I dont know I kinda think he's overrated. If we gave him our MLE, we'd have way too many developing PFs and we wouldnt have addressed our real weaknesses.

I like Blatche but how does he fit into a roster that already has 15 players (plus Rayshawn Terry) and already has multiple backup projects at PF to a guy that averages 36 min a game.

Isn't Blatche a center type? 6'11" 250? More of an inside player? Could be a better answer eventually than our defense only tandem.

No reason to offer him anything good when you have the ultimate trump card of being able to match any offer he receives.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Washington Wizards forward Andray Blatche, a restricted free agent, was arrested Thursday on sexual solicitation charges.
Blatche and a man identified in court documents as Gregory Palmer tried to solicit sex from an undercover police officer, according to charging documents.
The 20-year-old Blatche appeared Thursday in District of Columbia Superior Court, court spokeswoman Marie Robertson said. He also was wanted for failure to appear on a charge of driving without a license, stemming from an October 2006 arrest, according to court documents.
"We are aware of this matter involving Andray," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering all the information and will continue to monitor this situation."
Drafted in the second round out of high school, Blatche missed the 2005 training camp after he was shot in a carjacking attempt near his Alexandria, Va., home. He split time in the 2005-06 season between the Wizards and Roanoke of the NBA Development League.
In 2006-07, he averaged 3.7 points and 4.4 rebounds in 56 regular-season games.

Wow. I bet he wasn't expecting that proposition to cost him millions of dollars.

...pretty sure that means undercover police officer posing as a prostitute. There'd be nothing illegal about it if he was simply trying to pick up a police officer.
Of course, maybe you got that, but it kinda seems like you didnt?

Police officers are not known for their beauty, and it sounds like Andre was just driving around looking for a prostitute. That is my point.
Go to an NBA party, call an escort service, fly to Nevada or check into a Denver hotel, but cruising the streets looking for a cheap lay as an NBA player?

Got you. Although, to be fair, prostitutes in general aren't known for their beauty either. I agree completely though that he's out of his mind trying to get a hooker as an NBA star.

You shouldn't disparage the beauty of the blue. Not to mention the incarcerated ladies being shown at iowahawk.

Blatche and JCN update
Don't be shocked if the Wizards wind up trading the rights to Juan Carlos Navarro to Memphis on Friday for a first round pick. Just letting you know.
As for Andray Blatche: the Wiz and Blatche were on the verge of finalizing a deal on Thursday. From the folks I talked with, the deal (five years worth around $12.5 million) would have been finished no later than the weekend. Now, who knows? I heard that Ernie Grunfeld is feeling a mixture of hurt and anger right now. I was told that Ernie pulled Andray aside recently and told him to be careful about where he went out and who he went out with. I know for a fact that Gilbert, Antawn, DeShawn, Caron and Roger Mason have had the same conversations with Andray.
When I spoke with one vet tonight, he couldn't believe the news: "Dude was about to sign a contract for millions and he got arrested for that? That's stupid! Everyone knows you aren't supposed to be out like that when a contract is getting done."
It's no secret in Verizon Center circles that Dre Day enjoys the night life - even after getting lucky two years ago when some crafty females suckered him and Peter John Ramos into getting jacked by two thugs in the early morning hours. Dre lived after getting shot but it's hard to tell whether he's really learned anything.
That said, Blatche is a 6-foot-11, 20-year old with no ceiling to his game. From my experience, he's also a good guy. If he were a true knucklehead, I'd say so. He's not. But he is extremely naive and he's displayed a stunning lack of judgement which is not all that amazing considering his age. He's rolled through money (I heard from a good source that the kid was sleeping at Verizon Center for several nights as rookie because he couldn't pay rent), he's out on every single road trip whether there's a game the next night or not and he obviously doesn't have a good read on females. There's a reason why the guy was the MVP of Michael Jordan's high school/prep school all star showcase but still fell to the second round, trust me.
I'm reminded of an episode from last season. We were in Miami. Pregame. Jamison walks into the lockeroom fresh from a round of lifting weights and getting up extra shots. He spots Andray sitting in front of his locker stall munching down a plate of nachos and generally sporting the look of a guy getting ready to watch a game rather than play in one.
Antawn, looking down at Andray: "You have a $16 million contract already or did I miss something?"
Andray offers a blank expression but knows where this is going.
Antawn: "You came over on the second bus right? I've never come over on the second bus. I'm a vet but I always come over on the first bus, don't I?"
(Translation: Teams typically roll from the team hotel to the arena in two groups. The first group usually consists of guys who want to get settled early, take extra shots when the court isn't so full and lift weights. Jamison is always on the first bus)
Andray: "I got extra shots up at shootaround."
Antawn just shook his head and started getting ready for the game.
Bottom line: every person in that lockeroom and every person in that front office understands that Andray Blatche has the potential to be a terrific basketball player. At the same time, they all have questions about his desire, work ethic, maturity level and overall approach to the opportunity that is sitting right in front of his face. I had a conversation about Andray with a player recently and the player nailed it: "He's wild with the money he has now so what's going to happen if you give that guy millions? I have no idea what's going to happen but it's gonna be interesting because someone is going to pay him. God don't make 6-11 with those skills too often."
Exactly.

Shot and arrested by the time he's 20 y.o.?If this doesn't scream "true knucklehead" then what does? The sonofabitch is cursed, at best. This is why so few sportswriters have any credibility at all--they have to suck up to the same subjects who are the sources of their info, and can't call a knucklehead a knucklehead.
It'll be a shame if some team pours millions down this rat hole, because he'll never have any reason to grow up. More likely, he'll end up broike and/or dead.
Mavericks fans better hope the rumors of the team's interest were greatly exaggerated, because otherwise it means they have some gaps in their scouting and personnel department.

So:
Do we buy low--getting him for a pretty low salary given his current/recent troubles, maybe adding a few "team option" years to the contract? Or stay away from a guy who's demonstrated thus far that he really is a knucklehead? My guess is the latter, and it's Avery helping make that call.

Avery said we are getting another vet. I wouldnt consider Blatche to be one, so it sounds like the Blatche discussion has now moved into a fantasy/moral ought direction.

I thought they had a hooker per-diem? Nice gig if you can get it.

Here's an interesting UTube video that shows Andray and Donnell Taylor talking about how they pick up and often end up 'sharing' their women...

So Blatche openly denied this ever happened. You have to be pretty retarded to not know that they have every word you say in these situations on record, and the conversation with the hooker went something like this:
From the document, here is how it went down: Blatche and Palmer were in a vehicle when they pulled up at Thomas Circle.
Defendant 1 (identified by police as Blatche) : "Hey, what's up with you?"
Undercover cop: "You tell me."
AB: I'm trying to see what you're doing."
UC: "Do you want (Blank) or (Blank)?"
AB: "Well, I want both."
UC: "And what about you?"
D-2 (identified as Palmer) : "I want the same."
UC: "I charge $80 but I do two at the same time."
AB: "Yeah, I'm good with it."
UC to Palmer: "And what about you?"
GP: "Yeah, $80 is good."
UC: Aight, you want to pull right?"
AB: "Naw."
UC: "I have a room right here."
AB: "Uh, ok?"

Wizards Sign Blatche For $15 Million
August 18, 2007 - 11:18 amWashington Times -
The Washington Wizards finished off their offseason priorities by re-signing Andray Blatche on Friday to a five-year, $15 million deal, according to a source close to the negotiations.
The Wizards addressed their other offseason priority earlier this summer, when they re-signed guard DeShawn Stevenson.
"Andray is a very versatile young player with a lot of upside," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said. "I see him being a rotation player and maybe down the road a starter."
