Okafor for expirings?
So says Fish. So how do we get in the mix?
Gooden + Williams + Barea works. They save $2MM (annualized) right off the bat by shipping out Okafor's $10.7MM and taking back only $8.5MM in return (the numbers do work, by about $15k). They can waive Gooden and save an additional $2MM or so this season. Plus, they are off the hook for the $50MM+ owed to Okafor, while the Mavs pick up our starting C for the next 5 years for the price of our backup PG, our backup C who isn't really a C, and an exile.
Donnie, you gotta make this phone call.

he would give us some of the rim protection/shot blocking we need along with some more athleticism at Center. adding more defensive minded, rebounding, hard working players is always a plus and it would give us some flexibility when it comes to the Dust Chip. if it's available we've got to pull the trigger

I think it's probably available in a general sense ... but Dallas is a division rival.

I think CP would demand a trade shortly after if they did this.

Bobcats did Okafor-Chandler as a cost move, the Mavs should have known during the summer that he is available and that time we had the buckshot etc.
Looks like we werent interested.
About the Kings rumour, its Kenny Thomas contract. But if we Hornets do that they really can Paul trade away too with 2 of their 3 sucking contracts. But it could be also Thomas+Hawes for Okafor. Hawes has some issues with the coach. But i doubt the Kings wanna hammer their contract with the next long overpaid contract...

When in Doubt - Play for the BIG payoff. If you are going to use the DUST chip, and NO wants to save BIG bucks, then CP3 and Okafor are the cost.
Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.
Due to New Orleans and Dallas being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. New Orleans and Dallas had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Trade ID #5284861

Erick Dampier
6-11 C from Mississippi State
7.6 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 27.0 minutes
Sign Voskul or another 15 min per game 5 and call it a chance to win it all.
CP3, Kidd, JHo, Marion, Dirk, Okafor, Terry. (Many combo's there).
Roddy, Ross, Humphries, TThomas, (Voskul), and mop up MC.
Eh just a thought, NO probably wouldn't do it anyway, but this would definitely save them some big bucks for NO, and add a marquee player with the Dust chip.

Can the Hornets really call Dallas a "division rival" if they have zero chance of competing in the west this year? And as for Paul being unhappy...well, keep in mind this is a franchise owned by George Shinn, an owner who cares about nothing but the bottom line. He'd probably welcome the opportunity to have nobody come to their games (as I recall, when this franchise was in Charlotte, it went from leading the league in attendance to a virtual fan boycott of the games due to the hatred for Shinn), so he could move the team out of New Orleans, get a fat payoff from some new city, and start the screw job all over again in yet another town.

We don't know what the asking price was back then. Tyson Chandler is arguably more than just expirings...if the price has dropped to pure junk, we can offer them plenty of that.

No way.
NO would find always someone to dump Okafor for expiring, the is still a defensive strong DD-player, just getting 3-4mio too much every year.
And the prize of Paul would be ALWAYS to take Posey + Peterson/Peja for expiring. Beside the talent they have to send for Paul...

Yeah we need to be all over this. We're screaming for more size and shot blocking down low. Not to mention that when we trade Damp we'll be even thinner at the 5 spot.
Hopefully we'll have the pieces to make something happen here.

Sac probably can offer more prospects, but if they're desperate, we need to jump in and offer picks and money.

Actually, Bobatundi's trade proposal financially is one of New Orleans best bets, if not THE BEST.
It might not be the best talent wise, but it's still pretty solid bench talent.
Cuban can throw in the cash for them to buy out Williams as well.

Okafor for Gooden/Barea/Williams would be a helluva trade and potentially make us a legitimate contender.

+1 , but will this affect our "sammy superstar" acquisition? I'm still kinda dreaming of CBosh.

If we acquire Okafor, I don't see room for Bosh; however, I do see packaging expiring Damp and S&T Josh for a top-notch startihng 2 in the offseason (even though it kills me to say this, having sat through the 2006 Finals in person--D-Wade, anyone?). Kidd, Wade, Marion, Dirk, Okafor = Ring.

i just don't think d-wade is going anywhere. if he is it's back home to Chicago. Gooden playing so well in back to back games makes it less likely, for now, we'd move him for Okafor who is overpaid. Gooden's a relative bargain. but obviously we'd all still prefer Okafor. he and Damp would make a nice Center duo. he's like what we'd hoped Gortat would become. personally i'd rather see us get an Okafor type to defend the Bynums,Gasols,Nenes,Dwight Howards of the world along with a true 2guard with size who can score like Joe Johnson than just Chris Bosh.

I'd call it a relative certainty that Damp's coming back this offseason after we trade him.
Not that I would snub my nose at Okafor, mind you. Just saying I don't think we'll be as thin as you're saying.

As much as I would love to have Wade com here, I agree.. mainly because that would just be too amazing, heh. But, if we somehow got a deal for Okafor, then using the DUST chip on a 2guard like Joe Johnson.. yeah that would still mean rings IMO.
We have got to start building our young core this next summer as everyone is getting old. We have our PG of the future (we all hope) in RoddyB.. Okafor will be around much longer. I would hope with the DUST chip we actually pick up a 3rd-6th year player on a crappy team that isnt working out. Let's hope that Brandon Roy has a huge fallout with the Blazers FO and they tank this year

I would've said yes a week ago. Now I'm not sure.
Gooden's looking good and JJB is still useful. Would be a long-term bet.

Gooden is making it tough to consider trading him but I'd still do this deal. Hopefully in this scenario they'd cut Gooden and he'd come right back.
