You know what's weird? I almost can't remember what it was like to have Lost threads without Flaco. He drives this whole thing. And he was pretty late to the party.
I think we had more people posting about Lost back then. I know I was way more obsessed than I currently am.
Bravo Flaco, keep driving.
My wife has somewhere to be tonight and I was just informed that I am not to watch until she gets home.
*sigh*

I told my wife I didn't want my Stars tickets to go to waste tonight and she kindly informed me that she's watching LOST, she doesn't give a crap what I'm doing tonight.
And that's why I love her.
The trick for me is getting the baby to sleep as soon as I get home tonight so I can watch it on the DVR. At least I won't have to deal with commercials.

And I hope that this is the last 18 hours of Lost is enough to energize everyone a little bit for the final season.
BTW, read this: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,2031...340777,00.html
That guy has what I think is the proper attitude toward the end of it all. Just sit back and let them tell the story they want to, don't hope for what you want it to be or what you've thought all this time it should be. This doesn't really apply to you all, but to a lot of those folks out there who are really and truly obsessed with it.

observations:
1. this seems a lot like a "sliding doors" (the gwyneth paltrow movie) theme. two realities going on at once.
2. so we know who the smoke monster is. kinda.
3. and lock is gone. but terry o'quinn isnt.
4. and i'm not sure what i think about the dudes from the temple. i think they may be the guys that arrived on the island on the "black rock."
5. what i do know is that there are a crapload of confusing subplots going on.
6. great to have boone back...for sikes sake.

I'm just ducking in here, very blindly w/o reading anything, to say I am about to start watching it. I think my daughter is down for the night and the Minnesota Wild were slain at the AAC by the Stars.
So far so good....

I was thinking.... if SM is Esau.... then that would kind of prove that they had this mapped out from the get-go. Jacob=Jack Esau=Sawyer

Well...
well. Uhh....
That was like...it was like a big, juicy steak that Darlton have been seasoning and making just right for the last 8 months. Better yet a meal. And it was so juicy and fulfilling that I could barely finish it.
First: Hats off to Josh Holloway. He took me there. That was some pretty gut wrenching stuff. Speaking of Sawyer....what a dark place he is in. Is he going to run off and be seduced by Flocke? Yeah. I think so.
Next up: Desmond disappeared off the plane. In the true spirit of Desmond, they're going to do more with less of him again. Watch for it.
The bomb: Did it explode? On a show like this, with reality being so incredibly suspended, yeah I guess it did. But it sent them forward in time in the process. "The last time I heard of this much concrete being poured over anything was chernobyl" <--- It was there since season 2. Sayid freaking called it, right? The last episode was called "The Incident." It was easier than we made it. Whatever Happened, Happened. Etc.
The ash...the effing ash was to keep smokey IN.
Jacob committed suicide. He was no more murdered than Albus Dumbledore was. He totally meant to die, and gave that little speech to Ben, who has become a pawn, to make it happen.
It was a giant Ankh in the guitar case? With a hidden message inside? Pretty sure no one guessed that. It seems Jacob made one final list before he died, and the O6 were on it.
So is the line as clearly drawn in the sand as it seems right now? Is this really coming down to a good versus evil, Team MIB vs Team Jacob FTW party? Is that what it's always been about? Feuding Gods? I think we have enough information, but it's hard to say.
----------------------------------------------------
And finally the meat of the discussion: (or so I predict) The ALT timeline.
The ALT timeline is the flashback/flashforward narrative device of the season.
It will take on any of the following 3 forms:
1. It is strictly a "what if" look at what would have happened if the bomb had done what Jack thought it would. (What did Miles mean "It Worked"???). Personally, if they waste 30% of every episode with a "what if" that has no bearing on the bulk of the action, then I will be supremely disappointed.
2. It is an alternate reality/universe that will somehow throughout the course of the season come to impact things in the primary time line. Use your imagination.
3. It is the end game. It is, in essence, a flash forward. At the end of the series, they will in fact change things so the plane lands, and they're showing us the (not-so) happily ever after ahead of time.
Personally I hope it's option #2.
People are going to dwell on the underwater island. Which had barracks on it and a broken statue, meaning it...err..."sunk" after the barracks were built. I think it's existence lends itself to options 1 and 2 above. I'm prepared to not dwell on it unless we get more info.
--------
There are 23 other discussion points, but I need to sleep. Can't wait to watch it again.

I'm going to say Jacob is now inhabiting Sayid in the same way MiB is inhabiting Locke.

I am in general down with this theory, but my only question is why Jacob would have asked Sayid to go get saved by the spring if he was only going to reanimate his dead body? The only reasonable explanation I can come up with is that he wanted it to occur within the confines of the ash to as to be safe from Smoky, but that doesn't seem like enough of a reason.

