All right, CJ..... I........ believe...... in you....
The Impaler has actually been mortal this series... I've never seen him strike out this much against us. I remember back in '04 Carlos Almanzar got him to K on 3 straight swings-and-misses on 3 sliders, each progressively more outside. His helmet flew off on the last one. That was a 3-2 win, though. Not quite this barnburner!

Can Wilson go more than one? I'm nervous about sending him out here in the 9th.

Nice throw by Boggs. He'd been struggling with his throws to home. Let's get another walk off.
BTW, PDub, it's not about this season because, well it's not. I mean, I'll take any success we can get this season, but at this point all this is gravy.

Sorry, but I can't get on board with "it's not about this season because it's not." Too conclusory. I need a reason.
Like I said, I understand that the real potential with this roster lies in the next few years, but this team right now is playing like one of the 10 best teams in baseball. That makes it about this season, as far as I'm concerned.

The more it becomes about this season, the more some kind of a move at the deadline becomes necessary. That is the worst thing that could happen.

Same here. These guys are in the mix. And they are, evidently, good. I'm not lowering expectations. Hell, things could get worse going forward, for that matter. Sieze the day, baby!

I'm settling for the fact that we're all up at 10:38 watching sports and chiming in.
Didn't give a rats behind about them last year.

The "not about this season" mantra means two things to me.
1. As Kirabaito said, the last thing I want to see is multiple prospects heading out for a rent-a-player situation because this team is in semi-contention.
2. Not being about this season means that I don't get overly upset about the losses. I really, really want them to win. Believe me, I am way invested. But realizing what we're doing with all these young players keeps me focuses on the big picture.
And I think they're playing over their heads. Their run differential backs that up. Now, that can be said about the Angels too, so who knows, maybe they'll just haul off and win this division. It would be spectactular.

So Wilson can't go two innings in a tie game? Very disappointing...

I'm not a huge baseball fan, so I won't get too emotionally invested either way. But I do think it's all one big balancing test. If the right deal came along, and the Rangers were on the cusp of the division lead, I say do it.
You can rack up prospects as much as you like, but when you're close, you gotta go for it. I'm not saying that will happen, but, who knows.

Nope. Nippert's the only bullpen guy that didn't pitch yesterday or today, and he threw 7 on Monday, which is basically a start. If you wanted to put out Wright again, you could. If worse comes to worst, you can put out Mendoza and put Millwood out tomorrow.

Hell, I thought the 1 inning was risky.

I'm fine with shipping out prospects, but you don't ship out prospects for a 2 month rental unless you are tuning up for a World Series run, not hoping to squeak out your division.
Obviously that doesn't apply if you can make a good deal for middling prospects, I'm talking about something involving our big chips.

I did, too. But the conventional wisdom, if I am not mistaken, is that if you bring out your closer in the ninth inning of a tie game at home, he's the guy in the tenth as well if you don't win it in the ninth.

I think somewhere in that conventional wisdom is the implicit assumption that your closer is worth a damn.
Maybe I'm too hard on the guy, but sheesh.

Unless your closer almost gives up the game and throws 25 pitches.
EDIT: Dub said it best.

Yeah well if they don't get it done here, they're going to be running out Josh Hamilton pretty soon to see if he can pitch too.

Even if C.J. doesn't "suck", he is starting to give major tired head.
So there.

Does Garret Anderson get hits on anything other than weak dinkers up the middle anymore?

That's unfortunate. Byrd probably catches that, and Hamilton definitely catches that, as shallow as he plays.
BTW, bullpen wise this is about the worst possible scenario imagineable after starting by committee last night. I have no idea what we're going to do tomorrow night.

With effin' Mendoza on the mound. I'm going to the game tomorrow night. The Rangers haven't won a game I've gone to since July of 2005.

cause the pitching isn't good enough this year. hence the 'next year' or 'year after that' approach.
