Holmes misses two shots and we are down -2
Up 8 at 4:40. Now down 2
Hardy could be the worst defender on the team. Campazzo is tearing him up.

I don't understand why Miles Jr. has received three straight "DNP-Coach Decision". Is he with the team? Also, Morris has received 0 minutes the last two games. Seems weird to me. But THJ gets 23 minutes? Powell 16 minutes? I think JKidd needs a psychiatrist ....or maybe an Exorcist.

This thing stinks already. Even if we had an owner that would fire Kidd, theres not a coach alive that could hide Luka and Kyrie defensively.

At least the team would be watchable. I'm not sure I care to follow the team if they don't win with Kidd. Because it's not about just losing...it's about a dumbass narcissistic coach (and owner) who go full Trump with the media.
I'll watch as long as Lively starts. If he gets benched for Powell, then I'm out.
And all of this has 0 to do with preseason losses. You can clearly see the some big gaps.

Agree on the overall take. However, Trump would have probably never hired Kidds ass, would have definitely already fired him and Rick wouldn't have ran 3 or 4 years past his expiration date.

Oh and big shout out to Exum who has been one of the few bright spots in preseason. Seems like a big upgrade over lost in the woods Ntlikina.

I really believe Exum and DJJ can be key contributors if given the minutes and put in the correct positions.
Its a very big IF though.

I am glad. After a pretty good summer league, it was clear in the preseason games (0 minutes) that JKidd was not going to try and develop his talents. He will find a place elsewhere and have a solid NBA career. Good luck Mike!
What could Miles have contributed to the Mavs? He is a solid two-way player that also has playmaking skills. Mavs need someone like that to back up Luka and Kyrie. Perhaps, Exum can fill that role but the fact is the Mavs have zero playmakers (unless Exum produces) outside Luka and Kyrie. If one of them goes down with an injury, then they will have another deficiency in their personnel. I do not understand why they needed to cut him though. They had an open two-way spot for Dennis.

Mavs have a ton of playmakers outside of Luka and Kyrie. That's also a pretty huge exception because when healthy, we will always have one or both of them dominating the ball for the entire 48min.
Exum was brought in to be the two-way playmaker. He had 13pts, 9ast when given minutes versus Real Madrid. Good defense too.
Kidd has specifically said that Green is a two-way playmaking guard/forward.
Curry was brought in because he can spread the floor "and play some point"
Hardy should hypothetically be a combo guard. I think his experiment in summer league utterly failed and he will be at best a small flamethrower 2-guard, but they wanted to develop him thusly.
And if you want a really rough prospect, who is maybe more ready to contribute, Jelly Walker has been doing pretty good work in pre-season. 6pts, 2ast per game so far.
If anything that is TOO much depth. Some of those guys won't get run. I like Mike Miles, but he wasn't going to get minutes except maybe backup minutes in G-League. Now that he is cut, he can go to the Legends (avoiding the draft) or find a place where he can showcase his skills. It wasn't going to happen here buried behind Luka/Kyrie/Exum/Green/Curry/Hardy/Walker

Strongly disagree. Perhaps, I should have used the word "distributor" or quarterback. Someone to run the offense. Curry, Hardy, and Walker are scoring threats but not playmakers in this sense. And their defense is very weak. Green has the potential to be a an excellent two-way player but can he run the offense? He showed some glimpses of this last year and perhaps he could develop those skills, but still largely a question mark in my opinion. And will Kidd give him that opportunity? Exum is also a question mark at this time. Why waive another possible option when you have an open two-way contract? Again, I am happy for Miles as he will likely have better opportunities elsewhere. But I will not be at all surprised if he develops into a lesser version of Jalen Brunson. He has a competitive edge that makes him a winner, just like Jalen. He is not as talented but there are similarities.

I mean Jelly Walker is getting minutes in preseason and I would bet $50 that he won't play more than 25min total for us this season. I think it's ridiculous to think that Mike Miles, who can't sniff preseason minutes, will somehow contribute more than guys with NBA pedigree like Curry, Green, and Exum.
This board is rife with people upset that camp fodder gets cut only to have them fail out of the league completely.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to develop a two-way, playmaking back-up PG for two or three years down the road? Perhaps it would be a good idea to have options in the case Luka or Kyrie are injured for part of the season, and or playing 35+ mpg? Again, I hope Exum is the answer and Miles finds a home elsewhere. Hey, maybe the Knicks are interested?

