getting Z is really a long shot to say the least.

Kurt might be our only stop gap. Think about it, the blazers lost both pryzbilla and oden; and had to settle for Juwan howard. There's desperation, and then there's Ju-howard. Even they had to trade rotation pieces to get a big(camby).
Kurt can give you a decent 10 defensive minutes

Let's get Ryan Hollins back from Minnesota! He's a great room guy and can play 12 - 14 minutes without beeing exposed.

Signed as a FA w/Minnesota (2 yrs/$4.4M) -- we could get him with one of our TEs but apparently Minny is pretty happy with him.

Exactly. I remember the Mavs being high on Keith McLeod in the summer league, so maybe he is a fallback option?
