Shawn Marion Traded to the Raptors; O'Neal to the Heat
Breaking news:
"The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.
The deal is pending league approval, according to league sources."

So Josh, Stack & a min salary (Green, Singleton) to Toronto would have worked cap-wise, and is arguably a better deal for Toronto. Does this mean the Mavs aren't playing ball, or has Josh's trade value really eroded that much? Moon could have replaced Josh, while JO would have given us a big who can score. I'm irritated that we didn't make this deal with Toronto. Let's hope it is because we're trading Josh & Stack for Shaq.

Marion > Howard
(especially when you toss in Banks - we couldn't match that deal, talent-wise...)

Marion has a $17m expiring contract. That's what Toronto wanted.

Pretty funny after Marion won the game for the Heat last night vs. the Bulls with a dunk in the closing seconds. I wonder if Marion will get better numbers playing with a legitimate PG again...

But isn't JO's contract also expiring, and even bigger than Marion's?
Nope, I'm wrong.

Reason: My mistake--looks like JO expires next season.

ESPN seems to think this is the only big trade that will happen by the deadline. I said already I have a feeling the Mavs will be the same team after the deadline that they are now.

Only so many deals out there that make sense. No need to trade just to trade.

Meant to quote TheMaverick there in response to "ESPN seems to think this is the only big trade that will happen by the deadline. I said already I have a feeling the Mavs will be the same team after the deadline that they are now. "

I'm going to trust Riley. While everyone is all fixated on O'Neal and Marion he also got the Raptor 2010 1st round pick if isn't a lottery one. At the very least, we get a second rounder in 2010 with the first rounder sliding to the next nonlottery Raptor first round pick 2011-2014 and the 2015 first rounder if they are putrid enough to be a lottery team through 2014.
A $4 million dollar trade exception. For the next 12 months we can bring in that amount over whatever salary that goes out. Or trade a future second round pick for any player or signed draft pick making that amount or less.
We get to audition Jamario Moon's expiring contract. And O'Neal's $23 million expires in July 2010 for the free agent frenzy.

Considering this wasn't THAT big of a deal, what a ho-hum deadline.
