GDT: Dallas Mavericks (31-19) @ Golden State Warriors (13-36) 2/8/10 9:30 CST
Time to stop this losing streak. We need a win. Career 75% winning percentage in GDT's (3-1) so we'll see what that will bring us.
Oh, and I'm expecting Roddy to score 50. Not really, but how can you not love watching the kid. He's shooting 50% from the floor and 42% from 3 point land. As a rookie. Awesome.

The Dallas Mavericks’ only victory in their last five games came against Golden State. It’s been a little more than two weeks since the Warriors were victorious.
Looking to bounce back from a loss to the last-place team in the Western Conference, the visiting Mavericks try to extend the Warriors’ season high losing streak to nine games Monday night when the teams meet for the second time in six days.
Despite a career-high 46 points from Golden State’s Monta Ellis(notes), Dallas (31-19) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 110-101 home win over the Warriors on Wednesday. Two nights later, however, the Southwest Division-leading Mavericks lost 117-108 at home to Minnesota - the club tied with Golden State (13-36) for the fewest wins in the West - for their fourth defeat in five games.
Dallas has allowed opponents to shoot 52.0 percent and average 109.6 points during that slump.
“We need to dig down and find some pride,” Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. “It’s as simple as that. We’re not going to be good until we play hard.”
The Mavericks will likely need a complete effort at Golden State. The Warriors (13-36), who last dropped nine in a row from Nov. 21-Dec. 6, 2008, haven’t won since beating New Jersey 111-79 on Jan. 22, but have taken five of their last six home meetings with Dallas including the last two.
Stopping Ellis is something the Mavericks have been unable to do of late. After scoring 37 points in Golden State’s 111-103 win at Dallas on Nov. 24, the fifth-year pro went 17 of 23 from the field during his career night Wednesday. He’s averaging 33.5 points on 53.1 percent shooting in his last four games against the Mavericks.
“That was a remarkable performance by Monta,” Golden State coach Don Nelson said after Wednesday’s loss. “He didn’t have a great supporting cast. But he fought and kept us in the game.”
Corey Maggette(notes) (20 points) and C.J. Watson(notes) (14) were the only other players in double figures for the Warriors, who shot 49.4 percent but committed 20 turnovers and allowed the Mavericks to make 54.4 percent of their shots.
Jason Terry(notes) scored 21 points and All-Star Dirk Nowitzki(notes) added 20 for Dallas in that contest. In the rematch, Nowitzki will try to put an embarrassing turn of events behind him.
Nowitzki did not start Friday against Minnesota after he was late for the Mavericks’ pregame shootaround. He finished with 21 points and eight rebounds in his first appearance off the bench since December 2009, but felt he let down his teammates.
“I was almost 30 minutes late,” Nowitzki said. “That was a distraction and it’s my fault.”
Golden State looks to avoid a fourth consecutive home loss after falling 104-95 to Oklahoma City on Saturday. While Ellis was held to 15 points, Maggette had 24 and Stephen Curry(notes) added 23 as the Warriors fell to 0-12 when failing to score 100 points.
Maggette is averaging 25.2 points in his last 26 games.

We win tonight, lose tomorrow, I'm fine with that. Just make it to the all-star break at this point.

I wonder why Dirk was late the other day, anyone know the reason?
Tim Thomas. I like what he does on the court but WTF is the deal, why is he never available??

I went on a bit of a Mavericks fast after the loss to the 'wolves. Tonight I'm going to be at the game, ready to resume a feast of Mavs fandom in enemy territory. So what I'm trying to say is, can those of you who are calling this one a loss please STFU and go to a different thread? Negative energy doesn't belong in the GDT.
Go Mavs!!

I could go for a nice long win streak right about now. Take firm control of the division. The Southwest has been crap recently and it sucks that Mavs couldn't take advantage. But let's start now.
Go Mavs!!!

Not that this is the answer to what ails the Mavs, but does anybody know what the hell is going on with Tim Thomas right now? I've never heard of so many absences for "personal reasons". Have the Mavs exiled him like they did Shawne Williams?

I disagree, I think Sean Marion has been playing hard, Dirk gives it night in and night out, and Kidd has been Kidd. Josh Howard is really whats making the whole team look so disinterested. I really think his attitude and trade status is really hurting our overall effort on both ends of the court.

But we're going to win this. We always beast when we're not supposed to. Hello, Lakers on the road, 2nd game of the season. Hello Cleveland, minus Dirk. Hello Boston on the road on TNT just the other day. Hell yeah! Let's go kick some ass!

Too bad he can't hit a jump shot. Josh Howard as well. Beaubois seems to have the full package. Jump shot, driving ability, and defense.

never said anything contrary to what you just stated. You are correct, Marion's offensive abilities are pretty much limited to slashing/finishing on the fast break. Josh Howard, on the other hand, is not a terrible shooter WHEN he uses his shot as a second option. And he should just completely remove that step back jumper. When Josh Howard is driving/finishing 75% of the time, teams have to respect his drive, giving him room to shoot, allowing him to shoot more open jumpers, leading to a higher shooting percentage. The way Josh has played this year and last year (excluding the playoffs) does not lead me to believe that he will return to doing that, so i'm not optimistic.
Roddy, as you stated, does have the full package. However, he lacks the maturity that will only develop with time and Kidd's mentoring. I don't think theres virtually any way he can be depended upon late in the season for more than 15-20 min. I hope he proves me wrong, and I've been extremely pleased with what I've seen from him, but he's a rook who hasn't gotten a lot of burn to this point. He's still got very little actual game time under his belt. Although the potential/talent is definitely there, I think it'll be next season before he really starts to come into his own.

And ironically it was the time when Hitman put up that thread about Dirk.
Way to put the jinx on him, Hitman.

I just don't get why they continually go away from Dirk on offense. It is no surprise why the Mavs struggle on offense so much... it is simple: Quit going away from your best player on offense.
