Poor Rose...injury to the right knee this time. Some players are just made of glass unfortunately.

I'm calling it now: first MVP to not make the HoF.
Worst selection ever... Most MVP's get passed over several times before they win it, but the NBA was so intent on making him the "next Jordan" in Chicago that they crowned him before he proved if he had any staying power. Sucks that such a promising career might be cut short by injuries (at this rate), but durability is part of the game.

In some respects durability is one of the biggest parts of all sports. Without it you'll do little. Actually bill Walton is the most fragile guy I can remember who deserved the hof.

Yep. That was an easy MVP selection for either Howard or LeBron.. but unfortunately Orlando isn't a big market and LeBron was coming off The Decision. Media loved Rose obviously, they think he's humble when in reality he's borderline illiterate.

Makes what Dirk has done all the more impressive.

Dirk better take more than a 7mill/year cut. Whew.
Kobe at 37 will earn considerably more than Dwight Howard, Durant and almost twice what Harden will earn this year

Wolves close to finalizing trade with Kings, sending Derrick Williams out for Luc Richard Mbah a Moute. Good deal for both teams, though on the surface, trading a #2 pick for the #37 pick seems like it's selling awfully low. The Wolves desperately need defenders though so it was the right type of trade to make IMO.
Now they need some sort of deal to get a 3-and-D type for the perimeter, or a rock-solid defensive center. If they can add those pieces that is a tremendous roster.

I'd be surprised if Dirk took anything over $10M per year. As much as I'd love to see him sign for the minimum or something like that... I want Dirk to be taken care of too. I think a 3-year deal at about $30M total would be perfect.

Didn't know the Nets are in such deep shit
Nets' pick situation:
2014 — Atlanta Hawks have right to swap first-rounders (Joe Johnson).
2014 — Owe first-rounder to the Boston Celtics (Kevin Garnett) — after Hawks potential swap.
2014 — Owe second-rounder to Philadelphia 76ers (MarShon Brooks, Kelly Olynyk, Ricky Ledo).
2015 — Atlanta Hawks have right to swap first-rounders (Joe Johnson).
2015 — Owe second-rounder to Atlanta Hawks (Mehmet Okur, Raul Neto).
2016 — Owe first-rounder to the Boston Celtics (Kevin Garnett)
2016 — Los Angeles Clippers have rights to swap second-rounders (if Clippers’ pick in top-55, Reggie Evans)
2017 — Boston Celtics have the right to swap first-rounders (Kevin Garnett).
2017 — Owe second-round pick to Atlanta Hawks (Joe Johnson).
2018 — Owe first-rounder to the Boston Celtics (Kevin Garnett).
So the Nets could potentially miss the playoffs for the next 5 years and not get a single lottery pick, they own 1 second rounder in that time period, they are in cap hell for at least the next 3 years and they dont have a single promising young player. Holy hell!

Only 2 teams in the east above .500. The entire Atlantic division is sub-.500, so a sub-.500 team is a top 4 seed.
Only 4 teams in the west below .500
4 teams in the east are on pace to make the playoffs with sub-500 records. In the west, three teams are .500 or above and on pace to miss the playoffs.

You gotta think that will level out some over the course of the season, but I'm not so sure - there are some BAD teams in the East, and many of them are just getting worse (especially with injuries to key players).

Yeah, waking up today I realize that 10-7 is a lot better than say Mayo's 2-13 Bucks or Kidd's 4-12 Nets.

Jeez, Bynum with 20pts, 10 rbds, 5 blocks last night. I wasn't sure if he was still capable of such a game.

Brooklyn is looking rough.
Kidd just forbade his head assistant coach (Lawrence Frank) from even being at games. Now Frank has to write reports with ideas that have to run through Kidd.

The thing is, Frank was essentially coaching the team. Kidd's nothing more than a mascot. I guess he was tired of looking stupid and wanted a scapegoat, but Kidd actually coaching ain't going to solve anything. K.G. Has negative Win Shares this year...

I know the Knicks are bad, but I can't believe the Celtics just blew them out by 40 points. 3 Knicks starters combined for 2 points.

The Atlantic division is a serious joke. Big black eye on the NBA when one of those teams makes the playoffs. Yikes.

The East are just trainwrecks. And it really isn't because of lack of quality talent. It is lack of quality ownership/GMing. Between drafting incompetently or trading incompetently, they just can't get out of their own way.

Douglas-Roberts is signing with the Bobcats. Well deserved after killing it for the Legends.

CDR looked pretty decent for stretches with the Mavs last year... just wasn't the piece we really needed. I could see him carving out an average bench role with the Bobcats... though there aren't really a lot of things that he does particularly well. He's just solid enough to be a 12th/13th man and a scoring option befitting that type of roster spot.

BTW, that Goran Dragic guy, who "genius" Cuban didn't think was worth 10 million a year, has led the Suns to a better record than us, putting up:
19/6/3 on a 61% TS% with a 21.6 PER, 120 ORtg, and .194 WS/48.
Yeah, he's totally not worth 10 mill...

Cogent argument...
*You do realize that off-season before that, Mavs could have had him for that price, but MC didn't think he was worth it...

Lillard is crazy-good. I'm so glad I have him in my fantasy league. The almost-game-winner against us and another game winner against Cleveland (also 36pts, 10ast, 8reb and 8-12 from three)

He also hit ANOTHER game winner the game before the Cleveland game. Dude is pretty cold-blooded. Did you see Batum's reaction on the play? He knew it was going in as soon as Dame shot it. One thing I (from a fan standpoint) can't stand about Lillard, is he gets a bit of KD-lite treatment. Guy gets an inordinate amount of arbitrary fouls on jumpshots.

Lillard is an awesome offensive player but I believe he was one of the very worst defenders in the league last season. And he made Jose Calderon look like freaking Iverson the way he was able to blow by him to the hoop when we last played them.

Rockets stepping away from the trade table on Asik, per Stein. Always a little difficult reading negotiating tactics, but I have to say I'm glad to hear that at least they're having a tough time finding a deal they like. I assume that balloon payment Asik's due next year is keeping his value lower than his strong play as a starter last year would otherwise dictate.

It is nice to see. Looks like the best they'll get is a 1st with protection and one or two decent role players ala Bass and Courtney Lee.
If someone loses a Center to injury before the deadline maybe they get more?
