Does anybody have an Android phone?
On the 20th Google announced it's new OS update codenamed froyo (frozen yogurt) for android . One of the key features would be the enabling of flash player 10.1 beta so users could get the full Flash experience on the browser.
Anyways, I was able to get my hands on the manual update for my Nexus One android phone and I have been able to stream live NBA games and am watching the Suns vs. Lakers game right now. Theoretically I can never miss a game now!
Just thought I would share.

Guess we can use this thread for android talk.
So T-mobile and Radio shack are having a promotion on Saturday the 19th where if you sign up for a new two year contract you get any T-mobile phone for free.
I think the two promotions are a little different from each other... but here's the readup:
Radio Shack says its T-Mobile phones are free; no family plan required
I would recommend the T-mobile mytouch 3g Slide if you're looking for a new phone. I played with it a little bit and it's nice.
Another cool thing that was released for ALL android users today is Swype. It's a really interesting way to type and so far it's worked for me.
You can get that beta HERE

Hah, I forget it's from Germany. T-mobile in the USA has good coverage/prices here in the USA (Well, the coverage where I live is pretty good anyway, I don't travel much). I do have a G1 that just had a bulging near exploding battery (don't overcharge your phone!) but I got a new one that has been quite good. I haven't really rooted anything.
A friend of mine went through pretty much every ROM possible. I think he stumbled upon an Éclair build (2.1) which he has stuck with and I gotta say it runs pretty well. He does overclock it though. Anxiously awaiting the release of the Samsung Galaxy S (And if Samsung doesn't follow through with their very public promise to give that phone FroYo I will bomb their HQ....... don't pull a Behold II on us, or we'll be very, very angry).

Here's what I got from a rep:
Quote:
On June 19th, 2010. some of our stores will be offering any model of phone free when the phone is activated as a new line of service with a two year contract. I would suggest contacting your local T-Mobile store to see if they will be participating in this promotion.
The promotion is for new customers who are just starting service or current customers who are looking to add a new line of service (adding an additional number) to their account.
|
I think Radio Shack is offering the same promotion, but you wouldn't need to sign up for a family plan, it can be any contract. Again it's at participating stores so you might want to call ahead.

Me and the wife will be joining the Android family soon with an Evo and a Hero. I got a great deal on Wirefly.com using Bing, but it took forever to ship. I ordered on June 4th, and it just shipped yesterday. At launch, they had the Evo for $170, and I recently added the Hero, which is now $20. I used Bing cashback on both phones, so I'll be getting $100 back from Microsoft. It's a lot better than going to the Sprint store and paying $280.

I've had my EVO for a couple of weeks now. I'm 100% on board with the Android OS now. I LOVE being able to customize things again. Sprint has been great for me so far as well. Just, really, couldn't be more happy with my decision to switch.

If you have sprint service and don't mind renewing your contract for 2 more years, take a look at this thread on slickdeals. I followed the steps in the wiki and just got a confirmation email that I'd be getting 25% off everything but insurance and the $10 charge. So 25% off my everything plan.
My bill is going to be so much cheaper than it was with AT&T.

Just wait until you get Froyo. It's so freaking smooth and fast. And "flashy".

Yeah it sounds tempting to go ahead and flash one of the froyo ROMs that's out there right now, but I'm waiting until they can get one working while retaining camera functionality. If they don't, I'm fine just waiting until Sprint pushes it down to me.

Typing to you directly from the samsung vibrant and I got to say that this swype keyboard is pretty sweet. I don't even know how it guesses some of these words. The phone is blazingly fast. The camera is amazing too at five megapixels and 720p @ 30fps, though I've not had that many opportunities to use it. Hopefully the people at xda will be able to install custom ROMs soon (they've already rooted it) so that everyone gets to use this awesome hardware.

hahaha... SHOW OFF!! The "swipe" keyboard is dumb. The phone is TOO big and the water ripple thing you have for your background is lame.
My old Iphone 3 kicks this Samsung Vibrant in the ass. Who names a phone Vibrant anyway?

Well I finally switched and got an Android phone. (Samsung Infuse 4G).
I am so in love with this device. It is amazing. And I never have to use iTunes again. Good riddance.

Well my Galaxy S died a couple of weeks ago while *cough*transferring music*cough* and I went ahead and treated myself to a Sensation 4G.
Screen is not as nice as the Galaxy S (of which the Infuse is a variant) as it isn't a superamoled, but the extra resolution is nice, especially on a 4.3" screen. Download speeds are Sensational (no pun intended), and the latest update really makes this phone quite fast.
Now this only needs cyanogen...
Also, enjoy DLNA (to PC, To Boxee Box, etc), that is pretty awesome. And easy.
As a side note.... I know a lot of people find it annoying... but I find it hilarious.

I was going to wait for the Galaxy S II, or whatever At&t's versions was going to be...but then I found out that it's going to have a slider keyboard, whereas the Canadian and European versions do not. What a useless, undesirable addition. Way to go, AT&T.
So I just got the infuse instead.
I wish I had a DLNA tv. Someday...

The international Galaxy S II works with AT&T's network (including 3G). Unsubsided price for that is through the roof though. As for the DLNA: If you wanna just give it a try, fire up WMP11 and Under "Stream" and tick "Allow Remote Control of My Player." It's pretty cool *adjusts duct tape holding eyeglass together*

Has anyone seen the new phone/tablet Samsung just announced?
http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/01/s...pecs-ifa-2011/
Basically, it's a 5.3" phone/tablet with 2.3.5. While it is 720p, it has a stylus.... it is completely overkill. I want it. I don't know if it'll fit in my pockets, but I want it. Granted, I probably won't buy one, but what about you guys? 5.3" smartphone?

5.3 is... too much.
Although, after carrying this ridiculous 4.5 inch screen with me for three weeks, I held an iPhone in my hands tonight...and I seriously giggled at it's inadequacy.

My old Droid 1 is quickly dying, somebody sell me on a new smartphone (Verizon) - I have no clue which ones are the best these days, wasn't planning on buying one yet.
I have no brand preference or price limit, just want to get something that doesn't make me want to kick puppies when I use it....

Mainly because I want to develop more in the mobile space, and I haven't really enjoyed working in the Android/Java space.
I'm mainly a Microsoft developer and the WP7 framework fits perfectly with what I do most.
I'm also a believer in what Microsoft is trying to do with Windows8 and Metro, and that dovetails with Windows Phone 7.

I'm still not sure that I'm willing to give up the kind of freedom that Android gives you, but I'm considering it.

I have the Iphone4 with Verizon. Some things are annoying, but some things are also pretty great. Facetime calls make me feel like I'm in the movie Aliens. I figured you probably know plenty about this phone though. Just ask if you need more info on it.
OH the cases for the Iphone might just sell you. I have my beautiful Mavs Champs silicon case.

Samsung infuse or Motorola Atrix? They both will cost me 100. Will I be upset that I didn't wait for October phones, or will I be happy to get one of these for so cheap? Opinions? I'm happy to have my IPad as my IOS device, and don't want the new IPhone.

I, personally, do not recommend getting a six month old phone on a two year contract. The phone market is so dynamic that even a brand new, bleeding edge phone feels a bit like an antique in two years, which is how long the vast majority of people keep their phones. Getting an older phone on the cheap just increases that feeling.

I know you're right. My 3gs feels so ancient now, and I'm itching to replace it, but that's how I got into this predicament in the first place. Probably best to wait.

Is it worth purchasing?
