I realize this is a broken record and all the apple people hate me by now...but I feel like I'm getting a peek into another world, so I must ask questions.
So people really pay $180 for a 16fb solid state mp3 player these days? When you can buy a 16gb micro sd card for $40 bucks and either A. put it in your smart phone/media phone (assuming you don't have an iphone) or B. Buy a cheap solid state mp3 player that takes micro sd cards (I have one that cost me $25).
Just saying. I understand paying a lot for a full fledged portable media device. I'm a huge fan of Archos for those. But that's a hell of a lot of money for a simple device that can be replicated a number of ways.

Can't believe it took them this long to add FM Radio.

Yeah, I should have mentioned my $25 2GB solid state mp3 player that takes a micro sd card and is about four years old has FM radio.

So does Apple have the ability to "send" songs to your IPOD neighbors yet?

That's something I dislike about my iPhone. I could really, really use a radio at Stars/Mavs games on that thing.
As for everything else though...I can stream a multitude of stations on the iphone which at times is better than a FM radio. I was streaming the Ticket while laying sitting by the pool in las vegas last month.

Clearly you should buy a Nano for the FM functionality.

Won't Ralph and Razor be broadcasting on the Ticket this year.... (I already know the answer to that... but you said 97.5 which I didn't even know was a sports station).
edit: and to stay on topic - GO Zune! GO HTC Fuze!

97.5 is the "in arena" station at the AAC broadcast extremely locally, you noob.
And you're right...they will be on the ticket, but it will be greatly delayed through the online stream, and probably delayed on 1310 as well. Which may be useful if someone gets hurt or something happens and I want to tune in and find out, but not very enjoyable for watching the action and listening.

I would assume that the online stream will not carry the games at all. Online streams are certainly blacked out for the other sports.

iMovie just stopped autosaving (which insanely is the only option), then corrupted all video clips, then deleted my entire project.... a project I've spent 200+ hours on.

I feel like I need to go to confession...and I'm not Catholic.
I bought my wife an iPhone for Christmas.
*sigh*
I know, I know. But she really wanted one, she's on ATT, she was due for a subsidized phone, and she was fine with getting the 3G, which was only $100.
And really, it's a good product. There are better smart phones out there now, but it's a good product.
However, I do NOT understand how people deal with iTunes.

if you're already on AT&T, you have to get an iphone. It's a no-brainer.

I've got AT&T and my phone isn't an iphone... it's better. It was a no-brainer.

iTunes is wretched running on a windows platform and the iTunes music store should be abandoned ASAP for services like eMusic, and Amazon MP3 that offer the same music without DRM and often times they have higher bitrates as well as cheaper prices. eMusic has tons of indie music to satisfy my soul and with a subscription I get songs for like 0.43/song-- cheaper with albums that are longer than 12 songs and have a deal. Amazon sells most of their albums for 9 bucks, and half the time if you wait till they go on sale you can get them for $5
Still, I love my iPod and I use iTunes as my primary music application. I love Genius and I love how it synchs everything.

I don't use iTunes to get music. And if you don't, it's an awful application for managing music.
And even if I did, I like to take care of my library myself. I organize everything in folders, sorting how I see fit, not how the id3 tags label the song/album.
Beyond that, even if iTunes was perfect, I don't like being told how to manage/organize my device. I buy mp3 players (and eventually a phone for myself) that I organize how I want, with the software I want.

i had the same complaint from a coworker of mine, and i really didn't get it. But he was trying to organize operas, symphonies and stuff like that - maybe you're doing the same?
I rarely actually buy anything through iTunes (maybe a single like every 5 months - but i have unused iTunes gift cards for that). I use it to rip all my CDs, and I've never had an issue with organization or management. You have the ability to change any tag on an album or song when you rip it.
Erica, you can buy any mp3 you want outside of iTunes and it will be recognized by iTunes. Want to buy from eMusic? Amazon? Go ahead. Like i said, i don't buy off of iTunes, but they'll continue to make money based off of convenience.
U2, what phone do you have? I don't have an iphone, by the way. Only apple product i own is an iPod Video (4G, i think?). My phone is company-provided. In the past, I said if i got my own phone, it would probably be an iphone. But The Droid on Verizon is looking pretty damn nice.

No I'm just organizing music. But I prefer to use Windows to organize my stuff, seeing as how that's how everything else on my computer is organized. When I get a new album I decide what genre I consider it, or I may want to organize it even further than that. So I move it into a folder. I don't want to be limited to Artist, Album, Genre. There's no reason that iTunes couldn't give you the option of viewing your files in folders. I don't want to go through the effort of changing the Genre to what I want it to be. I just throw it in the folder I want and move on. And when I'm ready to listen to music or put it on my mp3 player I simply go to the folders I want and copy them.
Beyond that, I'm simply not interested in re-importing music into my iTunes library any time I get new music. It's just a useless extra step.

