Lewis suspended 10 games by NBA
Quote:
ESPN.com news services
NEW YORK -- All-Star forward Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic has been suspended without pay for 10 games for testing positive for an elevated testosterone level, the NBA announced Thursday.
"First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty," Lewis said in a statement released by the league. "Toward the end of the season I took an over-the-counter supplement which at the time I did not realize included a substance banned by the NBA.
"I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment."
The Orlando Sentinel reported that Lewis tested positive for DHEA, or dehydroepiandrosterone, a chemical compound banned by many sports leagues, including the NBA.
Lewis' suspension will cover the first 10 regular-season games for which he is eligible and physically able to play.
The 29-year-old Lewis averaged 19.0 points in the playoffs to help lead the Magic to the NBA Finals.

I'm very curious to see what PED usage levels would be in the NBA... any thoughts?

What a blow for Orlando. Not the best way to get off to the start of the season.

Why just 10 games? MLB is 50/162 (31%) , NFL 4/16 (25%), Nba? 10/82 (12%)
seems very light to me

LOL @ 12 games. The "anti drug policies" in US pro sports are such a joke. In europe he gets two years minimum for that.

Is it on first positive test in the NBA? Do you get one or two failed tests as a warning in the other leagues?
Regardless, it's silly to allow cortisone injections (common in the NFL...don't know about the other leagues) so a guy can go out and play, yet penalize steroids and the like. It's also silly to allow Lasik and the like for MLB players, given how large a factor eyesight is for batters, yet not allow other means--chemical or otherwise--of transforming the body that the good god gave you.

I just dont see Lews as that guy...so I have to believe that this was definitely accidental. Maybe he didnt do all the reserch, but I doubt he went out and sought to violate this.

You're comparing apples and bowling balls here.

Durgury performed under the care of a DR, and without the use of illicit drugs is that difference here. Really? You are comparing drugs and eye surgery? If Lasik starts trickling down into the college and high school ranks, I think we will still be alright as a country.

Maybe his raised testosterone levels were from finally deciding to be a man instead of always letting guys like Ray Allen and Dwight Howard do all the work for him.
