Of course it was. Kidd can't afford to spend the first 10 games not starting DP, like last season.

It does seem like the likely explanation, because the Maxi thing seems out of nowhere. All those times in the past when it made sense to start Maxi they would pull any spare from the deep bench instead, to keep him with the second unit.