Ok, I wanted to post these thoughts before looking at any previous comments...
#1 Why can't smoky get off the island to get back "home" but Jacob seems to be able to get off whenever he wants to "touch some kids"?
#2 Thought bringing back that whip character Juliette was lame just to give Sawyer a reason to be mad for a while. Seems useless to give the characters such flimsy "closure".
#3 Pretty much already board with the #2 storyline...except for how Jack's neck got cut and what the heck happening with Christian Shepherd's body? Loved seeing the island underwater...very, very cool.
#4 Am I nuts in thinking there is NO WAY they don't somehow dovetail the two story lines by the end of the season? (which could be major shark jumpage). The only way I can see the 2 story line scenario working out is if they actually let it ride...and for an entire season show us what their lives would have been like if 815 never goes down. While trite on a global scale, it could interesting. (I just doubt thats what they're doing)
#5 It was bittersweet finding out fake Locke is smoky...not sure they revealed it in the coolest way.
#6 Not entirely pumped about the introduction of some new Others...feels like reaching for story.
#7 I love Richard and Ben.
#8 When Sayid woke up did everyone else join me is saying, "Hello Jacob"?

So in the past, the "wall" has kind of been smokey's hangout. So are we now to believe that the only reason he has been there is to try to get to the temple's inhabitants?

thats what I was thinking...is it a grass is greener type thing? He stays around there because he cant get where he wants to get? It HAS to be more interesting than that.
On smoky: That character at this point is being painted as ALL bad...but what about the times when it didn't seem to do only pure bad (Ala letting echo live, being funneled to attack only certain people when Ben "summoned" it, Locke seeing something "beautiful", etc)? I think/hope there is more to him than just a generic 100% evil villain.
That red firework got Richard scared, didn't?

this can't be true...we've seen smoky SO many times. Unless we're saying that the ash had been disturbed up before the series even began.
Maybe something having to do with Christian Shepherd's body?

Yeah cause smoky was out and about on the island long before we ever saw the ash disturbed. Or maybe it had been disturbed the whole time we just didn't know it? Maybe that house was where Jacob would go to get some alone time away from smoky.

It just donned on me that they ash wasn't even spread around the temple until the Others (who are really just Jacobites) were told Jacob was dead and Sayid died.
So perhaps just the threat of Jacob kept smoky out of the temple??

Right - they knew that as soon as Jacob was gone, Esau would attack the temple.
How about this... Maybe Jacob and Esau can BOTH change form to smokies...

See I wonder this also... but is it only NOW that he can do this? Since his Jacob body is dead? That is assuming that Sayidcob is now equivalent to Esauck. (working on those new titles... so bear with me... maybe Jaysay and Louck? Lousau? scratch that last one)

1. I am working on the assumption that perhaps Esau's body is dead and he only lives as a smoke monster or a copy of someone else but can't leave the island since his death. Perhaps Jacob hadn't "died" yet so he could leave the island at will? Last night I felt like they were setting it up to be a Locke/Jack replacing Jacob/Esau. I wish they would give his name up already.
2. I liked it. It made for good drama.
3. gagree. surely if they continue this it will get better.
4. It has to have a purpose, I think, to tell the story.
5. I don't know how it could have been cooler... maybe showing him transform? I didn't have a problem with it.
6. But they aren't new. They are the ones that took the children from the tail section, right? Cindy is with them, she was never an other was she? Well she was on the other island when Jack/Kate/Sawyer were in captivity.... they need to explain that group better. I assumed this was Richards group, not THE Others.
7. I really would like to know Richards story. Is he a 3rd wheel to Jacob/Esau?
8. of course

I mentioned that to a bud last night...but that just seems wrong. Remember the tapestry in the statue? There was a god we assume is Jacob and a "smoky" looking spirit as well.
that seems to be the two of them...

Yes, they took the children (they forced us to get that much)...I really like the idea that they are not Others...I hope so...they certain are in DEEPER than Ben's group it would seem. And they are Jacobites.

I totally disagree with you sike, about Juliet. I mean...I have thought she was a whip character for the vast majority of her run, but I thought that was pretty gut wrenching stuff and gave Josh Holloway a real chance to do his thing.
Plus, as I said before, I think they're propelling Sawyer into some really, really dark stuff and they needed to drive that point home. So Juliet dies (again-ish) and we all got to see some awesome Sawyer venom toward Jack that's important going forward. I don't think it was useless.

here is why you are dead (ha) wrong. The Sawyer venom was there as soon as they woke up and saw that it apparently hadn't worked. (he did kick him down a hill and beat him senseless).
and I'm sorry for being such a heartless son of gun...but I just didn't care nearly enough about Juliyer or Sawyeret for that scene to even slightly touch me. Good acting? Sure. Needed for story? Not at all. Needed to appease women and the womanly men (double ha)? Indeed.
All the darkness that we love from Sawyer could have been obtained just by waking up and realizing that Jack's incredible miscalculation just killed the love of his life.

But what about the times when we hear them and its only Ben's people in the forest?
Also, we're assume that the group is actually "Richard's" and not just a special branch that stay at the temple.
