Gooden: Yuck. The guy is just braindead. Other than the tip at the end of the first quarter, I don't think he did a single thing right. He is the most turnover prone Maverick. And he is a huge reason why they aren't efficient as they used to be.
|
he played only 8 minutes, during which he took 3 shots and made 2, grabbed 3 boards, 2 on the offensive end, had one steal, committed only one foul, and zero turnover.
so i don't think the quoted statement is accurate/fair.

Marion limped noticeably at times and still gutted out a game like that.
Dirk and Kidd, what can you say, they're playing great right now!
And Damp definitely needs to stay here until offseason, I'm not sure whom I'd be willing to trade him for when he is in a shape like that. 17-7!

According to John Hollinger's preseason prediction, the Mavs will go 29-29 to finish the season.

well, he spent most of those 8 minutes with jjb (after his first 3 made shots), ross, jt, and the 1st-half dirk.

I wouldn't worry too much about it because if your first and second can't make shots any team is going to be in trouble. Tonight they couldn't but they still battled their ass off defensively, even jet was giving a good effort. THAT is what's different this year, last year they would have mailed it in.

We win, we lose.. as a jump shooting team, G.Wallace looks nice though wearing a Mavs uniform.

Did I miss something or wasn't roddy doing the same thing to start games as jj, except Roddy would actually play d?
And the offense sucks, no 2 ways about it, Josh or not. I'm sure he will help when he's fully back, but we've had too many games shooting in the crapper to just be cause a coincidence. If this was football, we'd have fired the offensive coordinator by now. Our sets are really repetitive and the bailout spots are not organized enough to take advantage of an unbalanced D.
Oh and Dirk is my hero and would have his babies.

Dirk is just a class act, again giving credit to his defenders, this time after he torched them with 36pts.
And the game recap alone contains enough footage to convince anyone who questions Dirk deserves some serious MVP consideration.

So I missed this game because studying for law school finals is kicking my ass, but... dirk goes 14-34, terry goes 4-19, josh doesn't play, and we win the game? Are you freakin' kidding me?! We wouldn't have had a prayer in this sort of game the last two seasons!
I'm really glad the Charlotte streak didn't snap tonight. I really enjoy having that distinction.

I don't think enough people (well outside of Dallas at least) give credit for Dirk's ball handling skills. Has there ever been a better ball handling 7 footer? The guy can make anything happen on the court when he has the ball in his hands.

You NEVER, NEVER EVER do that, giving credit to the other team's defenders, never ever. No great player ever did that or will ever do that. Dirk is soft and will never be a great player. ;-)

we for sure could use another scorer, whoever said that above. not sure TT or Gooden or Roddy or JJ can be that guy off the bench. love the way the season has unfolded so far but am concerned a little about Dirk and Kidd esp. playing so many minutes. still confused as to why the braintrust thought it best to spend our MLE on Gooden. he's been great in spurts like when Damp went down and we have the flexibility to deal him soon. just still feel like we dont have a true back-up pg and we could've gotten Sessions for reasonable $. he scores in bunches, gets to the rim and plays D.
Gooden was still a good signing but the FO may have outsmarted themselves on this one. Until Roddy's ready Kidd's gonna be logging alot of minutes. Sessions would've been less a bargain than Gooden but he would also have been pretty easy to dump in a trade if necessary and would have filled two needs- bench scorer, back-up point.

I must say, after going to a Heat game this past week, I have enough knowledge about the two cities from a basketball point of view to make this judgement.
Dallas is a freaking great basketball town. The fans at the games are always into it, the team doesn't disappoint, the town appreciates Dirk's greatness, and the stadium is always pretty full. This can't be said for the team down here in Miami.

Dirk has a level of class that Barkley and all those fools can't even imagine.

It doesn't matter what Dirk says. It matters what he does on the court. He was able to hit his shots despite great defense. No secret that that thin, long athletic players give Dirk problems. And its no secret that is good defense despite a lot of arrogant players saying they can't be defended.

I do not think so and if it were not for holger, he wouldn't have this skill either. He'd be sitting on the block getting bulky and being a mid-level big.
I'm not sure enough people give handles the credit they deserve (I know I haven't until recently). Watching hump/bass for example is startling. Bass has NO handles and hump has some pretty good ones, allowing him to get the ball at the ft-line extened and still take it to the hole.
If I were Howards (and Jets) coach I would ask holger how to improve their handles, it would be a tremendous benefit to their games.

I agree that ball handling is an underrated skill. Michael Finley would have been a completely different player if he'd been able to handle the ball in traffic.