I mean, I'm assuming this is a TCU bias based on your name.
Not really sure there is much more of a reason to be upset about this. Guy wasn't going to play so why waste the spot.

Well, it seems clear as long Kidd is here any non 2 way players will have to play defense unless they are stars like KI or Luka. Seth may be an excpetion because he just one of the most pure shooters ever. They got rid of Wood, want to get rid of THJ. Hardy, who knows? He can't play defense now but is still to raw to say that can't happen and looks like he can become a 25 ppg player.
What I get out of the Miles for Dennis switch is do the Mavs have three 2-way contract to use? The below article seems to think so. Maybe I am not smart enough to understand what they mean. the next paragraph is from the linked article:
As of this moment, the Mavs have two of their two-way contracts accounted for with A.J. Lawson and Mike Miles Jr. Although the Mavs still have a third two-way contract they can hand out without waiving one of the current guys, one rumor is saying that one rookie from a Texas school could be gone in favor of another.

Sorry should of looked it up. Team can have 3 two waycontracts starting this year.
https://gleague.nba.com/twowayplayers
I'd certainly give Greg Brown the 3rd or maybe hope Kai jones clears waivers. Actually, I'd sign Brown and claim Jones to replace Morris. Cut Morris who is only guarnteed 200k until January per Spotrac.

Kai Jones is done
Either psychotic or so deep into drugs that he?s caused psychosis. Either way he?s likely done with American professional ball. Don?t think the ghost of Tarpley is going to get his head back in line.

You have a young center that will hopefully develop into something in the future.
You have a young wing that will hopefully develop into something in the future.
You have a young SG that will hopefully develop into something in the future.
At PG? You have a 28 year old Exum who has not played in the NBA for several years.
Sure it is a TCU bias, because I have seen him a bunch and feel that I know his potential. He was a low cost, low risk option with a pretty high ceiling as a back-up. Now the Mavs have an open two-way slot that will likely go to Walker, Brown, or Weiskamp. Makes little sense to me unless they plan on trading Miles as part of deal. It likely will not mean much or maybe anything this year but I can almost guarantee the Mavs will wish they had a young PG in development within the next two or three years.

I'm with you on Miles. Much like Bane, I watched pretty muxh every TCU game that both of them played. Miles has potential as a quality starting 2 way PG eventually.
Doesn't matter, we are play in fodder as constructed currently.

Stein says Derrick Jones Jr could possibly start. I'm all for that. He is the perfect athletic/defensive 4 in today's game. Just needs to make some threes.

DJJ has some Marion vibes.
Only 34% from three, but maybe we can get him a good run with our playmaking and he can get to 36-38%
He is a crazy pogostick. Decent rebounder. Hustle defender. Next to Luka and Kyrie, we may need as much defense as we can with Williams, Green, DJJ, Lively, etc.

I will not be surprised if the Mavs sign Pinson to a two-way contract.

It does speak to the leadership they want next to OMax and Lively though. Pinson can run some wicked PNR.

How many teams in the West can one confidently say the Mavs will finish above in the standings.
I have the Blazers and that is about all.

Well ESPN has us at 41 wins, and that sounds about right. I can't see anything better than a .500 team unless they magically get it together right away.
Key is developing young guys and seeing if Green is worth keeping. I wouldn't extend him and see how the season plays out. Too risky to lock more money into a mediocre player.

41 with some youth development and a playoff game or two would be a success in my book.
41 wins starting Powell, shitting on rookies, and playing Kidd head games all year? Total failure.

41 wins would definitely be a success for our players. It would be a failure for the organization. We need more than just Kyrie as a veteran leader with lots of playoff experience. There is no defensive anchor that can bend the ear of the players currently. We dont have any Tyson, Kidd and Marion types.

Right now I'd settle for Haywood, Mahimni, Stevenson and Brewer types.

Yeah but I feel like we kinda have those types of guys in some form. What we really need is more talent in the 3rd-7th best player tier.
In 2011, our third to seventh best players in no order were Marion, Tyson, Butler, Kidd. (I think Dirk and Terry were 1 and 2 which is arguable but shows the talent depth on that team)

We literally have a FO that thinks we didn't succeed last year because players didn't know their role. I mean, that's just stupid on nearly ever level and just a "it's Wood's fault" simplification.
We lack talent big time after Kyrie and Luka. And the obvious coach problem.
The only way we are a contender this year is a trade at the deadline....or sooner.
