He has had plenty of rest over the last week. I say if he feels fine, let him play.

This game determines our season. We HAVE to have Dirk. If we lose this game, forget the ring and maybe even the playoffs. If you don't play, thanks alot Dirk

Yea there's really no point in Dirk playing. I'd rather have him healthy than hobbling. This is just a game in the end of December. There's 4 months of basketball left. The Mavs won't miss this game if they lose.

Definitely, not worth losing him for a while.

Considering how close we record-wise with the Spurs, one could argue that there is a point (one more head-to-head win at the end of the season), and that this end-of-December game is more significant than it would otherwise be.
But then, it's the Spurs. If Dirk re-injured himself in a serious way trying to get a W against the Spurs, I might go burn down the entire city of San Antonio myself, and I'd rather not have to do that.

It may be for the best, if the Mavs can discover (rediscover?) how to play competitively without Dirk. After all, he can't play 48 minutes per game, even in the playoffs.

Thanks for posting Dan, the article says he did some light drills and walked off the court without a limp, so I take that as good news. He'll probably miss between 1-3 more games and then be good to go. My guess is that if today were a playoff game he'd be out there, but since it's merely December there's no reason to rush him back.

He's also out for Saturday's game vs Milwaukee.
Or so I read on the twitters somewhere.

I would assume so too, but all the article said was that "the Mavs remain optimistic about his return for Saturday's game", so I guess we'll just have to see.

DALLAS -- Dirk Nowitzki was ruled out for Thursday night's Dallas Mavericks' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
It will be the sixth consecutive game the Mavs leading scorer will miss since he sprained his right knee on Dec. 27 in Oklahoma City.
"He's getting gradually better, but he's not ready to play yet," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said after the morning shootaround.

Nowitzki spent the shootaround riding the stationary bike and was the first player to head to the locker room, having worked up a good sweat.
The Mavs are 2-3 without their starting power forward, having won two in a row against Cleveland and Portland. The Thunder present a much more difficult challenge with NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant and Co., seeking revenge for two home losses to Dallas. Nowitzki left the last game early in the second quarter, but the Mavs still managed to win with a lock-down fourth quarter on Durant.
Shawn Marion is expected to continue to start at power forward with DeShawn Stevenson starting at small forward and Jason Terry at shooting guard.
Jeff Caplan covers the Mavericks for ESPNDallas.com.

I sprained my knee back in 2002 and it was a massive bitch for about a good 3 weeks to a month. I couldn't even walk the first week and a half after my injury so I understand why Dirk is taking his time with his knee.

For Dirk it will be 2 weeks on Monday. Next game will be Wed, in Indy. So he misses Orlando, gets in a full 2 weeks and ready by Indy?

He'll be ready when he's ready...just focus on the team without Dirk.

Sucks that he´s out. Every game he misses is a missed opportunity to see on of the best of all time.
But, this means he gets some rest, so it´s fine for the Playoffs!

“There aren’t going to be any Dirk updates,” Carlisle said when asked about Nowitzki’s progress. “We’ll let you know when he’s going to play.”
Another brave TV soul mustered the courage to follow that up by asking if Carlisle could share his hope or feeling about Nowitzki’s return.
“I would welcome another question on some other topic,” replied Carlisle, who tends to be frosty with midseason additions to the media horde.
There’s really not much new to share about Nowitzki, who said Friday that he hopes to return sometime during this four-game road trip. He was a limited participant during Monday’s practice, avoiding all contact.
|
Then don't list him as day-to-day if you don't want to be bothered about it, Rick.

Agreed. His limited attitude with the media gets tiresome at times. This isn't like Roddy who will be away for weeks still. The team isn't winning without Dirk.

Haha, jeez man, that's harsh. You don't think we could get them to package Kyle Lowry too?
