GDT: Dallas Mavs vs Oklahoma Thunder, March 5, 7 p.m. central
Mavs need to show the Thunder that they can beat them this year.

They beat them at home in early January 100-87. But winning the season series would be nice.

It's scary how close Dirk was to getting his eyes poked out in that gif.

we aren't winning the season series because they've already beaten us twice. but tying it at 2 would also be nice. especially since they know that buzzer beater win in the 3rd game of the season was a fluke

Correct.
However, this one will be really tough. It's in Oklahoma and you can expect Durant and Westbrick to get 10-15 FT's each (or even more) while Ibaka and Collison will be allowed to get away with murder against Dirk.

I could care less about whether the Mavs win tonight, its time to start playing good basketball on both ends.

We can beat the Thunder in a playoff series once again. They're the same old can't play down the stretch, jump shooting and flopping team as they were last year. They just get a ton of calls which keeps them in games and that's when their biggest flopper, AKA DurWhistle takes over.

Who do you put Marion on...Westbrook or Durant?
It's kinda tempting to let Durant get his, and have Marion try to stop Westbrook, especially because our best defending guard (Delonte) is out. Historically, Westbrook doesn't play well against us, and Durant does.

How about start Beaubois and put Marion on Durant. Not likely happening though.

Well we are screwed on matchups either way, wonder if playing some zone could work against OKC.

This is really the kind of opponent where Carter & Kidd in the backcourt could be ugly. I suppose Kidd will start on the turtle and Marion gets the giraffe.

Zone always works if you shift over quick enough to prevent penetration and the attacking team isn't going bonkers from the long line.

The trouble with going zone is that Cook and Harden (and lately even Royal Ivey) can go nuts from three.

Hello losers (sarcasm). I have finally returned to this grand board after a lot of interesting discussions during the playoffs last year. I got chewed up and spit out more than 1 time during the heat of the Conf. Finals, but I think I left a friendly foe. Enjoy the game tonight. Here's to hoping Dirk goes 2-15 again. I'm 99.874% sure that's not happening though.

I'd take my chances there (also cook and harden rarely play together), Cook hasn't really been a great shooter (slightly under 35%) he has just taken a lot. You have to do everything to try to take away harden and westbrook's penentration. As a team OKC is a middle of pack three point shooting team, they are second in FTA and first in FT %, got to take away their easy points.

Cook is scary bad sometimes. Of late he had a stretch where he missed something like 19 consecutive 3 pointers. Then when you least expect it he'll go 7-9 in a game. Very streaky. Harden has been a bit cold from long range of late after a minor wrist injury. Ivey is an average 3 point shooter.

Ivey is one of those guys you hear people say makes the team better because he plays hard in practice. He's below average in terms of athleticism. He's a mediocre shooter. He seems to be able to play effective minutes though. He's an above average defender.

hmm what do i expect from this game?...
1. Nick collision fouling Dirk hard about 30 times on 31 possibilities, but only receiving 3-4 foul calls.
2. The Mavs holding Durant/Westbrook and Harden below 50 points.
3. Some benchwarmer(s) having career night(s) against us and maybe going bonkers from beyond the arc
edit: should a be pretty close game. But if we get some good officiating it should be an easy win.

I hope Dirk scores at least 29 pts and grabs 12 rebounds.
This would make him a 20p - 7r guy. And then he can go from there and improve even more...

Dirk cannot allow himself to default to his turn around one-legged jumper. He MUST press the issue, back them down, and make strong enough moves to draw fouls. It is the only way.
Also, regarding Durant and Westbrick getting lots of calls, Rick Carlisle may need to get himself thrown out of the game in order to get the refs to call fouls on OKC.

Damn... you mentioned it... the broadcast. Terrible homers, absolutely unbearable. Almost as bad as Portland, Boston and Houston.
