Chris Paul open to trade to Contender.
Chris Paul is open to being traded to a contender. ( http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5317801)
New Orleans needs to cut costs badly with a new low budget owner coming in, and while it is unlikely they trade Paul (especially within conference, let alone division), here is our best offer and chance to land a superstar this off-season.
New Orleans In:
Damp (instant expiring)
Butler (talented vet, expiring contract)
D.Stevenson (expiring)
Beaubois (young talent)
Future draft pick(s)
Dallas In:
Paul
Okafor
Posey
Why for New Orleans:
They shave almost $20 million off the books immediately (no other team can offer this kind of deal) and acquire an additional $15 million worth of expiring contracts in quality veterans (Butler,Stevenson). They get off the hook for Okafor's ridiculous contract and Paul's longterm contract as well as Posey's pricey overpaid contract. They also get a young talent back in Robo to pair up with Collison in the backcourt.
Why for Dallas:
We finally go all in and get our superstar to pair with Dirk. We have to take on some really bad contracts, but we round out our roster at the same time to make a push for a championship. Our center rotation would be one of the best defensive pair in the league and can you imagine a Paul / Kidd PG rotation? We'd have free agents begging to come to Dallas for that reason alone.
Potential Dallas Lineup:
Haywood / Okafor / Damp (vet min?)
Dirk / Okafor / Najera
Marion / Posey / Najera
M.Miller?/ Posey / Terry
Paul / Kidd / Barea

So would I but it's not going to happen. Too many teams are willing to give up a lot of talent for Paul, and honestly he is worth it and much more.
Many other teams have us beat on young talent / picks / and situation (i.e. not in the same division!) but we have everyone else beat on money savings and if we include some young talent in as well as a 1st rounder if we can get one before the draft with the trade exception then we have a very very competitive offer.

Paul would be a MUCH better consolation prize than Joe Johnson if/when we miss out on LeBron & Wade...

Wade isn't happening, he's already recruiting for Miami.
Our chances at Paul are probably only slightly better than our chance at Lebron.

Why does it matter what Paul is open to? He's under contract and has no say in things. What matters is whether NO is open to trading Paul to a contender.

I dont think NO wants that much talent back for Paul considering if they trade him it would be b/c they are strapped for cash....they are in money saving mode if they dont sell the team to the new owners...
With that being said, Donnie would be an idiot to not at least try to offer them cap relief using the DUST and any other players that can give them either instant or soon to be expiring contracts.

And if Orlando trades Vince Carter and Jameer Nelson to NO for Paul then NO would have to pay Vince and Jameer alot more than they are paying Paul now....no savings there Mr. Shinn

The thing with that is I'm hearing Orlando has a huge $6+ million trade exception that they could use in a second "separate" trade as well. The best they could do is create something like a $9 million instant savings for New Orleans and around $30million in two years.
With our deal we could offer $17-18 million in instant expiring and $33 million total by the end of this season. Still, Orlando is in the East which gives them some advantage, but I'd hate to be the GM that paired Chris Paul with Dwight Howard.

Brilliant Trade!!!!!! Good for both teams..........NO saves an amazing $17 mill or so first year, then Caron and Stephenson expire they save more!!!!!!!They also get Roddy buckets and have a darn good PG rotation with Collison/Beaubois. Of Course Butler and Stephenson will be valuable for NO at the trade deadline. We're still weak at 2 guard, but could sign someone with the mid-level..........

Thanks!
You're right that we'll be weak at the 2 position (I haven't seen much of Posey this past season), but here are some free agent SG's we could realistically chase with the MLE:
Ray Allen
John Salmons
Ronnie Brewer (restricted)
JJ Redick (restricted)
Matt Barnes
Mike Miller
Anthony Morrow (restricted)
Roger Mason
Randy Foye (restricted)
Wesley Matthews (restricted)
Tony Allen

Salmons and Mathews will go for more than the MLE and either way Mathews will be resigned

Salmons is 30 so it may come down to a matter of contract length. Yeah it's possible he goes for more than the MLE but I think he's going to try to get that last long contract, like many FA's trying to beat the new CBA. The MLE will give us a shot.
edit: Matt Barnes clone eliminated.

I would hate to trade Roddy B to a division rival...but if we got Chris Paul, I would do it faster than a hollywood marriage

i remember hearing something about his surgery last year about him getting a procedure done that would get him back faster, but was not as effective in the long run. anyone else read that? a half-assed knee surgery is not something i would want my PG to have.

he had the meniscus removed rather than repaired which enabled him to come back for a non-existent playoff push. strange choice. i too would be worried about giving up Damp/Roddy/Butler and the 1st rd. pick we're about to buy for a guy who may may have lingering knee issues. it's alot to give up

The Allens ? No way. But Posey could suit us very well. He had an impact on the Celtics Championships.

Many people around the NBA and those close to Chris Paul believe the Hornets are now open to trading him.
Paul is open to playing in New York or with the Nets, according to sources. Paul was furious when his name was mentioned in Memphis trade rumors.
The Blazers have long been one of Paul's most adamant pursuers and have 'bordered on tampering' with the point guard, according to Wojnarowski's report.
William Wesley and Maverick Carter have been involved in Paul's affairs as well and the former has attempted to shop Paul to other teams.
George Shinn issued a statement on Wednesday that did not include an assurance that Paul won't be traded.
GM Jeff Bower isn't shopping Paul, but he isn't rejecting proposals flatly as he was a few months ago.

Yeah, you have a point. I mean what are we thinking?!
Why go after the best PG in the league when we have JJ freaking Barea riding the motherloven pine.

Now that Miami has created enuff cap room to sign 3 max players in addition to Wade recruiting....Lebron coming to Dallas is slim to none
CP3 is at the top of my wish list with Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson being second
1. Lebron (not happening)
2. Wade (also not happening)
3. CP3
4. Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson
5. Bosh (slim to none)
But LBJ, Wade, or CP3 are the only players I would give Roddy up for.
And since NO is trying to save money, the Mavs braintrust would be the most idiotic front office in the league if they did'nt try everything in their power to make this happen since he is clearly one the best, if not THE best PG in the league. Miami wants max contract and cleveland also has money for max contracts but we clearly have what NO needs, which is cap relief with expiring and soon to be expiring contracts

I don't see how Miami's financial standing affects LeBron whatsoever - now they can sign two guys who aren't him instead of just one...
(LeBron isn't playing in Wade's shadow...)

I agree Lebron wont be going to Miami
I was just saying that Miami has room for 3 max players so the Mavs wont be getting anything from them so they should pursue CP3 by all means
Cleveland is also not a willing trading partner for the Mavs which only leave 1 great player left in CP3
I was only stating the obvious with the other teams to show that although NO is a division rival, they are our best trading partner at this point

Nah I would take Paul over Rondo....Rondo is nice dont get me wrong but CP3 is disgustingly awesome!
As a matter of fact, I would take Paul, then D Will, then maybe Rondo

Nope, not buying that one bit. Rondo is a great player in a great situation, no doubt about it but Paul wins the comparison test every time.

1) Paul > Rondo
2) Chris Paul is actually available.
3) I'm going to reach through the internet and choke you if you ever use the word "fadge" again...