Well what do you know. I had no idea you could use other applications to sync to an iPhone. Low and behold, a little searching, and I'm now using Media Monkey (an app I already had installed for other reasons) to put stuff on my iPhone. And MediaMonkey, like any program worth a darn, will let you manage your media via id3 tags OR folders.
Options, what a novel concept.

hmmm, guess i just never realized it was such a big deal. If i want to change the genre, i just right-click->options for the album i'm ripping (or the files if they already exist on my PC) and change the genre for all tracks at once.
Also, custom groupings are what playlists are for. And adding to playlists is a simple drag and drop (and you can drag/drop multliple files at once)

Ok but here's the deal: As I said, I don't use iTunes or any other application for playing my media. So why would I want to use this extra interface to manage it on my device either? If other people want to use it, that's fine.
What frustrates me is the decision to not expose a stupid folder view where I can see my already organized folder structure and send media to the device that way. Thankfully Media Monkey does, so this is now a moot point.
I personally just don't get the appeal. To even get the media organized into playlists you have to deal with what is essentially a giant list of all your music, with sortable columns. That seems like a terrible way to process a large number of files. It's like moving yourself back to DOS. I realize you can switch it to a grid view of albums, but a lot of my music is not sorted into albums. I have tons of single tracks off of albums, so the album view is unbelievable cluttered.

Question: I won an itouch at my husband's company Christmas party last week. I have been wanting an iPhone for awhile now. It seems like the itouch is pretty much the iPhone minuses the phone. Am I correct in assuming this? If so it seems like it would be silly to get an iPhone now, right?
And btw, I completely understand the hype now. I haven't got a thing done since I won this dumb thing last week! I am so addicted to it!

I just got the 3gs after swearing the past couple years that I'd never get one. The deals were just too tempting right now, and the Windows phone I was replacing was pretty underwhelming.

yes, raef, touch is essentially the iphone without the phone. So what goes along with that is that you have to haev a wi-fi connection for any data connection.
i have been reading up on people using their i pod touches as IP phones using an app called Fring and their Skype accounts. Pretty cool!

Thig, yes, if you don't use iTunes to play your music, it would be a hassle. I do use iTunes to play my music, mostly because of its ability to sync with my iPod.
iTunes does have a way to bring up your list of songs with a sorted sublist above it (that sublist can be artist name, then album, then other criteria). You click on one artist name in that sublist, and it only shows you their tracks.
I'm not trying to convert you, i just hear that complaint about iTunes, and i've never had any issues.
And Erica, i absolutely agree with you on DRM. Like i said, i actually buy more physical CDs than digital (get better deals and i like having the disc - call me crazy).

Music (in MP3 format, which I've never ran across a song/album that wasn't) bought through Zune software doesn't have DRM protection. And I love the Zune software. I have never even installed itunes but from BBL's descriptions it sounds like they have similar ways to music management.
What you can do easily is add/remove/change the folders it looks for music, but I can't believe that itunes wouldn't do the same.
And BBL, I use an HTC Fuze. Best.Phone.Ever.(IMO, obviously)

From what I've seen..not really. Because it doesn't actively look for music in your folders. It's a one time import into iTunes. If you then want to remove those folders from iTunes, you have to find the actual media in iTunes and remove them.
And if you want to add new music, you have to re-import the folder again.
Now maybe I'm just new to iTunes and don't understand the best way to use it. But in my research I have found third party apps that are used to scan your specified music folders and update your iTunes library for any new or deleted files. If iTunes did that itself I doubt these apps would exist.

Huh.... that doesn't even seem logical for the software not to update the library when a new song/album is added. I have to plead ignorance here because I've never used it.

Do you use a belt clip? I hate 'em so I need a thinner phone like an iPhone because they never leave my pocket unless being used.

Have to be honest here - i really can't confirm or deny this. As i said, i just rip my CDs using iTunes, so of course they're moved right into iTunes when I rip it.
The few times i've gotten an mp3 elsewhere, i'm pretty sure it has been moved into iTunes with no issues. They're in there and i don't remember it being a difficult process.
U2, i have seen the HTC fuze. Looks like a sweet phone, but a little thick. My father-in-law has one though, and it has been super buggy. Even his replacement one is, although to a lesser degree. Maybe he just got 2 bad ones in a row.

The thick one is the slider, they have one that doesn't have the slide out keyboard that is thinner. Personally I don't mind the thickness. That is one truly awesome thing about the iPhone is how freaking thin it is. I do wear it on a belt clip, or in my coat pocket. I have had zero bugs. This phone is one of the options from my work, and it's the model that has the fewest problems for our users. So maybe we have just been real lucky.
