NBA = JOKE.
And yeah, that foul was during the 2006 1st round playoffs, 3 years ago.

Either I'm missing something, or this is one of the silliest things I've ever heard of. I guess in August the NBA gets just as bored as we do.

How is that even legal? I think they should go review some of Magic Johnsons plays and see if they can summon up some more capital for whatever it is they use that money for. Maybe review Dr. J, can't touch Jordan... but maybe Bird?
Unreal (<-------- SEE!!!! I CALLED IT!!!! IT WASN'T REAL!!!!!)

Good news! This means they're just now getting around to fining DWhistle for each of his flops that year.

Excellent... And while we're in the habit of revising history, maybe Stern could crown the Mavs as 2006 Champs?

Fish updated the page, it wasn't there when I originally opened up the topic.

(Btw: This is a mistake, right? And not David Stern's secretary finding some old unpaid bill in her glove compartment and demanding back payment, right? Yes. This is a media mistake, not an NBA bookeeping one. This fine was already assessed when it happened.)

Nothing to see here, I suppose - just the dying sound of the newspaper industry breathing its last breath...

No one even picked up on the headline right above Shard's suspension. No SEC fans in here? Mike Shula was hired by the Tide in 2003 and fired in 2006. The extension mentioned in the headline was given to him following the 2005 season.
"MINNESOTA VIKINGS—Fired Fran Foley, personnel director.
ALABAMA—Signed Mike Shula, football coach, to a six-year contract through Jan. 31, 2012.
ORLANDO MAGIC—Suspended F Rashard Lewis for 10 games for testing positive for an elevated testosterone. "

The info wasn't originally available - we reacted to the story D-B was touting until they added the edit...
Point your angry finger at Fish...

To be fair, the addendum about it being a mistake wasn't originally there. It was added later.

it wouldn't surprise me at all if he actually was fined.
"Oh, by the way Dirk, after reviewing the situation that you have recently been envolved in with Miss Cristal Taylor we're going to have to go ahead and fine you $250,000 and charge you with a flagrant 2... Oh, and we're going to have to suspend you for seven games starting with the first game of the NBA Finals granted you make it there. If you don"t make it there this year then the suspension will automatically roll over to the next year and will continue to do so until you retire or Mark Cuban sells the Mavericks." -David Stern

The entire article was a slam on the newspaper for making such a ridiculous mistake. It was, imo, obvious before Fish's clarification that it was a mistake by the paper, and Fish clearly thought so as well, since he talked about the death of the newspaper and how he's made mistakes, etc.
Whatever. I read it early this morning and thought it was funny. Maybe some of you were still sleepy when you read it.

Uhoh, I feel myself getting pulled into an internet argument, which I always try to avoid, so I will leave it with this:
When I read it, and maybe the page just didn't fully load, all I saw was:
"This just in: Dirk Nowitzki has today just been fined $15,000 for a flagrant foul on Pau Gasol! (In August! That’s pretty flagrant!)
This also just in: Newspapers Are Dead! (And this quaint little editing error is pretty flagrant, too.) …
“wab’’ of The 75-Member Staff with a wonderful find: The San Jose Mercury News – a great paper well worthy of respect – produced its “Wednesday’s Transactions’’ for “Aug. 6, 2009.’’ In agate print, all the sports transactions of the day are there. "

Two things:
1. You didn't click "Read the Full Story". There was more.
2. What did you think this meant:

Anyway, it doesn't matter.

1. Yes I did. I've been going to DB.com for quite a while, I know how it works
2. I had no idea what that meant, I was quite confused and figured I had probably missed something. I'm usually pretty confused though, so I didn't think much of it.

What a huge non-story. Look, I know we all have our gripes about Mr. Stern and his referees (AKA puppets, but that's a discussion for another day or thread), but he's not this awful. Not even he can fine someone for something that is years old. No way. The whole story was fish-y (haha, get it? get it?). There would be an absolute internet hellstorm if Stern actually did that. That's exactly the type of thing Yahoo would love to put on their front page ("Player fined for 3 year old violation").
I kinda wish it did happen, though. More evidence to add to our case against Stern.

You know what is the funniest thing about this whole ridiculous ordeal? That a $15K fine on Dirk would be threadworthy.

Who even cares if Dirk got fined? He's rich. It wouldn't matter anyway.
Now if he got suspended, that would be a different story.

It's not about him being fined, it's the principle of the matter that it came 3 years later.
(which turned out to be a media mistake)
