Orlando pre-draft results for Mavs picks
Fazekas didn't take part, but I dug up the combine results for Terry and Seibutis from Orlando. You can read the full report here. This fact amused me:
Quote:
Seibutis vertical jump is only 1 1/2 inches better than Pavel Podkolzin’s jump from the 2003 combine. Yes, you read that correctly, 6′5″ shooting guard prospect Renaldas Seibutis’ vertical jump is roughly the same as 7′5″ center stiff Pavel Podkolzin. Clearly, Seibutis’ strengths are not his athletic ability.

I thought that one draft report someone posted told us that he was a nice athlete who couldn't shoot.
Now information comes out that he's got a sweet shooting stroke and the vertical of hippo. Does this guy have some twin out there that we don't know about, or did the guys making that draft report just totally guess when they were writing that?

Well, I can't speak for the person writing the draft report, but the combine results don't lie. It is distinctly possible that he's such a hustle player that it looks like he's a better athlete than he is.

Fazekas is a winner and a leader, period. He carried a team to pretty damn good success (at least considering their resources) by himself for 4 years.

He'll go play out of the country, won'tdevelop into the player we'd hoped and we'll never hear from him again.

Maybe he'll turn out to be like the next Steve Kerr or possibly the next ET.

actually they do lie as far as judging athletecism. AI2 tested out as an average athlete at the combine. In game situations hes the best athlete in the nba.

Picks 46-60 are essentially a formality. You need to have 31-45 to constitute a second round, then the rest are thrown in just so everyone starts out with two picks.

he had a 34 inch vert(which i find insane watchin him jump) and many considered jumping luke jackson over him in their draft boards because of how much more athletic luke jackson tested out.

When I say they "don't lie" I mean that they are measurable things. A player who has a higher vertical jump can simply leap higher than someone who doesn't. I have no idea how you would measure foot speed, so perhaps the test they use is simply the wrong test.
Also, as someone else mentioned in regards to Seibutis: He did better in some athletic drills than his vertical jump, so you can't really generalize from that. Of course, I didn't let that stop me from making a funny comparison at his expense.
I should also note that I'm not a big believer in combine results. Kevin Durant is a good example, and perhaps Seibutis is, too.

the thing is how often in an nba game do you stand still and then vertical? Once? if you are the center doing the tip?

they jump vertically from a standing position? Maybe rebounding the ball and jumping for a tip...I cant think of many other times they would jump vertically from a standing position.

I would peg rebounding as an important part of the game.

for a small shooting guard? It's nice but far from necessary, especially since guards tend to be moving toward the ball when they jump.

very rarely will anyone especially a guard stand still, gather and jump straight up for a rebound.

Honestly it's not about how high you jump because every player in the NBA can jump. It's how quick you can jump that sets you apart.
